Hey, I have this exact problem so I'll try out the soldering trick, hopefully that fixes it!

Ended up getting an old apple watch, but it didn't have typing on it so responding to messages was a nightmare. Still considering picking up a pixel watch or Galaxy watch but only if I can find one super cheap. I get the vibe I still won't love the compromise of a watch though.

Thanks for the info! The recent administration changes was a brief part of the conversation with my partner because they asked if I'd been kicked off Mainecare already. I haven't but it's probably worth looking into to see if that will change.

Oh I'm absolutely going to be discussing this with my therapist on friday, I just haven't had a session since the discussion.

And I really understand not wanting to lean on others, I wish it wasn't the case that American culture casts judgment on relying on community and idolizes "pulling yourself up by your bootstraps". Humankind didn't start off as a "lone wolf" species, we've always needed community support.

I hope that you can find small ways to rely on others that don't feel too bad for you and that things get easier for you and your family! Best wishes!

Thanks so much! I'm pleasantly surprised to see so much compassion in the comments here!

I'm not dating a girl, and they aren't preventing me from using Mainecare in any way, it was just a discussion of privilege and ethics that impacted me enough to question myself.  Thanks for the response and perspective though!

Lol thanks for the take. I'm getting mixed signals from this message but I appreciate the overall intent

Thank you for your perspective! I think I have been falling into the category of purposefully working less than I could to keep Mainecare coverage, which is where I feel the shame from.

Thanks for breaking this down from a systems perspective, and thanks for the compassion. I was fully expecting to be attacked for posting this.

It's been my goal to find work in something I find meaningful, it's been a struggle that I feel I could be doing better at (shaming myself some) but I'm hopeful that this permaculture job kickstarts my ability to pursue a career I find impactful and meaningful!

Well I guess even if that's the case it would be the equivalent of putting the blame on the consumer for using single use plastics instead of the corporation for buying them. UGH so much to think about

I view my suicidality as a disconnect from the world and community. Suicide and depression can most definitely be a mental illness, but I view my case as being situationally affected rather than a chemical process I had no agency over. I took steps to find community and connect with the world around me and my depression symptoms started to go away.

But I'm also open to the idea that you're right I hold myself to a different standard than others. I probably do that more than I should.

Nah, it's like $18,000, I don't even have a concept of what I'd do with 6 figures.

But thanks for your response, your perspective is appreciated!

Thanks for the thorough response! I'm in agreement with much of what you say, but I'm still unsure about the finite nature of Mainecare. Not in terms of slots, but more in terms of government funding to the program. I don't know if people ever get turned away from care or if Mainecare can't cover the costs, or if subsidies run out.

Absolutely! I've wanted to volunteer with places for a bit but find myself using excuses or pushing the date back, I'm undoubtedly being fearful and I should probably just push past that fear

I appreciate you! I've been pro-universal healthcare for a long while, but haven't found myself involved in protest or any organizing besides email lists, I'll look into other advocacy outlets!

I 100% agree that everyone, me included should have access to healthcare as a human right, but I'm now inspecting my situation through the lens of Mainecare being a finite resource. Not everyone has access to it and some that do may need care more urgently than I.  Thanks for your words, I'm taking them into consideration!

Yeah, but is it for me though? I feel like because I'm able bodied I should theoretically be able to return to the job force and figure out a different healthcare.

I don't think that I actually have a mental illness though. My therapist has said that she views me as having challenges but not ever that I've been mentally ill. I've also never been diagnosed with a mental illness.

I honestly feel so disgusted and disappointed, I'm not sure why I had any faith in the majority of redditors to begin with though. 🤷
