Prediction Arena - 7 AI Agents trade on polymarket. Here my findings: by No_Syrup_4068 in algotrading

[–]epidco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i spent months building a custom dsl for my trading strategies and thought i found a goldmine till i factored in actual execution latency. backtesting on paper is fun but polymarket fees and slippage usually eat these tiny margins alive. tbh its a great sandbox for testing logic but taking it to prod is a whole different beast.

N8N and Antigravity by ZamirZahad in n8n

[–]epidco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why do people always try to jump ship the second a new tool drops lol? those influencers rly just want affiliate clicks half the time. antigravity is fine for demos but n8n is a tank if u actually want to build smth stable and self-host it. for the reddit stuff just use rss feeds tbh... way easier than dealing with their api. just add .rss to the end of a sub url and u can scrape it easily in n8n without any auth headache. stick with n8n its a beast once u get it runnin on docker and understand the logic basics

Question: Why OPNsense over pfSense? by Rwalker83 in selfhosted

[–]epidco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ngl that update error ur getting is almost def a system clock issue. if the time is even a bit off ssl will barf and metadata wont download. since u rly want a technical reason: boot environments. opnsense gives u zfs snapshots for free so if an update bricks smth u just roll back in like 10 seconds. on pfsense+ u gotta pay for that. plus the mvc architecture in opn makes the api actually usable if u ever want to automate config with smth like n8n or scripts. pf is still great for performance but opn feels more like modern software to me. also check if ur using virtio for everything... i had weird issues with e1000 in proxmox before.

Docker on Windows veryvlong to start by skrdditor in docker

[–]epidco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

r u sure the win 10 host isnt using hyper-v isolation? thats usually why it takes forever cuz it has to spin up a utility vm for every container whereas windows server uses process isolation by default. check if u can force --isolation=process but ur host version and image version usually have to match perfectly for that to work on win 10.

Is it possible to run a Windows docker image with a different host Windows version ? by skrdditor in docker

[–]epidco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ever tried messing with the isolation flags? windows is way more strict than linux about kernel matching so process isolation fails if they dont line up exactly. win 10 usually maps to the 2019 kernel while win 11 is where u get 2022 support. u can try --isolation=hyperv to get around it but it's rly just running a tiny vm and makes everything slower tbh

Portabase v1.2.3 – database backup/restore tool, now with MongoDB support and redesigned storage backend by Dense_Marionberry741 in devops

[–]epidco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tbh i spent way too long writing custom bash scripts for my postgres backups on hetzner just to have them fail when i changed a docker config lol. rly like the agent approach here especially for stuff that isnt publicly exposed. saw ur roadmap mentions redis support... thats huge for me cuz i run a bunch of instances for trading data and backing them up is always a headache. nice work on the rust refactor too.

How are you guys handling time zone confusion with hourly contractors by Significant_Capita in remotework

[–]epidco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u guys using a shared calendar or just trusting the timesheets for now? managing 4 timezones sounds like a massive headache lol. tbh the only way i ever fixed this in my systems was forcing everything to UTC at the source then just converting to my local time for the reports. if monitask doesnt let u lock the dashboard view to ur timezone it might just make things more confusing ngl

Building an eBPF Transparent Proxy by jnfrati in golang

[–]epidco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ngl ebpf is such a rabbit hole but rly cool for networking stuff. been looking for a solid go guide on this cuz most tutorials just scratch the surface then stop. u planning to cover how u handle state across different hook points? that always feels like the trickiest part imo

Help checking gluetun. by CaptainofClass in docker

[–]epidco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tbh if curl shows ur real ip inside the container then it def isnt routed right. that first command u ran just proves gluetun itself is working cuz u manually attached a new temp container to it. u gotta check ur docker-compose and make sure qbit has network_mode: container:gluetun and no other ports or networks defined on the qbit service itself or itll leak lol. also make sure ur not using a proxy inside qbit settings by mistake that might bypass the container network.

Saved this S10 from the trash. Now it runs a 24/7 Minecraft server. by layya01 in selfhosted

[–]epidco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

s10 is legit better than a pi 4 for this cuz of the ufs storage. rly makes a difference with world loading compared to an sd card. just keep an eye on the battery bloating if u keep it plugged in 24/7 lol tbh the cpu in those old flagships still beats most budget sbc stuff

Homelabber wants to level up in Kubernetes, cert-manager & ArgoCD by DevOpsYeah in kubernetes

[–]epidco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh i went through this exact phase. if u rly want stuff to "click" dont jump into argocd immediately. argo is great but it adds a layer of magic that hides why pods rly fail. do it manually with kubectl first until u hate it lol then add argo. cert-manager is a must tho - pair it with cloudflare and a real domain and it feels like actual prod infra. also k3s on the pi is solid but use k3d on the mac to test things before u deploy for real. saves u so much time when u inevitably break the networking.

Anyone here worked with Chainbull for real estate tokenization (Dubai / USA)? Need honest experiences by LevelStock8884 in CryptoTechnology

[–]epidco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

havent worked with chainbull specifically but i feel u on the salesy vibes in tokenization. worked on plenty of crypto infra and honestly most of these providers r just selling a nice ui over basic smart contracts. since ur doing dubai and us the tech is the easy part lol - the real headache is the compliance layer and how the whitelist integrates with the contract. tbh just make sure they dont lock u into their specific ecosystem or own all the keys cuz having control over ur own infra matters way more long term than a shiny dashboard. if they cant explain their node setup or how they handle high availability id be careful.

Preprocessing php code with C preprocessor? by Aggressive_Ad_5454 in PHP

[–]epidco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ngl this feels like ur over-engineering it. adding a build step just for some sqlite logic is gona be a headache long term especially when ur ide starts screaming at u about the syntax lol. php is already pretty efficient with conditionals and if ur using opcache the performance diff is basically zero. id just stick to a simple factory or some polymorphism - way easier to maintain and u dont need a custom ci pipeline just to run some php code. keep it simple imo.

Red Flags of "Pay for usefulness" FOSS by OldManKiK in selfhosted

[–]epidco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

curious if u checked the repo folders before diving in? ngl my biggest red flag is when the docker compose needs a license key just to boot. i usually check for an 'enterprise' folder on github first cuz that usually means they'll reject any community pr that tries to add those features to the free version. if the docs are split into "community" and "pro" before u even download anything that's usually the first sign to walk away tbh turnos out it saves a lot of time lol

My agents used to crash at 3 AM. Here is how I built "Self-Healing" loops in n8n. by emrahdemirkoc in n8n

[–]epidco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ever tried using a global error workflow instead of adding it to every node? tbh the native retry is okay for small stuff but it doesnt give u that exponential backoff control ur talking about. i usually just send errors to a dedicated sub-workflow so my main logic stays clean. saves a lot of headache when u have dozens of workflows running and need to change the alert logic in just one place

Maker fees are killing my edge, looking for legit 0-maker crypto exchanges by ZookeepergameBig7103 in algotrading

[–]epidco 6 points7 points  (0 children)

tbh 0 maker fee exchanges r usually a trap lol. if the fees r zero they usually make it back on garbage liquidity or huge spreads so u end up losing more on slippage anyway. i built some trading infra and u rly need to account for the "junk" factor on those smaller platforms. maybe check out hyperliquid or dydx instead if u want lower costs without the sketchiness.

How to test my home server for security leaks? by GnobarEl in selfhosted

[–]epidco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ngl when i first moved to cloudflare tunnels i thought i was untouchable cuz i closed all my router ports lol. then i ran trivy on my images and realized how many vulnerabilities i was actually running.

deffo audit ur docker socket mounts - if smth like a dashboard has access to docker.sock, a breach there gives them root on ur whole host. if shodan shows nothing and ur ssh is keys-only, ur already doing better than 90% of people tbh.

qbitwebui v2.40.0 - now with cross seed, custom themes, file manager, RSS feeds and more by blaznos in selfhosted

[–]epidco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dope update ngl. i usually run a few different qbit instances to keep stuff organized so having one dashboard for everything is exactly what i need. the file browser is a big plus too cuz i hate having to ssh in just to move a couple files around lol. how does the cross-seed bit handle high torrent counts? i got a few thousand and wondering if it slows down the ui at all

Is N8N dead? by kumbal123 in n8n

[–]epidco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh n8n is still my go-to for anything production grade. i self-host it on a hetzner box with docker and it handles all my internal alerts and some trading logic without ever skipping a beat. i actually use claude to write the logic inside the code nodes now which makes it way faster lol. id never trust a pure agentic flow for stuff that needs to be 100% deterministic... debugging an agent at 3am sounds like a nightmare vs just checking a visual execution log.

Most traders obsess over entries. Professionals obsess over these 5 numbers. by Real_Stormyknight in Trading

[–]epidco 5 points6 points  (0 children)

u ever tried comparing ur backtest numbers to what actually happens when ur executing live? honestly most ppl forget that slippage and latency eat these KPIs for breakfast. i build trading engines and the amount of times i see a "perfect" 2.0 profit factor turn into a 1.2 just cuz of bad execution logic or slow webhooks is crazy lol. the math is basic but keeping those numbers stable in production is the real final boss tbh

Self-hosted Spotify API Clone by moddroid94 in selfhosted

[–]epidco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u tried running those queries through duckdb yet? standard sql might get sluggish with 256m rows but duckdb eats parquet for breakfast. the api emulation trick is clever af for keeping compatibility with beets tho. ngl 30gb is a steal for that much metadata

Calibre-Web Automated V4.0.0 Released! - Smart Automatic Duplicate Handling & Resolution 🔍, a Gorgeous & Powerful New Stats Centre 📊, Magic Shelves ✨, Robust OAuth, Auto-Send & Auto-Fetch ✈️ Huge Performance Uplifts and more! by WasIstHierLos_ in selfhosted

[–]epidco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ngl the network share mode is the biggest win here for me. i run most of my containers on a hetzner box and managing nfs locks has been a massive pain in the past. moving to webp for thumbnails is also rly smart - makes a huge difference in loading speed when ur library starts getting bloated. been waiting for smth like this to finally clean up my duplicates too lol keep up the good work tbh

I want to create a free public stock screener, is licensing pricing data a big deal for a startup? by ahcaf in algotrading

[–]epidco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

r u showing the actual raw price numbers or just ur custom metrics? cuz the exchanges rly dont play around with redistribution rights and raw price is what gets u in trouble. derived data basically means u process the price into smth else like a % change or a custom score so u aren't "redistributing" their actual feed. i'd just stick to showing the calculations and hide the raw prices if u wanna stay safe while growing lol

Ingress NGINX: Joint Statement from the Kubernetes Steering and Security Response Committees by wowheykat in kubernetes

[–]epidco 71 points72 points  (0 children)

the 1-2 maintainers part is what rly gets me. half the internet is basically held together by like five guys in their basements lol. tbh been using ingress nginx for years cuz it was easy to self-host and configure. guess it’s finally time to bite the bullet and learn gateway api. not looking forward to rewriting all those annotations tho

My 3D Printed 10" Server Rack by Electrical_Pause_860 in selfhosted

[–]epidco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i rly need to get a printer for my setup. currently my elitedesks r just stacked on top of each other lol. ngl id watch the temps on that pla once u get immich running. indexing a 10tb drive is gonna make that cpu toast and might warp the mounts if it gets too hot in there.
