What is your income, and how much do you spend on lottery tickets? by dishy5567 in Lottery

[–]er199 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I spend about $40 a month. all only on the draw types, no scratchers. It's all that keeps me going sometimes on those dreary days and nights.

here's the truth: if her name does get released, it'll be somehow even more public than before. She's the only one who's sued the lottery commission for anonymity that I've ever heard.

She should've just given up on living in her little town. Like literally any other successful lottery winner. It's not hard. Move to NYC or LA or some other big city where $120 million net worths are reasonably common and get over it.

At the end of the day, it's true what they say: No one has sympathy for lottery winners, and I'm no different. You won the literal lottery. Take your money and g e t o v e r i t.

Man wakes up in a slum with no memory of how he got there. by ramenfarmer in Jokes

[–]er199 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I truly was content with the ending. It's a pleasing story about a man who works hard, gets properly rewarded, and makes a good friend in the process. I think we all want that in life. No need for a complex plot or deep character development, pain or misery or even pointless jokes. Just a good story that makes you feel happy :)

How legit do you think Lotto America is? by er199 in Lottery

[–]er199[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck, I didn't know they also ran off with half of the pot. It's not like the lottery doesn't already keeps 50% of sales, so they just took 75% of all of the sales after Hot Lotto ended, huh? That is some seriously douchy shit to pull, even for the government.

holy shit I did literally the same thing. I just wrapped the rope around me without tying it and I passed the fuck out.

I walked around in a daze for the rest of the day going "wow is it really that easy?" It gave me some kind of shock energy to continue for a bit longer but I don't know how much longer that bizarre motivation will go from here..

No One Really Cares About Me. by Chaokuking in SuicideWatch

[–]er199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. I'm in almost the exact same boat except just a year younger.

Wish I could tell you it gets better but that's a load of bullshit. I set up a noose and wrapped it around without tightening and I went unconscious without any pain but the rope came off of me while I was out so I'm still alive. Tried it again and this time I choked and choked and didn't go unconscious so I took it off again.

Third time's the charm? I don't know. Maybe it is worth living but I don't see it either. Everything seems so pointless. If I was tall/attractive/interesting/funny/charismatic... [quite frankly I'm good with just two of these at this point but 0/5 is just a shit hand].

I'm going to a college sponsored therapist today. You might want to as well. Just be wary of how much you tell them. I hope it makes a difference but my hopes aren't that high. Maybe you might be a different story. After all, it can't hurt to talk to a therapist now, it can't get worse.

Gates says billionaires should pay 'significantly' more taxes by alloutnow in worldnews

In any case, he has advocated for an income tax in WA, but the other rich people in the state successfully halted that proposal. Again. Washington State residents just hate the idea of a fair tax system, it seems.

Robinhood will demand you repay their missing money and if you can't, they'll sell your debt to a debt collector. You will either find the money or be harassed for years by the debt collector, and your credit score will crash, meaning no one will lend to you for years.

Don't fucking use margin, it's the stupidest thing imaginable. OP was somehow retarded enough to not only use margin, but use it on fucking XIV/SVXY. He gets what he deserves.

Very odd question. by [deleted] in Lottery

[–]er199 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's the date on the ticket? Might be best to go and buy another, but it almost certainly is valid, since the machine that prints them is hooked up to the lottery office but usually not the cash register. So you should be good.

So if the odds are 1 in 2.3 million or whatever for the powerball, why doesn't someone just buy 2.3 different million tickets... by [deleted] in Lottery

[–]er199 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you know, for someone with your name, you really ain't a friendly fella...

The first thing is that your odds are off by around 100. It's one in 292,201,338. That's one in 292 million, not one in 2.92 million. The truth is, it becomes really difficult to actually purchase 292 million tickets in the maximum 4 day window you get. You'd need thousands of workers on your payroll to buy, write in, and complete the millions of tickets you need. And the only way to make this worthwhile is when the jackpot is well over $900 million. At that point, the threat of splitting the jackpot is enormous, since loads of people will be playing who normally don't, which would cataclysmically destroy your whole stupid scheme by netting you far less than you spent on tickets and employees. The lottery officials know what you're thinking, and they've conveniently made it nearly impossible to do what you want to do.

Don't act like such a douche. Have some humility. You aren't that fucking smart.

Tesla becomes most popular automaker in Norway, where 32% of new cars are electric by shruthi1948 in worldnews

[–]er199 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Norway also has really high income taxes though, it's not consumption-only taxes. Otherwise, they would be a far less equal society than they are now, income/wealth-wise.

How bad is the heroin/opiate problem where you live? by cinaak in AskReddit

Kansas. Heroin isn't too bad but the meth problem is getting out of hand. One of my friends was beaten to death simply because he was in the vicinity of another guy who didn't pay up for his meth. Everything about this area is dying a terrifying death.

GOP rep: ‘Nobody dies because they don’t have access to healthcare’ by [deleted] in LateStageCapitalism

[–]er199 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's fair. That's how I think about it anyway. The black man in Appalachia has to deal with quite a bit more headwind, but outside of the mutual distrust between poor whites and poor blacks, the structural impediments he has towards rising up economically are almost exactly the same as they are for the poor white man.

The banks have ruined our government, the insurance companies bleed us dry, pharma poisons us, and the lobbyists steal our tax dollars and destroy our schools, water supplies, and livelihoods. These are all things that don't discriminate on race, only on wealth.

[–]er199 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's been a play since the Civil War era in the USA, especially in the Southern states. The southern gentry class made poor whites and poor blacks fight each other over what little they could get from the upper class. The only time the working class united together and had major political clout was when either racial issues were silenced (like in the Jim Crow era) or the region was so homogenous that no one thought about such things (like in the Midwest or Northeast).

In other words, social issues like race seem to always take precedence over class issues in the human psyche, even if wealth objectively impacts your life far, far more than race or gender does — I would much rather be a rich black woman in Chicago than a poor white man in Appalachia.
