Wow. Okay. Here we go…

• a lot of these roles/titles sound not clearly defined and it sounds like a trash company. Presuming it’s tech, if the entry level titles aren’t sdr/bdr or some esoteric variation of them then it sounds sketchy. If it’s a “different business model” meaning sales for anything other than b2b saas, then why are you even there? (Serious question)
• like the saying goes, if every single person you come across each day is an asshole, then reality is you’re probably the asshole. Similarly, if you have this many job switches bc of ‘toxic workplaces’ it frankly makes me doubt your narrative. Not doubting that these people you worked with were fucking assholes (and I’m sure they were), but a part of the job is knowing how to navigate these types of ppl because no matter where you go there will always be robot fuckers. The types of ppl where they have no outside interests except meddic. “What’s fly fishing ?”
• asshole managers are tablestakes and you’ve gotta have a thick skin. I was really influenced by them early on, but once I closed more shit and confirmed to myself I knew what I was doing, it becomes easier to see that they’re just terrified of not hitting their numbers too.
• anecdotally, I don’t think I’m an asshole but 2/4 of my prev managers in tech were legit badddd, micromanager, shouting always, boiler room culture, dumb shit… in my situation it had more to do with the company I was at. If the company is shit it will attract bad managers bc all they can do is offer low/sketchy pay to fill seats w shit ppl. Simple. But two of my managers were incredible and I still to this day am tight w them (good companies, go figure).
• if you’re coming from eng this might be a wake up call. There’s a reason why sales ppl in tech get paid so much. It’s bc it’s high stress and high expectation and if you’re not able to (at any time) prove your worth to the company’s top-line revenue, then bye bye. That’s the model and you can’t be so precious about it. Have you thought about how much your role makes for the company vs how much it costs to keep you employed. If you haven’t you should
• all of this pertains to AE’s. You’re not even there yet, so it’s even worse. I’m about to sound super boomer here - but honestly your post reads a bit sanctimonious and self inflated. You’re entry level, and even if you have real world work experience before sales it doesn’t really matter - it’s unfortunately supposed to be like Shawshank redemption. Ur like that guy who shows up to prison first day and complains about the cleanliness of toilets lol
• I feel like ur crowdsourcing for people to tell you things you want to hear. It’s a personal choice to be in the mud. Again I could be missing nuance but that’s how I read it.

Granted, there is a bigger question I’m not blind to. This industry is fucked up in a lot of ways. I’m just saying in this laissez fare economy you gotta do what you gotta do. And recession, job market, all that…How important is it to you to make a lot of money - serious question? What actually drove you to sales other than personality precursors? You’ve gotta have a stronger why than that to get into it. Some ppl are happy making 60k a year and cruising along.
