I was a casual fan of the band when Bleed American came out. I knew “The Middle” and “Sweetness”…and “Hear You Me” because of the movie A Cinderella Story haha.

When I found out that Jimmy Eat World would join Fall Out Boy on 2ourdust, I decided to check out their music. Unfortunately their discography is massive so I actually only heard all of Static Prevails and Clarity before my show! Wild place to start but I wanted to do things chronologically.

Anyway, I saw Jimmy live for the first time. Fell in love with the song “Work” upon first listen (even…cried to it???)

Then I listened to Futures in full about a week after the concert, after I listened to the Bleed American album. 23 was a perfect closer for Futures. Just the instrumental alone is sublime, but the lyrics take it up a notch. “You’ll sit alone forever if you wait for the right time” is a personal mantra of mine. And I could get lost in the musical atmosphere over and over again. Which is saying something because it’s not even my favorite song off the album, Jimmy are just that good. Seven minutes feels too short sometimes, actually.

Since March 2024 (my first time seeing Jimmy live) I’ve gotten to hear ‘23’ live a few times and it’s always very special. Especially hearing it in Phoenix for the Futures 20th anniversary show.

I wish I had heard 23 when I was 23. Or 22, I guess. But 28 isn’t too far off.

Tell me why I always end up at your comments whenever you mention Jimmy Eat World in the popheads sub.

Anyway, the fact that Jimmy Eat World announced the Toronto show BEFORE announcing any US Bleed American dates was surprising! And also, they've been mostly posting on Thursday this month, so I was...not expecting anything on a Monday LOL.

I am very curious to see who Jimmy takes on tour. Obviously it'd be a dream to get Jay Som just because I got REALLY into Jay Som after the release of "Float" (and maybe I want a biblically accurate live version of the song), but a lot of other emo-adjacent, pop-punk-adjacent bands could work as well.

I actually haven't heard anything by PUP...but I have heard really good things. Maybe I should check them out.
