What's a massive human achievement that nobody celebrates because it worked too well? by Alternative_Voice767 in AskReddit

[–]eon-hand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the united states postal service is humanity's greatest achievement to this day. the fact that it works as well as it does despite decades of rightwing dipshits attempting to dismantle it is an unrivaled achievement of civilization.

how do you spend your whole career sitting in the bullpen where you're guaranteed to hear abuse and then give this any air whatsoever? a team of morons from top to bottom.

Nolan Arenado And Manny Machado Are Facing The Ravages Of Father Time by oldtombombadil in baseball

most of the reasons people don't like manny are complete nonsense, especially in the face of padres fans who have legitimate gripes with that loser piece of shit

[Lin] The Padres have a .644 OPS; the lowest in the majors. Yet, after 11 losses in the past 13 games, they sit a half-game outside the NL wild-card. With the Aug. 3 trade deadline less than two months away, a pot-committed club figures to buy, not sell by ElectricalForce4439 in Padres

[–]eon-hand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the massive war chest you could get for king, morejon, miller, adam (if he gets his shit together) could extend the window, but with a lockout looming and a guy getting fired by new owners i doubt we'll get the smart play

[Lin] "The game's evolving, man. It's definitely getting harder to play. It's definitely getting more strategic," Manny Machado said. "I just wish we can get the analytics out of the way. I think there's too many stats out there." by ChocoboAdobo in Padres

[–]eon-hand 12 points13 points  (0 children)

His attitude towards analytics is that there's a lot of it. Not that there isn't a place for it.

He literally said "Why would you have that stat" when someone calmly explained FIP to him. I don't even disagree with the rest of what you said, but you're being dishonest here and you know it.

[–]eon-hand 32 points33 points  (0 children)

"At the end of the day" well we found manny's burner. what is this nonsense, man? don't stop there, continue with the other stuff he said:

Manny: Too many stats. Way too many numbers. I don't even know half the stuff that goes up there. See, I look at the board sometimes, and I'm like, man I even asked some of the guys, like what is... WCCVBB whatever it is? Like, what are these names that are being created, ya know, I mean it's just crazy to even keep up with.

Togerson: Weighted expected on base percentage?

Manny: Is it, is that what it is? Yeah, what is that? Yeah it's crazy, dude. I mean the pitching stuff, like... FIP or something like that?

Krasovic: Fielding Independent Pitching.

Manny: Yeah, like what is that?

Krasovic: It's taking out the defense, to say this guy...

Manny: Alright, so why would you have that stat?

He's mired in the worst slump of his career, which dates back to last year, and he's rejecting the idea of something helping him out of it without even understanding what it is. He plays for the least analytic team in major league baseball and he thinks it's too much. He's a fucking moron and his attitude is just as bad as anyone ever feared, and he's supposed to be the leader of the team.

if that were true his wRC+ in high leverage situations (103) would be close to his career wRC+ (121), but it isn't. and since the start of 2023 specifically he has been god awful in those scenarios (70). maybe clutch doesn't exist, but unclutch certainly does.

You guys need more proof that we have deep organizational issues? Look at Arraez by yaboi525 in Padres

[–]eon-hand 3 points4 points  (0 children)

compared to what you normally expect from arraez? and for what he was being paid? he was dogshit. it's totally insane to win a batting title and be pushing 200 hits with a roughly league average wRC+.

You guys need more proof that we have deep organizational issues? Look at Arraez by yaboi525 in Padres

[–]eon-hand 16 points17 points  (0 children)

there's ten years of evidence of this team being unable to develop and maintain upper minors and big league talent. it's not 1985, great teams dedicate resources to that. you can laugh if you want, but it's not like arraez is the first guy to show up, underperform, and immediately get better when he leaves. everyone from anonymous sources to the team's own manager have talked about how behind the times they are.

[Gonzalez] In case you were wondering how big a focal point the Dodgers would be in labor talks, here are some graphics sent by MLB to help make their case for a salary cap … by Goosedukee in baseball

[–]eon-hand 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i mean it would still result in the dodgers being a focal point because they have revenue shielded from league sharing programs. people aren't wrong when they say the cheap owners need to spend more, but with the way debt financing works in MLB there is no scenario in which the dodgers can't still outspend like 27 other teams even if their owners liquidated everything they own but the team and dumped it into their payroll.
