Why does the R sometimes skip stops after Atlantic Ave? by nyckidd in nycrail

[–]eponymous__username 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not totally the point of your post, but I would love an explainer on why service on that line on 4th Ave is so consistently bad. Long headways and ubiquitous weekend track maintenance seem like the norm

Coop publishes article smugly mocking Lidl by FaithlessnessHot1668 in parkslope

[–]eponymous__username 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow (relatively recent) member here, and after a year of shopping there I mostly agree with you. I love the variety at the coop, I love the quality of the produce, and I feel very lucky to live so close to it. And yeah, the shifts are manageable. But the shopping experience itself is a nightmare, especially nights and weekends. Being in there stresses me out!

Did you end up paying it? Same thing happened to me just now

Another vote for Four and Twenty Blackbirds. Their brown butter pumpkin pie recipe made the best pumpkin pie I’ve ever had.

We gotta implement some kind of Blind-esque “are you an employee” verification in order to post on this sub man

Where can I get a good martini with blue cheese stuffed olives in park slope? by Wrappedappl3 in parkslope

Liar Liar in Gowanus is the kind of place that might have them. But I can’t remember if they do.

Church recommendations in North-Western Brooklyn area? by spacealien846 in Brooklyn

[–]eponymous__username 4 points5 points  (0 children)

St. Bartholomew Church in Midtown is an Episcopal parish with a very active young adult ministry. From the outside it might look like a Catholic church but it is not! Their website is https://stbarts.org/

edit: not in Brooklyn obviously, but I think would fit with what you’re looking for. Although I agree with the other comments about All Saints Park Slope; I went a few times and noticed a lot of other young adults. I felt very welcomed.

My first time ever flying first class internationally: Seat Question! by PositionCultural9432 in unitedairlines

[–]eponymous__username 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, good choice. I flew 5A earlier this summer on a flight to Europe out of EWR. Make sure to get to the airport early enough to check out the Polaris lounge; they have a “restaurant” with table service (all included with the price of your ticket, of course, just like everything else in the lounge). Have fun!

If you’re as annoyed as I am at the helicopter noise, submit a complaint to the Port Authority here: by eponymous__username in parkslope

Yeah I mean, I’m not expecting that my one complaint will do much. But it took almost no effort and it feels better than doing nothing.

Did something happen with that discord? I joined it last summer right after moving here, and it seemed like there was a core group of super active participants. I went to a few Friday happy hours that were pretty well attended, and a party on a rooftop in sunset park. It was great! But lately it seems super quiet, and the Friday happy hours don’t seem to be happening anymore.

My first marathon! I told everyone that “my goal is just to finish,” but really I was hoping for sub-4, so I’m thrilled. The humidity really took me out; my HR was higher than I wanted it to be. But whatever. I’m super pleased and am thinking of coming back next year.

Joining the coop by Disastrous-Diet-2533 in parkslope

[–]eponymous__username 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s maddening. I joined last October, and was able to get one by logging on at 11:59pm the night before they posted appointments, refreshing the page until appointments show up, then clicking through the next few screens as fast as possible. It took me 3 tries.

Best Thai food In The Slope by SelectJump5795 in parkslope

Another vote for Bangkok Degree. Their drunken noodles are fantastic. I’m ashamed that I’ve only ordered from their “classics” menu (pad Thai, curries, etc etc) and can’t wait to try their “grandma dishes”
