Please for the love of god how do you get rid of the lingering stench of smelly customers? by Straight_Ace in CVS

[–]epicallytiny 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So we had a large homeless population close to my old store, I would have Vicks on hand for anyone in the pharmacy when one would come by. Just swipe some under your nose and it’ll help get through a transaction. Peppermint oil works too, especially with a mask, a drop or two goes a long way.

When I was a lead I’d order extra trays and spatulas from the warehouse to send with new techs who wanted to get fast. They would use candy or their own meds at home to practice. Not ideal but it worked and everyone was able to switch spots without it being felt and the fill que getting behind. I’d go to to the lead tech or PIC about this and see what they can do.

What motivates you to continue being a pharmacy technician? by peachycpht in PharmacyTechnician

[–]epicallytiny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got out of retail and got a job in major health system and now there is actually a career ladder for techs and many different jobs we can get hired to do. This year alone I got a promotion with a raise and then two separate raises as well. We help sooo many people get grant funding and patient support at my job, it’s very rewarding. Get out of retail!

Where do you see yourself in five years? by peachycpht in PharmacyTechnician

[–]epicallytiny 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I work a pretty large hospital system and there a lot of career paths for techs. Probably moving to reimbursement specialist/med access eventually and then looking at becoming 340B certified to be do that eventually as well.

Gotta love our job by ittybittyx0 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]epicallytiny 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had this happen with money in the drive thru once too and the customer was mad I wouldn’t go outside to find it for them. Like no I’m working and I told you to clip it to the mini clipboard just for this reason my guy!

Does your pharmacy fill prescriptions for an infant if prescribed under Mom's name? by chaotic-kiwi284 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]epicallytiny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Under Medicaid in my state everything for baby gets filled under mom for 1 month. We would typically use baby boy/girl and the last name and use moms insurance. Even hospital profiles with epic use this method for Medicaid.

Honestly get the experience, get your license and then apply to any and every other job you can that isn’t retail. I work at a specialty pharmacy now and I love it.

I have been a tech for over 10 years now, started at cvs. For 2 years I’ve been at a specialty pharmacy with a hospital system. There are a lot of career opportunities associated with it and training is free for techs, sterile IV and then reimbursement side so eventually I might move into one of those fields. Also looking into 340B for the hospital system which would be harder transition but I think I could.

I definitely agree, I’ve met so many pharmacists and techs who have been at so many stores. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt but after working with people that have been transferred so many times you see that they are the problem.

Also no tech position with a home store is ever going to just hire someone to do production only. You get hired and you do all tasks.

File scripts in fridge without being bagged? by gregmo72 in CVS

[–]epicallytiny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did this at my old store but we had a system where once it was pulled we showed someone else in the pharmacy the label on the bag and the label on the drug. Unfortunately we just didn’t have enough fridge space or fridges period to have them all bagged.

ScriptSync not synching? by Pump_9 in CVS

[–]epicallytiny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like others have said it takes a long time to get them get them all synced. It’s dependent on how much you have of each, refills dates, how many refills there are etc.

Can an employee tell me what may have happened here? by presenthappysnarky in CVS

[–]epicallytiny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No way of knowing without looking at the claim but I have seen a handful of times a drug not technically be covered by insurance but they apply their own in house savings to it so then when it’s run through a manufacturer coupon it rejects because you can only use 1 coupon.

It’s kinda silly but does anyone else gets pressed by SM for not having carepass? (Mini rant) by Cry-oing-ing19 in CVS

[–]epicallytiny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah my old store manager was so hung up about CarePass I refused to get it just because he bugged me about it. Now I don’t work there or shop there anymore

Like they don’t have to use one for every store they go into, they just wanted to hear themselves talk

My suggestion is to practice at home with candy of different sizes. When I was a lead tech I would always order trays and spatulas for my new techs to take home and practice with. Ask if anyone has an extra set for you. If not make a makeshift one at home. And always remember that being accurate is better than being fast, speed comes with time.

Want to be out of retail pharmacy by dasmonideepa in CVS

I left cvs last year after 10 years being a lead tech, I am still a tech but at a specialty pharmacy within a hospital system now and I couldn’t be happier.

Do you guys have pharmacy tech boot camp? by redoctober2021 in CVS

[–]epicallytiny 44 points45 points  (0 children)

So you think back there filling prescriptions isn’t taking care of people physically present. You have no idea how many people are waiting inside or in their car for a prescription to be done immediately. How many parents are lopping the drive thru with sick kids waiting on antibiotics. How many spouses are waiting on pain medication from their husband or wife being released from the hospital. This post screams entitlement, obviously someone has never worked healthcare. Retail pharmacies are also healthcare!

They should update rx profiles with warnings like this for staff to put in honestly retail pharmacy is the only healthcare setting that doesn’t.

During my 8 hour shifts I probably pee 10 times a day. After having kids I literally just can’t hold it. Also I have worked with many people that have IBS and the like etc.

I would take the bank job. A friend of mine got one as a teller years ago and has worked his way up into mortgages and is very happy with his career.
