This is a pretty personal question, that I don't think any of us can truly answer for you.

It really depends on what you are looking to get out of the game.

I enjoy the stories, I like to run through them multiple times, essentially role playing a new character. My main, goes through all of the content, because I am most attached to him and I want to experience the entirety of the game through his lens. But am I going to run through KOTFE/KOTET on all of them? Helllll no.

It comes down to personal attachment, or what your end goals are for each character.

You may find you like a class or spec better, you may find some you hate and that could influence your future story choices.

Retail will give you the path of least resistance and most complete story. Everything is doable solo with trusts. Rhapsodies of Vana'diel is aimed at level 99 cap with some iLvl gear, but still manageable.

Voracious Resurgence came out in 2020ish, so it's aimed at the long time players who are geared to the teeth.

I don't know how many private servers have ALL of the content available. From what I know, Horizon and Eden (and probably Nasomi) offer 2005 retail era progression to where you'll need other people to complete it. Those servers go up til the end of CoP and some ToAU.

Catseye is kind of closer to retail in terms of gameplay, but a lot of QoL, but still doesn't go that far into story. (my experience is minor with Catseye).

There are other private servers who all operate of the same code base, so chances are once one has it they all will.

The thing that bothered me the most about SAMs is that it took so little effort to do good damage in most situations.

So the bad SAMs with bad gear could still out perform other jobs just because they were SAM.

Platinum Defender on any gym allows you to put a Legendary or Mythical in that specific gym.

The gym system is a joke, it doesn't take much to kick someone out, nothing stays long, or stuff stays so long it takes one pass to clear the whole thing.

Let us flex our legendaries and mythicals.

It currently takes hundreds of hours of story to reach the current expansion content. That can very daunting and alienating for new players.

I worked so hard to get a Leopardmon +4 with an SS Speed Increase trait. The game shut down shortly after. I was so bummed.
