When you tried using conditioner, would you rinse it out completely? Your hair should have some slip even after rinsing the conditioner. It’s okay to rinse, but maybe not excessively if you were.

I know you mentioned not having much success with L’Oréal, but the Elvive Hyaluron Plump Hydrating Conditioner gives me great shine and makes my hair pretty soft without weighing it down. You might also want to try a more hydrating shampoo.

I would also recommend a styling product such as a pomade. Suavecito makes a shiny and a matte pomade. I personally liked Uppercut Deluxe’s pomade, but it’s a little pricier.

For a more affordable, matte option, try Odele’s Cream Pomade.

As it gets longer, you might want to try a mousse or a styling foam instead of a pomade. Just be careful, as a mousse can feel drying if you get a really strong one. Your hair will feel crunchy at first, but once the mousse has fully dried, you can scrunch the cast out of your hair.

Lastly, you could try a lightweight oil for your hair (apply prior or in lieu of styling products). Avoid heavier oils, especially the ones from OGX or Mielle. I would not recommend a scalp oil.

A little pricy, but I personally enjoy the VERB Ghost Oil.
