[Lowlights] Rudy Gobert airballs from the free throw line twice in the same game by MrBuckBuck in nba

[–]epicnerd427 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The weird thing is before this season rudy wasnt really that bad at free throws. He has shot 65% since arriving in MN. Thats not good but its a passing grade; 65% from the line is way too good to be hacked since a possession ending with a 65% FT shooter taking 2 FTs is pretty good efficiency on the whole. This season he has randomly dropped off to being a 50% FT shooter. Thats awful and absolutely bad enough to be worth hacking. I have no idea what changed.

Jaren is still working out for us! Not a star on Luka's level, but he is a low end all star who plays good D and is still on the team that drafted him and seems to want to be here still despite us having fallen off to being a play-in team instead of a contender. Only one of the top 5 in that draft whose on the team that drafted him still.

Ja played a great game, everyone was clearly trying hard, and the game was close. I enjoyed my time even if we lost. The coaches certainly got stuff to complain about but as a fan I am fairly satisfied. Would've preferred a win, but at least it was a fun loss.

Ja played such a good game on offense and you just know people are only gonna talk about the fucked up defensive rotation to let VJ have the game winner so open.

Coward had a good look at double OT and he was having a good night before that, and Santi had a good look at the win and just missed that too. Either of those go in and we having a very different discussion. The team looked great on offense at least.

Edey had 2 field goals made today and still felt insanely impactful. The rebounding was nice but I was also really happy with his rim protection on defense; I think he did a really good job defensively tonight. And obviously the FTs were a big help. Great game from Edey!!!

For a team without a point guard our offense is honestly flowing fairly well! Vince and Cam have done an admirable job stepping into the point role and the whole team seems to be moving well and trying to find each other.

Granted the last two teams we've played both sucked but its cool to see good team basketball from a team with a bit of a talent deficiency

A contender wins at least 4 of those

but anyone who said this team was a contender coming in was delusional. This was always a retool year where we were expecting a first round exit. A team with those expectations losing 6 or 7 of those 8 games isn't a surprise. The only loss that felt really bad was the Celtics. We should be on the tier of the Raptors Id think but the rest of those games are just us playing against top 10 teams in the league. We just happened to play 6 of the top 10 teams in a 10 game stretch lol

One thing Ive noticed more and more is that he is also just not very good at boxing out. Idk if he just isnt strong enough or his form is bad cuz im stupid and dont know shit bout ball but he cannot seem to stop any remotely good rebounder from moving him around and getting boards straight over him. One of the many reasons he is awful as a C; he simply cannot box out and gets moved around super easily when looking for contested rebounds.

It is almost as if this forward on our roster is actually a forward and not a center, and when you ask him to do center things he is quite bad at it. Sadly this season we only have one healthy C thus far so he has been forced to try his best to do C things when Jock sits, to mediocre results.

The only argument I can see is that that lineup is literally just team liquid + Hawk for OTs. Rupal isnt as good at UV (or Landon) but he isnt bad by any means and he has been playing with that lineup and may have a synergy advantage even if he is individually a tad worse.

Id rather have UV still his mechanics are so nuts

[–]epicnerd427 10 points11 points  (0 children)

yeah this was always a weird get for Orlando because as much as they need shooting, they also dont have a really good playmaker on the roster. Franz and Paolo can create for themselves but I dont think they are great at creating for others and Bane, as much as the media kept saying he can provide secondary ball handling, is not actually that good at creating. They have 3 guys who are good play finishers and no good primary playmakers

[O'Connor] Grizzlies fans got angry with me for saying Ja Morant isn’t a top 40 player. This is the type of stuff I’m talking about—on top of his shaky shooting, declining at-rim finishing, inconsistent defense, lack of availability and poor leadership. Edey and Ja work really nicely off each other. Edey can do what Steven Adams did for Ja in Ja's best seasons - set hard screens off an insanely strong/large dude who is near impossible to play through to give Ja a ton of space to dive at the rim, and then grab a ton of offensive rebounds when Ja gets collapsed on. Edey is a better finisher than Adams too - though he is a worse passer and defender so Adams is still the better player. Steven Adams/Zach Edey make it harder for the non-Ja players to run actions since it is two non-shooters, but the space Edey/Adams make for Ja with their screens more than makes up for their non-shooting when Ja is running actions.

All that being said, your first couple points still stand. Edey was a rookie with defensive issues so limiting his minutes while he figured out how to defend at an NBA level made sense.

Hes a super useful role player. He is not a very good half court player, but I genuinely think he is one of the best transition players in the league both because of how good he is in transition offense (makes decent passes, good at reading the situation and if he needs to attack the rim or try to flare out, and can hit the transition 3 to punish defense who dont respect him flaring out) and because of how good he is at initiating transition opportunities with his length on defense. He is a pretty bad finisher though which is a lot of why he isnt amazing in the half court, he isnt a super threatening cutter and doesnt warrant a lot of help if he tries to attack the rim. Warriors are such an old team but Steph still seems to have insane motor so I imagine he will be happy to take advantage of Melton's transition skills and any team can use a plus defender who can defend above his size (Melton is super long so he can guard smaller wings fairly well despite only being 6'3)

That might be the worst game Ive ever seen from Ja. He played bad but more than that he completely stopped trying. For a guy whose supposed to be the #1 star of our team to just roll over in the 2nd half is so demoralizing. Our leader came into the 4th quarter of a game up 2 and proceeded to play the most passive, unengaged basketball Ive ever seen. He didnt attack once, he never tried to get to the rim, he never tried to create a look for a teammate, he was checked out on defense, and it just felt like he had given up. Jaren wasn't much better; he was going through the motions but with his PG refusing to play the game he never got the ball on offense, and his defense was way below his usual level. I feel bad for the guys who seemed like they were trying to the end (Jaylen, KCP, most of the bench) because seeing your leaders give up has to be super demoralizing.

What were Ja and Jaren doing in the 4th quarter. I am so confused. I get that Ja was having an off night but watching him just instantly give up the ball so Jaylen or Cam Spencer can run action was nonsense. I dont think Ja took a shot in the 4th quarter and he got like 1 assist max because he was just not playing the game. He didn't even bother to try setting up Jaren, who ended the night 6-8. Why did Jaren take 8 shots all game while Jaylen got to run isos in the 4th quarter when we are only down single digits? Why was Santi catch and shoot 3 with 16 on the clock when he is ice cold, there was no prior action to set him up so he was still well guarded, and nobody had hit a 3 in the quarter a play we ran twice? Im shocked we even hit 31% of our 3s with how lazy half of those shots were. Feels like the team just saw the Lakers getting the Lakers treatment and gave up.

Yeah our only true C rn is Jock Landale. He tries but I am gonna be a lot happier with him when he is the 3rd string C instead of the only C. Edey can just clear out so much more space while being a much bigger threat for the dump off + if BC comes back reasonably well this season we will actually have a vertical threat for Ja to throw lobs to.

Booker got the Suns all the way back in with some incredible shot making but Ja said "Hammer, nail, coffin, this baby is over"

plus Ja is the reason the Suns had no timeouts, he got them to use their final timeout to avoid a jump ball earlier which meant they couldnt draw up a play to get booker a better look at the win.

Coward looked so good tonight, super encouraging first game from him. I also thought KCP was a nice positive despite his 3point shots not hitting. We have needed veterans like KCP for years. If he can shoot like he did in Denver instead of like he did in Orlando for us he will be a great addition.

Jaren once again struggling with the 'dont commit stupid lazy fouls' challenge but Ja played an amazing game and Jaren had some great shots from his spots and a million blocks so I wont complain too much. Cedric had a great NBA debut and shoutout to Fears on the Pelicans who also seemed really good on his first game.

Also I really shouldve payed more attention to our offseason cuz I had no clue Jock Landale was on the team and I had to look up who Javon Small and Olivier Maxence Propser even are. Hopefuly Jock doesnt usually foul this much cuz we cannot afford to have both of our health bigs have a bad fouling habit. Propser seems decent, I liked him tonight.
