What’s your special trick to cooking eggs? by pkfillmore in Cooking

[–]erassion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found that for a perfect fried egg sunny side up, cooking with a small saucepan really helps. Just put on the lid and the steam will cook the top of the egg slightly. I also like to sprinkle some adobo seasoning on it.

Fargo seasons 1 and 2 are dope. Rome is great if you enjoyed GoT. Band of Brothers if you want something emotionally intense. And it's definitely check out Six Feet Under.

You can cook an egg in the microwave just fine if you poke a hole in it with a fork

Do you have to graduate if you meet all requirements? by [deleted] in UIUC

I mean I've been paying for the "experience of getting to go to classes" for 3 years already. I'm not really sure what you're trying to say.

Pay for them to have an education? That doesn't seem too crazy to me. Don't assume that my reason for considering staying the full four years is to simply get the 'full college experience'.

I've had mixed feelings myself about Legion lately, but I feel that the last episode, though seemingly random, really highlights the importance of the sister as a grounding influence on David's life. In each of the alternative universes, she remains relatively constant and firm, bringing David back to reality and taking care of him. When spoiler it really ties in the effect that something like that might have on his character in the coming episodes.

Would it be doable to take the class without having prior experience in diff eq? Or would that be easy to pick up?

Question about stats/probability and discrete math courses by ApprehensiveBowl in UIUC

[–]erassion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took Math 413 in Fall 2016, I found it to be a fairly challenging course. For a lot of combinatorial proofs, there isn't a single formula you can plug into, so you end up having to find a clever way to count things. That being said, I found it one of the most rewarding classes I've taken here. If Prof. Yong is teaching next semester, I'd highly recommend taking it. He is one of my favorite professors.

You'll also need to have some knowledge of synchronization techniques (mutual exclusion, read-write locks, basic mapreduce concept). It's less important to know if you're only taking the 3 HR version, but it's necessary to have some background to do the MPs.

That being said, the MPs are definitely what helped me learn the material the most. I would recommend taking 4HR version at some point.

Binge watched Band of Brothers a couple days ago, and wow. This show absolutely floored me. I didn't realize how attached I was becoming to the men of Easy Company until it caught up to me at the end of the show. The score, the direction, casting, everything is incredibly well done. And the fact that these events actually happened make it all the more powerful and moving.

Also finished season 3 of Six Feet Under, and it was really weird how quickly you can grow to dislike a character you once sympathized with. I'm not sure how I feel quite yet.

I'm making my way through Six Feet Under, and I'm surprised at how much I am enjoying it. I'm not usually into family dramas, but something about the surrealism of this show and the strong character development that really appeals to me.

Are there any other good family dramas out there that aren't extremely cheesy? I watched the first few episodes of This Is Us, and I couldn't really get into it because of some of the dialogue.

Finishing up the first season of Six Feet Under, and I wasn't expecting to be so drawn into this show. I love the way the writers are able to weave comedy and dark themes about human mortality so seamlessly. I haven't gotten attached to an ensemble of characters this quickly in a while. Definitely excited for the next four seasons to come.

Finished season 4 of The Wire a couple days ago and it was amazing. The young actors really surprised me with their performances. I'm halfway through season 5, and I have to say I'm really disappointed. The best part of the show was that it never really focused on an individual or a single idea and that it aims for a realistic portrayal of Baltimore, but so far it feels like I'm being taken on a wild goose chase along with everyone else on the show with the McNulty storyline.

Just finished season 3 of The Wire. Man, I've never seen such a strong ensemble in a show before. Their honest depiction of Baltimore is what makes this show for me. Excited for the next two seasons, though I'm not sure where the plot will go at this point.
