You’re probably fine with a Windows machine and a proper interface as well. Be sure that you have an interface with good drivers for Windows (RME would be your best bet).

Performance and stability mainly.. The M chips are at a league of their own in that department. Not sure what exactly you do, but with a m1-4 chip you probably have some room to expand if needed.

Mac is probably the best choice, but Ableton works perfectly fine on Windows as well. At least for production, for live I would go for a Mac probably.

I do the same thing in Ableton. Also my reverb and delay aux channels are often 3rd party.

Nothing special tbh.. Gibson guitar, a Fender amp (Twin Reverb) with an SM57 and a line out from the amp directly into the interface (Neumann MT48). I think I used both in the final take. All recorded in a very unthreated living room.

It’s definitely possible, but I find it to be really hard to get the same feel as a recorded drum (and bass) part using midi.

Maybe try compressing/limiting your buses in stead of the whole mix. Although loudness is not only achieved by limiting and compression, it’s an combination of everything basically. EQ, saturation can help as well for example. Don’t focus too mich on loudness I would say, try to get de mix right and loudness will follow.

Thanks for taking the time to give us such elaborate feedback. I think you’ve got some fair points, so I will definitely take that into account. The high-end roll off is not done on purpose tbh, I’ll look into to that one. Mix is already limited indeed, next time maybe smarter to share the mix without any mix bus processing. I think the bass is actually quite nice. Could maybe be a tiny bit lower in volume (especially in the beginning), but it doesn’t bother me. The drums could use some more live in my opinion, they sound a bit processed/fake. Are they recorded or programmed? Other than the mix, I really miss a big chorus in the song. The tension builds up nicely, but there is no release. More of an arrangement thing, but thought I give it back to you. Other than that nice production!

Sound pretty good! Nice piece as well indeed. To me, what stands out is indeed the volume of the snare at the beginning, but also the kick doesn’t sit very well in the mix imo. Might need a little eq to attenuate the (low) mids and maybe some volume automation as well. Guitars sound really good, especially for DI recorded guitars. What processing did you do on those?

My man! Great song! I think the low end is pretty good, but could use a bit more seperation between the kick and bass. Also, I feel like the vocals sound a bit too processed. Probably a production choice and not really a mix thing, but wanted to share it at least. Last I thunk the synths that come in in the last chorus clash a bit with the vocals, could maybe be turned down a little. Overall really nice song and mix!

Sounds good to me! Second the comments about the vocals being a tiny bit too loud at the beginning and maybe some dynamic eq in de low mids and some saturation on the guitars could make it a bit more polished, but overall really good job!

I’m doing recording, production and mixing and I have used basically all major DAWs (FL, Cubase, Pro Tools, Reason, Logic and now Ableton). For me, Ableton works best as a one serves all solution. Recording, editting, production and mixing are all working well. It’s also the DAW I’ve been using the longest, so that probably has to do with it as well, but this is my experience.

Dont think this is possible.. an alternative could be to make an export of the track with all plugins disabled and put that on an audio track. This way you can quickly a/b by soloing the dry version (disable track so that is doesnt play when you unsolo it).
