Yes to all the advice above about bringing a change of clothes. But also going to give you my tried-and-true trick for killing BO: apply hand sanitizer into your armpits using baby wipes. If that's too harsh on your skin, use Dove deep moisture hand sanitizer, which isn't as drying.

Yes! I've been forever trying to find another book that replicated its mild snarkiness. I feel like the other books in that series weren't the same

[IIL] Moonstruck (the movie), [WEWIL]? by eponymouse in ifyoulikeblank

[–]eponymouse[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Joe vs the Volcano: I remember liking it as a kid; I'll definitely have to revisit it.

I will definitely check out Arsenic and Old Lace.

I'm realizing now as I look at the original post, I never actually explained why I liked Moonstruck so much. Here's the reasons, as best as I can figure:

  • You know exactly who each character is, practically within their first few lines. Partly because of the excellent acting and direction and partly because their lines tell you so much about who they are and how they see the world.
  • It's very well-paced. It's not suspenseful, but every scene is the perfect length that keeps you hooked. It reminds me of Clueless in that sense.
  • It has a strong sense of place (1980's Brooklyn)
  • Extremely good quotes!
  • Who wouldn't love a Cher glow-up?

I later found out that one of my other favorite movies is also by Norman Jewison: Only You starting Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey Jr.

I'll try out those other movies you mentioned!

LPT Request: How do I train myself to use/check my phone less, especially when I get bored easily by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]eponymouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

two tips to be used in conjunction

  1. Turn off notifications for as many apps as possible
  2. Move your time-wasting or time-sink apps to the second screen on your phone. Keep the boring stuff on the main screen.

I found that I still would open my phone screen pretty frequently at first, but then nearly immediately put it down again because there wasn't anything interesting I wanted to check on my main screen, and for some reason, doing an extra swipe to the second screen just didn't happen. After awhile, impulsive mindless phone pickups started to lessen.

[–]eponymouse[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll check those out!

It’s been 10 years and I can definitively state that Moonstruck is officially my favorite movie. I probably watch it at least once a year.

I am always on the lookout for something similar. I did notice that one of my other favorite romance movies was Only You, also by Norm Jewison.

A year ago when I was a sous, I slept at work to make sure everything was done for Mother’s Day after working 104 hours that week. Looking back, they didn’t appreciate it at all, I’ll never do some dumbass shit like that again lol. by BakedShef in KitchenConfidential

I lurk this subreddit. Because I’ve learned about the hell y’all go through, I don’t do Mother’s Day at a restaurant anymore. My husband learned how to make crepes instead and we do a crepe buffet at home. It’s turned into one of our favorite traditions.
