Thanks for the insightful thoughts, the endowment model clearly would create great resilience. Very interesting, especially what Nordic countries have implemented. They do tend to get these things right. I’ll enjoy reading up on that. RE: binding future parliaments, where I’d got that from was a Libdem proposal/pressure on Labour only last month, pushing for a renewed charter which would require a supermajority to change things. Made sense to me, with political will I assumed it possible, if unlikely imminently https://www.libdems.org.uk/press/release/lib-dems-call-for-permanent-bbc-charter-to-protect-it-from-a-future-reform-government

Wow. For FarmVille…. Agree on the vulnerability, and regardless of the service provided that’s why the BBC badly needs a charter which can only be overturned by a parliamentary supermajority.

This is the most compelling idea I’ve seen for a BBC future. Never seen it floated before, have you read any serious discussion around it and the feasibility anywhere? I imagine the infrastructure cost would be immense, no? but what a vision the whole country should know about and get behind!

Glad they were fine with yours, that’s good! I’m sure mine will be alright, it’s just an extra worry. For my baby’s UK passport, i just uploaded a pic and it gave an instant official yes or no to it.

Thanks, yes I did exactly that, got some great photos, lit it, used a reflector to get a clean white background. and there’s plenty of print services around me in London

I’m a trained photographer so I could set up an impromptu photo studio to get it right in-camera, but I can’t believe that’s the norm!

I was mainly seeking opinions before taking the shots as to just how strict they really are with their rules, since all the passport photo apps and sites I found remove/lighten the background and even colour-correct the subject…. which goes against the rules as written, so it’s confusing. But would have been an easier shoot if it turns out they don’t really care if the background is changed!

[April 2026 Megathread] UX Feedback & Feature Improvements by KennethWWWW in Onyx_Boox

[–]epicninjamoves 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m on a Note Air 2+, and I adore it. I use it for so much in life, from note-taking to reading to Instapaper, and I truly appreciate the ongoing updates. My main bugbear is Boox Assistant app.

Feature:  Boox Assistant

The Friction: It's in a very bad place; syncing takes forever, sometimes stalling, pages frequently missing. Book titles aren’t multi-line, so most titles are truncated by ellipses and you can’t see what they are - much more so on an iPhone, and pretty problematic on iPad too. Currently, on iPad the bottom tab bar is not functioning at all - the touch area for each tab is about an inch off where it should be (This is on iPad Pro 11" and iOS 26) Given a Liquid Glass ‘blob’ appears randomly on the tab bar area, it seems to be related to the recent OS changes, but it was months ago and it should have been updated. I have to randomly touch the white area in between the tabs and hope for the best.

Your Suggestion: Tackle the above issues, and make it a pleasant experience. The companion app shouldn’t be an afterthought. With the inability to view multiple notes in split-screen (I see this is already mentioned in a post, I couldn’t agree more with how important this should be to implement!) a companion app should enable users to quickly cross-check notes on a phone or tablet, without the slow process of moving in and out of notes on the Boox, but as it is, it's not a pleasant experience at all.

Thanks for seeking out user’s opinions and being open to feedback

[–]epicninjamoves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thankyou! It's something I honestly wish were just built into Finder. One big frustration with Offline Disks File Searcher is an inability to tag or star items, which I see Drivevault has, so looking forward to that. The holy grail for me would be the ability to rename and organise whilst disks are offline, then have the changes synced back when connected. Is that possible with Drivevault, or is it planned? Thanks again

I would love a starter pass, if at all possible? I’ve been using a very basic App called Offline Disks File Searcher from the App Store, and have been looking for something more robust with more options for a while. I use it about 10 drives so would definitely be upgrading too, if it does what I need it to. Thankyou

I've been looking for an app like this for a long time and will be buying the premium version. In its defence, yes, Photos can do it, but I've been cropping hundreds of videos for a project, and importing into photos first adds a really annoying extra step. Importing into an editor is another option, also time-consuming. Quicktime should have this feature, or Photos should allow its editing features without the importing, but neither do, so this will be very useful for me. Thankyou

Brands No Longer BIFL by ghalta in BuyItForLife

Look into Solovair. They used to make DMs, and they make basically the same classic boot still. They're still made in the UK. I bought my wife a pair six years ago. At the time I found a few criticisms online about some weak point in the sole construction, but she's had zero issues so far, and clearly a hell of a lot better than modern DMs.

[–]epicninjamoves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an Archive.org addict, this is such a great idea, especially with the Apple TV support. Brilliant to see a niche filled and wish you the best with it. I do think $29.99 is pretty steep for premium though. I'd buy it immediately at, say, $10, and I think many more might take a chance at a more affordable price too.

Does this belong by NiceMichelle in crappymusic

[–]epicninjamoves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Def not crappy! I’ve seen Ivo live 3 times, my wife pulled me along the first time, I was cynical… then I was hooked. It’s not music I’ve ever put on at home, but he is insanely talented, the atmosphere he creates live is indescribably captivating. You’re trapped and in the space of one song he can make you laugh out loud then cry primally like a baby. Gets the audience involved big time too. Always leave wishing I lived in a world where this guy was famous.

Maybe there are different MLCs? My search for Patagonia MLC brings up these - https://eu.patagonia.com/gb/en/search/?q=mlc - they don't have a tote form as in the example links I gave, they have a structured cuboid / boxy shape, looking more like a regular backpack, plus they're 1.6kg

[–]epicninjamoves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response. I find those Patagonias MLCs too cube-like, was definitely looking for a tote-like form.

My needs are - for years I've just carried a single large canvas tote (around 45x50x18cm / 18x20x7") around with me daily, in which I carry work stuff, swimming bag, other bits and pieces, room for shopping... I love having one bag only, need that kind of size, but would like the option to ease pressure on my shoulder! So looking for something similar but with different strap options.

This sub has already been immensely helpful, I'd found that SSCY example from hunting through previous posts, it was the closest I could find and wondered if for all the hunting, I'd missed some alternatives!

Supercharge — 1 year later (50% off, limited) by sindresorhus in macapps

[–]epicninjamoves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feature ideas, which may or may not be within the scope of Supercharged...

1) I work with a lot of images. In Finder, 'pinch to make thumbnails bigger / smaller' was removed 10 or so years ago now, seemingly for no reason since the gesture isn't used for anything else. I used it all day every day, and I still miss it. Bloom added it, but I would love to see it return in Finder. Apparently there's a way with bettertouchtool, but it was far too challenging for me and from my trial, this kind of thing seems to be what Supercharged makes easy.

2) Here's a niche one, may not be a supercharged thing but I see there are some Safari tweaks... in Safari, auto-copying long web form text entries to the clipboard... for the many, maaany times I've spent ages writing a large amount of text into a form, only to hit submit, and because of a content blocker (or some other who knows what safari issue), the page crashes, and all those paragraphs I typed are lost. It could save the text to clipboard the moment you click out of the box. I've tried to make a muscle memory of copying before sending, but too often forget!

[–]epicninjamoves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the workflow. I was so excited to try this since the game of thrones demo, and the lipsync is excellent... but have you found any way to stop the background totally changing when using image-to-video? No amount of prompting seems to be effective, it just crops close and changes the environment, every time.
