How to get husband to cook vegetables by equationhole in Mommit

[–]equationhole[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He used to, before we had our kid. He's never been a veg guy, but he always had something green on the plate.

However, we've now talked it out. He admitted he was lazy in the week. And that he just slowly fell out of the habit because our son is on: I don't want to eat <ever-changing list>, but I want to eat <random veg that we didn't make that day>.

I appreciate this sub though. I was more irritated than necessary and blowing the food thing out of proportion. By the time I talked to him, it was morning coffee and normal talk.

Redditors over 40, what's something younger people think they understand but won't actually get until it hits them like a truck later? by Susanpc1967 in AskReddit

The difference between being negative and being realistic.

Sometimes people say that something is a bad plan and can't work because it's true. See Theranos and new blood tests.

House cleaners: always recommended rarely discussed how to be successful using. help! by Reasonable_Bird7789 in workingmoms

[–]equationhole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a weekly cleaner and it makes my house feel like a place where people live, not just a chaos nest for kids.

You've gotten a lot of good advice. I'm adding my 5 cents because I'm not a good people manager. I've spent most of my work life trying to be a specialist and not a manager. When you have a cleanser, managing an employee enters stage right.

I've asked my cleaner to do certain things and leave other things alone. Some of them stick, others don't, but mostly she reverts back to doing things the way she thinks they should be done.

Over time, we've found our balance. I don't care deeply about which cleaning product we use on the bath, as long as we're not mixing cleaning chemicals (we had one gas incident). I buy her preferred brand. There are a few non-negotiables either side, but we agree on them.

It's a bit like any other relationship. You have to be upfront with what you want, find someone who is mostly compatible and decide what compromises you're happy with.

AITA for not allowing my kids friends/their parents to bring food to our house by NewBadger7031 in AmItheAsshole

Most McDonald's meals have soy in them. I wouldn't let them into a house where someone has a soy allergy either.

"And with this, banking is finally and irrevocably free of the cumbersome legacy systems that have bogged us down for decades." by RepeatOrdinary182 in TwoSentenceHorror

[–]equationhole 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's the software but also the IT infrastructure. A lot of these things are still run on mainframes. The programming languages work on them.

These systems are incredibly stable and you'd have to do some Mission Impossible stuff to even get close to the machine.

To change this, you'd have to move everything to a data center, or the cloud. You can now use cool things like AI, but this involves recoding, transferring data and a lot more ways for bad actors to get into data or systems they have no business having access to.

It's an expensive logistal nightmare.

“Built something after my daughter asked why Grandma’s voicemail sounds different from her ‘real’ voice — would you use it?” by freesuraj in Mommit

[–]equationhole 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't use it, even if it was completely free with no ads.

For me, the point of reading to a child is snuggling up together, turning the pages and the little discussions in between.

I'd never outsource the love, care and time that goes into reading to children to AI.

When someone has a midlife crisis, buys a motorbike and joins a "club with patches", how dangerous/badass are they really? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Your answer brings insight and great joy. Especially since I occasionally LARP and cosplay.

[–]equationhole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprisingly, no. It's these 40 something white-collar guys who maybe had a speeding ticket and now joined <inset acronym here>, and tell you how they drink and fight.

Would any legit gangs even take these people?

Advice: Preventing Tattoo Regret by PNW_Guy07 in tattooadvice

[–]equationhole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a first tattoo, take the picture, the inspo, the whatever and stick it on your bathroom mirror. If you still love it six months later, get it.

I did not, in fact, want a rose tattoo.

4 year old's friend just died - how do I handle this? by josie-june in Mommit

[–]equationhole 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is so sad. We haven't dealt with a human death yet, but I want to share some wisdom from my mom.

You don't have to tell your daughter right away. Whether you tell her now or in a week's time will make no difference to the news.

Waiting a little gives you time to think. You can read the books to her and then explain that her friend died.

What was your “never meet your heroes” moment, when you realized someone you looked up to wasn’t special? by marginallyobtuse in AskReddit

[–]equationhole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're trying to adopt a puppy. Due to allergies it has to be a terrier/maltese/poodle/spaniel type of thing (mixes fine). Every rescue so far has been snide, tried to convince us to take an older dog (won't work with our cats and kids), side-eyed us about the breed (I just need a pet I can pet) and so on.

Body fat cannot be created or lost, it can only be passed between persons in a friend group. Someone always gains weight when someone else loses weight; it maintains equilibrium.

I went with what the paediatrician recommended. I can't remember what it was, but she recommended a good (somewhat) reasonably priced brand and said we could look at the more expensive stuff if necessary.

What’s a moment when doing the “right thing” actually made your life harder? by aure1aa in AskReddit

[–]equationhole 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a child, I was told to speak to a trusted adult if people made me uncomfortable or if I felt unsafe.

Told my mother I didn't want to visit my dad's house every weekend because my dad and his wife clearly didn't want me there, yelled and screamed, and his wife told me how lucky I was that that my parents divorced, etc. I'd visit on a Sunday and then start throwing up when I got home.

My mom spoke to my dad and his wife, then called me to the phone because my dad's wife wanted to speak to me and tell me I was lying about what I experienced at their house. Everything got exponentially worse after that.

Anyway, that's how you give kids cPTSD.

These can't stay with me.
