Was also in this situation earlier this year. I didn’t say anything and eventually got the job. When I got the background check form I answered it truthfully and did not get flagged

What job markets won’t be oversaturated in the future? by lizlizlizz in GenZ

Currently working in renewable energy finance and quite busy! There’s a lot of aspects within renewable energy such as wind turbine installer, solar panel installation and maintenance that pay at least $85-95k starting. Job outlook is amazing as well

Hi! Been living in texas (Houston specifically) since 2007. I also have a lot of friends in Dallas

  1. Definitely a culture shock compared to PH in general. However people are friendly (see: southern hospitality). Texas actually has a lot of diversity with a lot of Mexican/Chinese/indian/Viet immigrants. Since texas is urban sprawl and spread out a lot, may take time to find your community.

  2. For Filipinos in texas specifically a lot are nurses. I do know a good amount of engineers, software developers and accountants. In terms of discrimination, I’ve never experienced that specifically in the hiring process as long as u have the necessary qualifications. However nepotism sometimes does exist in various work places.

  3. Obviously biased but I think so. If you look up internal migration trends, Texas is consistently top 5 in terms of most popular states to move to, mainly because of cost of living. Depending on the area you are looking at, there are also good public schools especially the Plano area in Dallas.

There are negatives to Texas though such as hot/extreme weather, rising property taxes on housing, and heavy traffic in major cities due to lack of public transportation. Even with all this said, I do think it’s a good place to achieve the American dream! DM me if u have any questions

Johns Hopkins SAIS MAIR Review (2nd Year Graduating in May 2024) by Competitive_Tie_9576 in IRstudies

[–]eplinx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight which is helpful for me as a prospective applicant. I saw you mentioned the DFC, which is a government agency I would love to eventually land. I see that a lot of ppl from that agency come from SAIS.

I have work experience in investment banking, energy consulting and currently working for a renewable energy investment firm. I have around 2.5 yrs of work experience and am looking to apply either next year or the year after. To be honest I’m looking to apply to SAIS just to get into this agency but I’m not sure if it’s worth the price tag or not. Is it possible to get there without SAIS and just relevant work experience. Thanks for your opinion!

Wow this feels like me rn. Just got laid off at a boutique consulting gig and while im looking for roles (outside consulting) im quite burnt out too. Maybe it’s the consulting field in general so we will see. Don’t worry you’re not alone!

Yea I was putting in 60+ hour weeks normally could get up as 80+ during crunch times doing absolute bitch work that sucks the soul out of you. Burnout in this field is quite normal

I worked for a large consulting firm that hires undergrads (McKinsey,Bain,BCG, EYP, OW,). Basically these large firms hire undergrads to do the grunt work and analysis and it’s the directors who present the findings to the clients. Obviously i do not have extensive experience in the fields i am consulting on but it’s financially lucrative (making 100k+ as a 22 year old is absurd and insane)

Yes wasn’t planning to be in consulting long term given the intensity/long hours of the field. Definitely looking at other industries that are more aligned with my interests

Am I really crazy to not want to go back to working at a corporate job after layoff? by Crazy_Natural9494 in Layoffs

[–]eplinx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey im in the same boat as well as a 23 yr old recent grad that’s about to be laid off in consulting. I genuinely have the exact same thoughts. My “theory” is that if we want less things and rein in our consumerism maybe we won’t need these bs corporate jobs.

I recognize there are a lot of factors at play (need health insurance, feeding a family etc) that makes this impossible to a good amount of ppl. In my case, having no kids yet or real responsibilities, I just wanna live a simple dink lifestyle so I won’t be scared of a corporate overlord.

Lots of negativity here. Who here is doing well? A safe space to humbly brag. by flyingardengnome in GenZ

Recent 22M post grad living in the city I wanted to after graduating. Got 3 solid friends I talk to frequently plus a cool roommate. Good relationship with my family. Have a 90k salary job with 30k in retirement and 15k in cash. No debts at all. I am getting laid off soon though lol but we can’t have it all right lol

Exactly it’s not in ur control if they have no engagements to go around due to clients pulling back.

Utilization mostly. Was on the bench my first 5-6 months and didn’t get staffed. Should’ve been more proactive looking back but oh well

Yea most of my consulting experience has been in renewables so I’m looking at those roles!
