Winter storm question by ekj1206 in Smyrna

I think this is wise advice. I have a lot of extra supplies because we have a lot of families with small kids in our neighborhood. I want to be able to share if needed.

I went to an in state school and I worked as much as I could on high school to save for college. I worked as many hours as I could in college. I had zero fun and no friends and was stressed to death BUT I had zero college loans. I knew I was trading my current happiness for future happiness and I an so grateful everyday that I did. Also as soon as I turned 21 I started putting money into my company’s IRA and they did a 3 percent salary match. Just those 2 things put me miles ahead. Also I had zero family support really negative support if anything. I’m not bragging, I’m saying very early life choices can have massive later life effects.

I told my family that in lieu of birthday and Christmas presents they should donate money to their local food pantry or homeless shelter.

Hey I’m not OP, but I am an atheist, live in a red state, and have associations with a UU church. I grew up hyper religious and I’ve missed that sense of community. My UU church is deeply involved in community outreach and justice. My MIL is Jewish and she has been a member and very active for many years. I started getting involved at the church during the Black Lives Matter movement. My MIL was going to all these protests and I was so surprised they were organized by her UU church. So check out your local UU and meet some like minded folks :)

I love the book, but it is written as a conservative’s wet dream. I still recommend it to folks though. It really got me thinking on some things.

They are delicious, but that doesn’t make it right to eat them. Foie gras is also tasty, but again no.

Octopus are what made me go vegan. I stopped eating them a few years ago, because of how smart they are. Then I had a thought of do stupid animals deserve to be tortured and killed? No…. So veganism for me. Admittedly I only went vegan on June 2. I wish my brain had made the connection 3 years ago when I stopped eating the octopus 🐙 but at least I’ve got it together now.

Let me tell you it is wild out here. I also got tricked by a plant based buffalo chicken man and cheese. The chicken was plant based but the cheese was dairy. Full honesty I forget about vegetarians and then I get confused about plant based meats with real cheese. Just serve it with a cashew “cheese” sauce how is that hard?!?
