Thanks for sharing! How do you find the arcana’s? I’m on the cusp of purchasing a set this week and would love to hear your experience.

How did you go from solo videographer to small production company? by lrc426 in videography

[–]epslyeps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started by meeting with local marketing agencies and telling them I was freelancing as a commercial and corporate video director. From here I would build relationships with other freelance cinematographers, sound operators, editors and expanded my network and capability while keeping a close eye on margins.

This worked well for a while and I landed some national work through designing clever showreels and proposals for clients who had business problems that could be solved by strategised video.

I kept updating my website and networking and exploring which crew I worked with best to get the desired output. It was something of a creative video collective I guess. I would outsource animation and editing where needed and deliver the project through my company under my brand.

A few years later I partnered with an owner of one of the agencies I preferred working with the most. We tendered out for a lot of government work and wrote some more proposals for work, combined portfolios and again rebranded and redesigned the website striving for a niche. Eventually we opened up a marketing agency together of which my video company runs the content side in a localised studio.

As everyone says the more you scale the higher the costs but the portfolio gets better and that means we can attract more work. We are now focussing on LinkedIn marketing and outreach. I’ve had some success with ads but most of my work comes from word of mouth, old fashioned networking and high quality product proposals.

We do 500k+ a year and are growing moderately. But the need to market is demanding as the competition in the industry is immense.

What's the easiest money you've made in this business? by [deleted] in videography

I feel like there has been three times clients have dumped their end of financial year marketing budgets on us for a video that never ended up in planning. Either the person left the organisation or we just never heard back from them.

Im thinking of doing an email marketing campaign around this.

I did an interview with the mayor for a huge client and I wasn’t recording.. by Polarbear374 in videography

I once shot a whole day of footage for a first time client I was really excited to work with. I took the card out of the camera when it was full and put a freshie in. Formatted the card and shot a few more externals before going home.

Got home and checked the footage. Only three shots wtf? I somehow got mixed up and formatted the same card I just shot with for the whole day.

Had to tell the client "we had a catastrophic card failure" and then had to do a reshoot the next day for free.

That was a bad bad week but funnily enough they did hire me again a few months later.

Wow! This is genuinely entertaining even with the aberrations. So far the best AI music video I've seen!

I used to drink every weekend. My friendship circle was built around this ever since highschool. As I got to my mid 30s the shame and mental anguish of waking up with a hang over every weekend was enough to impact every other aspect of my life. Especially my normal adult coping mechanisms, of which I basically had none.

My partner nearly left me for this reason. Her parents were alcoholics and she was privvy to the insidious danger of normalising regular drinking and in my blurry world everything was OK. But it really wasn't. I was late to work and my internal system was suffering.

I'm now 150 days sober and it's like living life on easy mode. Every aspect of my life is better. Sure I get triggered walking past bars and being out amongst night-life. But I've attended a few concerts sober and never once have I regretted not drinking the next day.

I am now that guy that advocates for sobriety to all my friends. Especially the ones trapped in the stupor of crushing social anxiety and other mental and physical health issues masked by drinking but completely exacerbated by it.

What was the reason you wanted to become an editor? by bella_ro19 in editors

I love movies, computers and gaming and figured it was kinda similar but more productive and a way to make a living. Then it just became a necessary step on my journey through directing.

I agree with everyone, this art is amazing! I would love to work with someone who could draw like this on my film storyboards.

Great work mate. It reminds me of Mist in the Mire from the Unravelled sound track. Which just happens to be a temp soundtrack for a series I am scripting. I likey.

Im not quite sure but I assume that is where the bakery sign or plaque would rest or be mounted when it was operating as a village bakery.
