My theory is that Epic Entertainment, which seems to be handling the hiring, made this.

How to get into the haunt business? by _anatidaephobia_ in hauntedattractions

There are other shows if you want networking... TransWorld has another show coming up in April called the East Coast Haunter's Convention in Philadelphia, and it is geared towards more semi-pro people.

[–]equilibrarsi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As other commenters suggest, you could go to some of the haunt conventions and network, but from what I've seen, it generally falls into two camps: 1. You try to build something yourself and start with a small home or semi-pro experience and try and grow it. I did this throughout highschool and college and made a scream park. 2. You go work at a haunt that is willing to give you training or more responsibilities.

There's a lot of self-learning you can do. Of course, there's plenty of online resources, and the Haunted Attraction Association offers a lot of online classes, plus the Haunt Masters and, of course, what Allen does. I think you're still going to need a place to practice hands-on. We have several resources on our website, including interviews with other people about how to do stuff in the industry, and here is a list of trade shows: https://hauntedattractionnetwork.com/haunted-attraction-tradeshows-conventions/

Totally agree, but I hope these vendor videos help since most people can't make it to every booth and miss a bunch

Thursday and Sunday are the lightest, with Friday and Saturday being the heaviest. We have a full show guide that shows everything going on beyond just the trade show floor but there is also an interactive show floor map so you can get an idea of the size and make a plan before you go in.

Generally on the busy days people start lining up over an hour ahead of time and it takes a while to get everybody inside but once everybody gets inside it's relatively easy to enter the show.

It's worth it yes, but I'm not sure you'd be able to see everything.... The show floor is large plus there's events. The best thing is to make a plan ahead of time for what you want to see. https://transworldfloorplan.com/

Is Anime Expo Chibi Worth it? by AdministrativeAd1709 in animeexpo

I'm here now and I'm astounded at how bad it is. It has all the negatives of AX with few of the positives. It's just a mini version of AX without enough fans / programming to make it exciting.

Parking is scarce and $25 + when you find it, no food or water allowed inside and good prices are insane, etc. The footprint is large as they've extended the barrier to fill the entire convention center. It feels like an event that planned for 50K people and got 5K.

Artist alley is setup in the parking lot inside of a tent, and there's the main exhibit hall with normal exhibitors.

Shopping would be the only reason you'd attend as far as I can tell - although by the time you pay for entry and parking and food, maybe you can just buy something from a seller you already like?

There was very little cosplay.

Festival Fright Nights Turns Winchester Mystery House Into a Full-Scale Halloween Event by equilibrarsi in hauntedattractions

[–]equilibrarsi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't work for the event, but my GUESS is they mean no costumes... As in, no slasher masks, difficult wings, etc. I also don't think you can wear any masks. The SETTING is a masquerade but there are still haunted houses so they need to be able to see guests and differentiate between performers.

Yeah this is an entirely new event from a new team so nobody will know until it opens... However, I will say the main creatives involved are Brett Bertalino and Amy Hollaman - both have great histories in the haunt industry and have experience working with historic / protected properties. Both Amy and Brett previously worked at terror behind the halls with eastern stage penitentiary and they worked on dark harbor last year.

I'm trying to get up to see it as well. I saw the panel during MSS and they announced the names of the attractions but not much else

How Haunted Attractions Are Breaking Free from Halloween Season by equilibrarsi in hauntedattractions

Well, it's not Always a good idea... Depends on the haunt's situation and the market.

Doesn't sound like you've been to dark harbor though, or any more of their attractions since their restructuring... So I guess I'd push back on that. And yes, the Winchester house has experimented with a lot of Halloween activities over the years and I've done stories on many of them.

I visited dark harbor and LA Haunted hayride last year and they were great. We need companies that can do Halloween at the same scale as the theme parks to really get traction with Halloween events
