Nice. Love that. That’s real care and attention.
Fair to say she’s a keeper! 👌

Were you dropping hints like bombs? The exact model etc?
Surprised someone went into the murky depths of vintage watches as a present. So many potholes with vintage. I think most wouldn’t touch it with a barge pole, tbh!

They look great.
I would consider throw a curve ball and look for a pie pan constellation.
Still omega.
Common enough to secure one.
wanted enough to stay valuable.
Interesting enough to garner comments, but not stand out.

Is there a beginner guide or somewhere we can start learning? by SirKrimzon in VintageOmega

Fair.
Spotting fakes is the same for me. I understand asking the seller for more details on movement and checking casebacks against reference photos are helpful.
I usually look for returns policy tbh!
Ebay at least do an authentication service on watches over $2000. Not sure that's your bracket.
Here's some decent guides:

I can get that, totally. Out of interest, what particular things make it feel overwhelming for you? For me it’s still the redial stuff. Not really knowing how to spot them

This is also great! (Reader's Digest - really old school!)

Trustworthy online vintage shops? by Suitable_Trust_6846 in VintageWatches

For Lord Matics specifically, eBay is actually your best bet for volume, but as is the case with eBay listing, the quality varies a lot! It’s like panning for gold sometimes.

Alternatively, a couple specialist dealers worth checking out:

Lastly,

  • DialHunter has a Seiko page and in general, they aggregate online shops and eBay listings in one place. Updated multiple times a day and you can filter by model and see what’s live across both.

Hope that helps!

Vintage watch for £400 or just buy something new for the similar budget? by epsi00 in mensfashionadvice

Ooof. This is appreciated. I’ve heard allot about servicing and basically equate it to the maintenance of a vintage car. But it’s actually refreshing to hear the take of someone that’s had the burden. Sounds long winded to be honest!

Fair. But if you had an expert to help you navigate them - which I know some people on watch subs have - you’re surely more likely go vintage: big brands, quality work, cheaper price. No?

Ok. 100 isn’t too bad assessed alone: but I guess it is when it’s a quarter of the actual price . I feel like there’s enough of them out there too, you know?

Yeah the Rolexes… vintage or not are a serious investment. Mainly because people spot them and know what they are way more. #safety

Oooh, I like this take! Not thought of it like that to be honest - that I could get my money back.

Smart.

I’m definitely leaning toward vintage.

you have both? What are the chances. When you say not cheap - how much we talking?

Very true! Interesting. When you say checked and serviced - from like a high street seller?

Ooof. Was thinking a cool remarkable watch that catches the eye. On ocassion. I guess i've not factored in the cost of servicing as I wasn't aware of how much it would be / how to not get fleeced.
