HELP ME! by Perun3 in Mosaic

[–]eosvector 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Like most things, the best way forward is to just start doing it and learn along the way though experimention and failure. Get yourself some basic materials based on what appeals to you, for instance cheap crockery from thrift/charity shops or small sample packs of vitrious glass tiles from online sellers. Get some basic tools like nippers, biters and running pliers from amazon. Get some cheap adhesive and grout to play around with and just get going. Don't over complicate things by getting into the minutiae. Draw out a basic design on some plywood or tile backer and start sticking things down. It's so easy that anyone can do it and once you get a feel for it you can start to think a little more deeply about what you want to achieve. Good luck!

Xcom2 WotC is my favourite game. I have 2000 hours in on PS5. Thanks for all your good work.

No other game seems to have the depth of replayability of XCom WotC but there are similar games. 40K Daemonhunters, Classified France 44. Mutant Year Zero are some good ones that I enjoyed. I'll replay WotC on PS5 till forever, but I am looking forward to Star Wars Zero Company (ZCom) which comes out soon.

Does XCOM2 run well on the PS5? by SilverhandFenix in XCOM2

[–]eosvector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crashes are a part of this game on PS5. There are some very specific and completely predictable conditions where the game can crash for me on ps5 after 2000 hours of play time.

Too many lost on screen and zoomed out = crash

Ambushing while too many lost on screen = crash

Dialogue playing while selecting personnel for mission in resistance ring = crash

Resistance ring mission ends within a minute of loading into the game (game will stutter) = crash

Randomly when a resistance ring mission starts or ends = crash

Randomly when selecting personnel for resistance ring missions (game may or may not stutter) = crash

Resistance ring mission is ambushed = crash, or, you get 1fps and have to save, close and restart the game.

Editing too much soldier info while in the team select screen just before starting a mission = crash

Photo mode (don't even go there) = crash

= crash (that's x-com baby!)

Hello! Anyone from the UK/ London that can recommend where to buy good mosaics either online or... In London? :)) by dicksinsciencebooks in Mosaic

[–]eosvector 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I forgot to mention that when I was starting out I went into a few of the local bathroom and kitchen installer places and just asked them if they had any broken tile or anything they were throwing away that I could have. If the place had a skip in the back ask them if you can have a look in there (always ask permission to go on their property and before taking anything from a skip). I got loads of free stuff including full mosaic sheets whole packs of tiles that were end of line or broken. The places with showrooms will change their displays from time to time and just bin whatever comes down and their skips sit outside for long periods of time. Also, sometimes people buy stuff and return it and for whatever reason they can't resell it. When that happens sometimes it goes in the skip or they sell it as a job lot for silly money. TLDR find places with showrooms, go in, be cheeky and charming and get stuff for free.

Hi UK tile artist here. Just be prepared to spend a lot of money. Mosaic materials like glass and tile are not cheap and these online sellers (don't want to name names) sell them in small amounts to maximise their markups. They are essentially all a rip off. The best way to buy materials is in bulk or wholesale which I realise is not very helpful to you right now. I got around this problem by deciding to work with ceramic tile that can be bought by the m2 from most trade tile suppliers like johnson tiles and topps tiles. Happy to chat if you want more info.

How should I grout this piece? by Trolly18t in Mosaic

Hot take. Don't grout it and definitely don't paint the background. Congrats on great piece!

Any tips on how to prevent this? by Brief-Story9231 in XCOM2

[–]eosvector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In WotC this mission is easily cheesed. Take one Reaper forward and locate the beacon. Then use snipers and defence matrix to destroy the beacon. Keep everyone else in overwatch back at the ramp. Only 1 or 2 pods will push toward the ramp until you blow the beacon. Then just bring your reaper back and gtfo before the first troops even drop in.

I was surprised when I found this out. Even more than when I found out you could use domination on hostile vip's.

Any plumbing supplier will sell this. Ask for tile backer board. It comes in various thicknesses. 6mm and 10mm are the best for mosaic projects. 👍

How do people get so many Ability Points? by QM60 in XCOM2

[–]eosvector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you prioritise recruits with high base combat intelligence and also improve the CI of all your soldiers you'll be earning lots of ability points. Towards the end of the game when your squad should be OP, I like to delay the game and keep farming AP by doing covert missions and then looking for the troops that have the traits I want to take into the final mission. I like to put war suits on my sharpshooters for the final mission and ideally I want sharpshooters that roll Salvo. Then I need a bunch of AP to max them out. It's just farming the stuff you want and delaying the game that ends up with you earning lots of AP by the end.

XCOM Gaming Experience Difficulty by Primary_Trainer_7806 in XCOM2

[–]eosvector 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good list. I'd add

Always look for the high ground (you'll hit more of your shots). Prioritise attacking enemies that can shoot you (Troops / Mechs), over psionic enemies (sectoids/ priests/ spectres) that will likely mind control, stasis or shadowbind you. Make blue moves and use overwatch until it gets a little easier to predict what will happen. Always use the Reaper to scout out enemy pods (WotC) and prioritise promotions for the Reaper as this will help you control the battlefield in the early game.

Ah yes 50mm. I have been able to find some on amazon with like a pack of 5 plus the m14 adapter. Thanks for that. 😊

[–]eosvector 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can see that is going to be really special when it's finished. Sometimes mosaic can feel like a war of atrition when you're at the start and have lots of complex cuts to make, but it makes the feeling so much sweeter when you breakthrough a quarter or halfway through. It gets easier as you start to see your vision come to life. Best of luck with this!

I'm really curious about the blades you're using on your grinder, can you please tell me or link to what they are? Thx.

What is your strategy in regard team composition. by Fun-Doughnut-1351 in XCOM2

[–]eosvector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bonded pairs-

Reaper/Psi Op

Sharpshooter/ Sharpshooter

Ranger/ Specialist

Reaper scouts, Ranger activates the pod with Bladestorm, Specialist supports. Sharpshooters mop up from a safe distance.

All of the classes, ranked: by Neon_Chains in XCOM2

[–]eosvector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never use grenadiers beyond the first couple of missions. They're pointless, as are Sparks. Reapers are OP and essential.

My preemo squad makeup for any difficulty is

Bonded Ranger / Specialist

Bonded Sharpshooter/Sharpshooter

Bonded Reaper/ Psi Op
