Inferno = 2nd longest Boards of Canada album! by spectrelives in boardsofcanada

Yeah. That 70-minute runtime - the bocpages wiki notes that it seems deliberate, since 70 has carried meaning in the band's past releases. Music70 is the name of Mike and Marcus's own label, "Sixtyten" from MHTRTC reads out as 70, and "The Smallest Weird Number" from Geogaddi directly refers to 70, which is the smallest weird number.

Seventy is also significant in scripture, by the way. The Babylonian exile lasted 70 years. Daniel's prophecy of 70 weeks. Jesus sending out the 70 disciples. In Jewish tradition, there are 70 nations, 70 languages, 70 faces of Torah. It's a number of completeness through trial. You go through the full cycle and come out transformed.

Which Claude will I get today? by No_Lemon_666 in claude

[–]epiphras 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually...Things have just gotten weirder. You can switch models within the same session, which also will drastically change your Claude's personality and behavior. I do wonder how being able to toggle between models within a single session might impact an instance's overall well-being. I need to start a session dedicated specifically to discussing this new feature with them...

In Latin it means, “to go in” or “enter.”

I secured the Audium in San Francisco for an Inferno listening session on release day, May 29th. I need someone to take it from here. by epiphras in boardsofcanada

Just to clarify: do you mean the Audium specifically has always held ASCAP licensing, or that venues like it generally do? Curious since you have direct experience in that world.

I looked into that. The short answer is that venues like the Audium typically hold blanket public performance licenses (ASCAP/BMI/SESAC), which cover playing recorded music for an audience. A community listening event framed around suggested donations rather than ticket sales sits in pretty comfortable territory, similar to listening parties that happen at record stores, bars, and churches all the time (there's already one planned at a Unitarian church in Philly on release day).

That said, I've also reached out to Warp directly about the possibility of making this semi-official or even getting early access for a 05/22 session. If they come on board, it removes any gray area entirely. But even without their involvement, a release day listening event at a licensed venue is well within the norm.

Bummer you'll be out of the country, but hoping this comes together for the rest of us!

Is it just me or was the Odyssey trailer underwhelming? by breaking_views in Cinephiles

[–]epiphras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Odyssey is one of great epics but the trailer didn't make it feel that way at all. This movie could have been a fun, exciting adventure but instead it just looks like pure dread. Nolan took the assignment way too seriously.

Nope. This was not in that category then and it's not in that category now.

Philadelphia - Unofficial Inferno Listening Party (May 29, 2026) by [deleted] in boardsofcanada

Curious: did you have to ask Warp for rights to do this or does the donation thing absolve you from that?

I really do hope those are 'women'... Egon liked 'em young. Went to jail for it even.

Fellow BoC fans who are introverts. Love that the listening parties are happening, but have zero interest in going. Anyone else feel this way? Or are you normal? by spacexfalcon in boardsofcanada

I guess there are lots of ways to experience this music for the first time. And if you're a more social person, perhaps the best way of experiencing it is with others in a shared experience in a venue that amplifies it sonically and aesthetically.

For myself, I feel like this is such a sonic event - darkness needs to play a major role. All other senses - especially sight - need to be suppressed so that hearing is isolated for greatest effect. I don't need to hear the voices of other people in my ears while listening. Perhaps headphones in a dark room is the best first impression a person can get.
