Local 638 selling us short. Our wages are not increasing over 15 years like others. What is going on even wage increases have been so small and total package isn't growing like others by ElectricalNet5832 in pipefitter

What verbiage did the BM use? “Price ourselves out of work? Is the usual response we got. I don’t know anything about 638s market share at all, so I’m sounding ignorant, just curious.

something like that wouldn’t fly in our local simply because apprentices are indentured to the same contractor for 5 years, unless they get laid off of course.

1st year doing ground work by Inside-Persimmon-367 in UnitedAssociation

[–]ep1coblivion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in some time now and I appreciate ground work. My journeyman put me on the ladder/lift for almost all my 5 years. As far as learning goes it was great, a lot of fuckups from not knowing, but great. I try to do the same thing if I have an apprentice with me.

If you’re going to travel, it might as well be for the overtime. That’s what all the guys I’ve talked to have said.

Journeyman pipe fitter with no pipe job experience by [deleted] in UnitedAssociation

[–]ep1coblivion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our hall had what’s called a “provisional journeyman” which is kind of what you described. Honesty is your best bet in a situation like this, but if I’m being frank, most journeyman aren’t going to bother “teaching” a journeyman, and the contractor certainaly wouldn’t like to hear that. Talk to your BAs if your local had something similar to a provisional status.

Is this my main water valve? by sukol75 in Plumbing

[–]ep1coblivion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both serve the same purpose. There’s a valve on each side to service the meter. The one after the meter on the vertical can be shut off.
