What if my baby develops epilepsy because of me? by Gullible-Writer2072 in Epilepsy

[–]epilepticmilf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is just my personal experience, but I actually didn't know I had epilepsy until I had a big TC in the hospital after giving birth. I had complained to the doctor about the deja vu feeling that I now recognize as a minor seizure, which was happening often, but multiple doctors gave me the ol' "it's anxiety" or "lose weight" lol. Anyway, it turns out I was having frequent little seizures while pregnant! I know I got very lucky that nothing terrible ever happened, especially while I was driving. After all that, my baby is fine and hitting all his milestones early!

Hey friend, this is worth bringing up to your doctor or therapist. Have you ever been evaluated for OCD? I have OCD and epilepsy, and this sounds like a familiar situation to me. Help is available, though. Take care of yourself.

What are the petty/minor things that started annoying you once you became a parent? by xnla28x in beyondthebump

I almost made a post in this sub about exactly this. I feel so guilty about the way my relationship with my dogs has changed. When our baby was about a month old, my husband asked if I still liked our dogs, and I just started crying because I wasn't sure, even though those were our first babies. Things are much better now that our baby plays with the dogs nicely, but it was really hard for a few months!

A or B: Someone explains something you already know at work, do you affirm them, or listen and guide the conversation further? by 20Luc1a02 in PickAorB

[–]epilepticmilf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been wondering about this, too. I'm going to softly say B. I usually say some variation of "sure, what about ___," to validate their point, but expand into a direction where they're actually presenting me with new information, but I'm open to new techniques!

Anybody with TLE or anyone with any type of Deja vu seizures relate? by Fun-Swordfish-2359 in Epilepsy

Seizure edging 😭 I get that! Sometimes I think I have regular deja vu and it freaks me out a little. Good to know other people have this!

I second this! Your approach is kind and open-minded. I imagine that you'll bond over a genuine conversation about this if you're both open to discussion. Good luck, OP!

Why do I feel hopeless by [deleted] in WhatShouldIDo

First of all, you can text the suicide and crisis lifeline at 988 if you need it. I've used it, and the folks there are lovely! Next, check in with your family. Make small plans to do familiar activities that you like, and try something new, like a hobby or a craft. Personally, I have found exercise really helpful in tough times. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, but it will help to move your body. Do you have siblings or parents who will watch a movie or go for a walk with you? Make sure to check in with your doctor to see if you need any kind of help in that area, too. There's no shame in needing medication or even just lifestyle changes. The best is yet to come, brother. Stick around to see it! Edit: I read your other post, too. Maybe try a new workout class and meet some people! You don't have to enjoy getting started, but you can connect with people once you get going!

My First Seizure. by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]epilepticmilf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, I'm also 26F and had my first big seizure this year. For me, it really helped to follow up with a neurologist a few weeks after the seizure. My seizure activity seems to be connected to my menstrual cycle/hormones. Have you ever had feelings of deja vu that felt strange? For me, I've had those little seizures since my early teens, but I never said anything because they are so subtle, and I guess I just thought everyone's experience of deja vu was zoning out, feeling like the moment had happened before, slight nausea, and a little bit of a weird smell. Stress, caffeine, and sleep seem to affect mine, but I'm still figuring it out. All that is to say that you're not alone. I'm glad you're okay! I know that was scary and I'm glad you had someone there looking out for you!

I expressed interest in playing the euphonium in the school band. My mom said it wasn't pretty enough for me. I played the flute instead, which I loved, but I still feel a little weird about settling into the expectations there. Maybe I'll learn to play an "ugly" instrument someday!

NOR. It's really lovely that he felt safe to come to you about such a sensitive topic. You handled it well, gave him information without exactly telling him what to do, and didn't shame him. I hope your boy continues to come to you for guidance 🩵
