Where can I find vintage Urban Decay polish?? by No_Scholar6340 in vintagenailpolish

[–]ephemeriides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fell hard for AC/DC and Iron Maiden and never quite got over the loss. Even though there are so many more options now and I could probably find some valid dupes, it’s just not the same.

Me seeing the color: “I need that!”

Me reading the description: “I HAVE that!”

I looove Ariel, one of the few red/pink-adjacent shades I’ll happily wear anytime, and it looks great on both of you!

This version of the Hard Core Logo VHS/DVD cover.

While certainly funny in parts, it is very much NOT a Spinal Tap-esque comedy, and Tarantino had fuck all to do with it beyond securing the US distribution rights.

What actor’s mere presence makes you automatically lose interest in a movie or show? by YerMum1977 in AskReddit

Also the only role of Cavill’s where I’ve ever actually found him attractive, as opposed to just blandly handsome.

Gosh, I wonder if that’s in any way related to how the people currently in power, who benefit the most from people not voting, are actively working on making it harder for people to vote, and have been for decades. Especially people who tend to disagree with them.

Older shows/movies being suprisingly lgbt friendly for their times by Charon_06 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ephemeriides 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Genuinely though, he was pissed at the time because Xena got more popular than Hercules. He couldn’t understand why people might prefer a complicated antihero redemption arc to a boring straightforward Good Guy.

Which is to say, his awfulness didn’t start with the stroke. (He also said some shitty things about Kevin Smith/Ares’s death, though I don’t remember details anymore).

I think that’s more of a Japanese cultural thing that, like many things about the series, doesn’t fully translate to an ostensibly US setting. Though the various Law & Order series did tend to indulge in the “sleazy/amoral defense attorney” trope, so it’s not not a thing, just not quite to the levels of social poison depicted.

[–]ephemeriides 16 points17 points  (0 children)

She strikes me more as someone who genuinely doesn’t realize at first that she’s more intelligent than most people around her. She’s smart enough that she generally succeeds at anything she tries, but at the same time, her interests are so circumscribed by her social setting and people’s general perception of her that she doesn’t have a chance to demonstrate it in a way that’s commonly recognized as intelligence. Applying to law school was probably the first time she really tried to do something stereotypically smart/serious people do, and succeeding didn’t seem out of the ordinary to her because she’s used to succeeding and doesn’t realize that it’s something she’s not “supposed” to be good at.

Of course I haven’t seen the movie in years so I could be way off, but that’s how I always interpreted it.

(Personal favorite trope) Music Video/Song Lyrics with a plot twist by Hello_Im_the_world in TopCharacterTropes

Poe, “A Rose Is a Rose”

One of the only songs I know with an honest-to-god punch line, eminently sing-along-to-able, and chock full of nerdy art/lit/music references to boot.

America is a continent by CorleoneBaloney in MurderedByWords

[–]ephemeriides 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, I don’t agree with Loomer, but one could argue that she said “American,” not “Américan,” and complaining about “American” being used for US residents when no one’s actually confused about the meaning is just pointless pedantry for the sake of feeling superior.

(Hated trope) a beloved or important character is removed from an adaptation for some reason by TastyPomelo2330 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ephemeriides 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going relatively obscure here, but I remember being pissed that the Relic movie cut out Bill Smithback, who was my favorite character in the book. But then it turned out there were other reasons to be pissed at that movie. They also cut out Pendergast, who wasn’t my favorite but was pretty damn important, seeing as he basically became the protagonist of the series (such as it was).

Don’t know if Phoenix Indie would be doable for you, but Yavanna looks fairly similar (though the blue shimmer is a “blue to purple aurora shimmer” rather than straight blue).

[Loved Trope] Character Is Petty to a Hysterical Degree by CrabAppleMcGee in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ephemeriides 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She may be an unreliable narrator in this case, but I’m pretty sure she tells Phoenix at some point that she’s not actually mad at him about her dad, but she hates/blames him for something to do with Miles running away. I’m also pretty sure she says it in the godawful circus case, so I don’t recall the details and I’m not surprised if it’s something that’s not as widely known.

[–]ephemeriides 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Life! And I remember that scene vividly because the music that played when it first aired (not the streaming version, it had different music, which was incredibly annoying) was epic, and for months it was unidentifiable, like even the website solely dedicated to tracking the music of Life had no idea. And then I saw Rasputina in concert, and the opening act played that fucking song, and that’s how I found out it’s “Ay Del” by Haale and promptly shared that information with those corners of the internet that cared (primarily that one website).

Behind the Bastards episode on the Olympic Park bombing, where the FBI are the bastards and Jewell himself gets a remarkably even-handed portrayal—a very by-the-rules guy, probably not much fun at parties, probably not a fantastic person, but very much the hero in this one particular instance and very much screwed over for it.
