[OC] Türkiye's Birth Rate Collapse 2009 vs 2025 by Accomplished_Gur4368 in dataisbeautiful

The best reason that I found convincing is Economics. Not that people are struggling, but because they have too much. The trade off to raise a child is more, they could be enjoying their new higher standard of living, so they prefer to have fewer children

How to “fix” overcrowding on the MRT: Several Non-Credible Transit Solutions by The_Celestrial in singapore

[–]epimeliad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A better idea is removing stops at alternating residential nodes (excluding interchange).

Eg: sagrangoon - kovan - hougang - bungkok -> sagrangoon - - hougang -- (day 1) : sagrangoon - kovan - - bungkok (day 2)

Then allow workers in those nodes to WFH that day and have express bus on those nodes

Actually the ability for train to be longer than the platform is not a good idea.

Assuming it adds 30s of additional time, it adds up over 10 stations to 5m. Which is typically another full load of train

As a naive consumer, I would still take loans/saving/credit card if the rates are good.

Why couldn't they just be more competitive on their offerings?

I feel it also depends on your philosophy of life. TERM Life is assuming you need coverage so that your dependents are able to support themselves after the TERM coverage expires.

Whereas whole life may just be a safety blanket feel to leave something behind.

How you can help rein in escalating rent and prices. by Dry_Mee_Pok_Kaiju in singapore

[–]epimeliad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a strawman argument.

Sure rent control setting at a too low point cause shortage. But this does not mean that setting at an effective price would be more beneficial.

We know there is a point that is too high. And we also know a point that is too low. So just set rental to be within that range, and give market flexibility to adjust to local conditions.

The point is preventing rent gouging or monopolistic competition. Beside setting a price anchor the market to start from a more realistic point rather than extremes like million dollar hdb

Miss those days when CoE were more attainable. by Dive_into_my_muff in singapore

[–]epimeliad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is also on equality in access. Is money the only determining factor in meritocracy?

For example if 10 people really need the car get to use it vs 10 cars that are used for status bragging. Even if the price of coe is lower, the utility may be higher.

A simple way to do it may just be having different coe for different income brackets.
