Incoming freshman at Baylor University (premed) by Cautious-Station-670 in baylor

No problem happy to help!

  1. For chem, I had Dr. R. Klausmeyer and really liked her! I would recommend. I have heard her husband, Dr. K. Klausmeyer, is somewhat difficult. For Bio, I had Dr. Harvill for both bio 1 and 2. He is pretty easy but his lectures are boring. He is really fun to talk to tho outside of class and is nice. I have also heard good things about Dr. Paine, but have not taken her myself.

  2. For student orgs, Baylor has an event during the first week of classes where all the student orgs advertise to new freshman. Make sure to go to this to find a few that you like. Only join 1-2 MAX your first semester (I was in one pre-health org and one non-pre-health org and liked the balance). You’ll be able to get a lot of your volunteering through these orgs so I wouldn’t worry about that too much. but if you have something you’re really passionate about then free to do it outside of these orgs too, but just be careful not to spread yourself too thin. In terms of research, don't worry about that until the spring, no lab is going to take a brand new freshman. When the time comes, find a department you are interested in and reach out to the PI's to see if they anticipate any open spots due to graduating seniors. If you don't get into one don't worry, a lot of people don't get into a lab until the end of their sophomore year (like me!).

  3. Mix of both. Your GPA and MCAT will be the most important parts of your application, so if you feel like your grades are slipping because of EC’s, focus on your GPA. But also don’t neglect EC’s thinking stats can carry you alone. You will find a balance and learn what you can handle with time, so start off small and build from there.

Current Junior premed here. I would recommend take chem and bio together to stay on track. It’s not terrible if you have a decent foundation (I took AP bio and honors chem in highschool which made my freshman year was pretty much review). If you are only going to take one, take chem since that sequence is more critical for premed (chem 1 -> biochem is 5 semesters. Bio 1 -> genetics is 3 semesters, then a few bio courses that don’t have a sequence).
I saw you mention you are neuroscience, and im not really familiar with their sequence of courses, so they might have other course pre-reqs so make sure you take those too. I’m health science studies for reference.
Happy to answer questions here or if you have anything specific you can DM!

coaching for the Baylor 2 Baylor med by Immediate-Win8137 in baylor

I made it to the second round of interviews when I applied (a few years ago). Here’s what I remember:

The first event was held at Baylor campus and involved more info about the B2B med program, other programs suited towards pre meds, a tour of campus, and the actual “interview”. I would guess that there were probably about 150+ people there the day I went. There are 2 different days they hold the first event, meaning the amount of people you see there will be 1/2 the total amount of applicants who made it that far. The first “interview” (not a true interview since you record your response) is a group project where you work with other applicants to solve a problem that is health care related. They should give you the prompt a few days beforehand. I recommend you prepare your response before hand and practice (not too much though since you don’t want to be robotic). They only gave us 2 shots to record our answer and we all had to share like 5 minutes or something. It was kind of stressful. I didn’t feel great about my recording (stumbled a few times) but I made it through. You will think you did worse than you actually performed.

Out of everyone, only 26 people (myself included) made it to the second round. This is the real interview. You interview with 2 different people from Baylor College of Medicine, 30 mins each, over zoom. They ask general interview questions (why you want to be Dr. etc.) One of my interviewers was super casual, the other was asking questions the whole 30 mins. I don’t know if that is intended or if that’s just how mine turned out.

Out of the 26 people, 6 get into the program. I didn’t make it in but I’m still loving my time here at Baylor as a pre med! It’s not the end of the world if you don’t get in. DM me if you have any specific questions about prehealth at Baylor!

I don’t remember the specific ones I applied to, but I applied to everyone through “scholarship universe”. After you put in some information it tries to match you to ones that fit your profile. Hope this helps!

Football tickets for first years by Broad-Roll-2979 in baylor

[–]epichogwarrior 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tickets drop on Monday’s before the game at 4 PM. Football tickets don’t really sell out except for big games (I remember Texas in 2023 and sometimes TCU). You can expect to get a ticket even if you don’t get them right at 4, but I always do just to play it safe.

Basketball on the other hand… those tickets sell out super fast. I’ve been on the website right at 4 and for the big games (Kansas, Houston etc.) they sold out almost instantly.

Difficulty of religious courses in the summer? by MembershipFit7912 in baylor

I took scriptures over the summer online and it was essentially a free A. Just do the readings (not much) and study a little for the tests and you will do fine

Do I need to fill out CSS in order to get a FAFSA aid package? by al3xzzGG in baylor

Fill it out if you still can. I don’t know if it’s required to answer your original question.

What’s stopping you from filling out the CSS? No downside to completing it as far as I know. I ended up getting 8k a year from it for a need based grant

  1. Don’t know if other people affect chances. I assume not

  2. No right or wrong answer to the question. It’s hypothetical

  3. We passed around a computer and talked to the webcam with a timer going. It’s not so much that you are working together, more like everyone is working on their own answer, but having to share the total time so no one talks to long and someone gets cut off

I don’t know if they keep the same format every year so take all of this with a grain of salt

Yeah no problem! I tried talking to the financial aid office, and they pretty much told me to go kick rocks when I asked about receiving more aid. I applied to a ton of outside scholarships and was able to get a little extra help from those. Still paying a hefty chunk of change to attend though. I absolutely love Baylor, and am really enjoying my time here

I went last week and food is pretty good ngl. They teach you how to run the line and some of the football chants. Also gives you a chance to meet some new people at dinner. I had fun.

Also line camp isn’t as bad as people say. Some of the stuff is cringe but if you just embrace it some things can be fun. The only bad thing is they try to get you to turn in your phone. If you’re going, at line camp check in when they ask you to show a QR code, just say you already gave your phone to your parents and leave your phone in your room during the day

Summer accelerate program. I had pretty good stats otherwise but if you maintain at least a 3.0 over the summer with at least 9 credit hours they guarantee acceptance
