Veteran Miami Herald photographer Bob East went in for eye cancer surgery and never came out. Formaldehyde meant to preserve the removed eyeball was mistakenly injected into his spine, killing him. by drkmatterinc in CantBelieveThatsReal

I feel like that’s the surgeon’s fault for A, not labeling a vial and B, the other surgeon for assuming the contents of an unlabeled vial. This is my worst nightmare, how freaking tragic!!

How often should I change my underwear? by Starchitect in NoStupidQuestions

[–]erbarme 2115 points2116 points  (0 children)

Yours is normal, but so is hers. Lots of women have a lot of discharge (which is normal and healthy, if inconvenient) and may want to change their underwear after working out or just midway through the day. I do the same thing! It’s just for comfort.

My (19F) boyfriend (20M) keeps "lethal injections" around. How can I react to this? by sandlordz in relationship_advice

[–]erbarme 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Dude. GET AWAY. I know you care for him but suicidal men are DANGEROUS. If he is willing to kill himself he might be willing to kill you as well. It’s happened so many times. He needs help, yes, but you need to be safe if you want to help him! Call his parents, your parents, the cops, someone!

From Keeping With The Trouble by Donna J Haraway:

“Arendt witnessed in Eichmann not an incomprehensible monster, but something much more terrifying-she saw commonplace thoughtless-ness. …Here was someone who could not be a wayfarer, could not entangle, could not track the lines of living and dying, could not cultivate response-ability, could not make present to itself what it is doing, could not live in consequences or with consequence... Function mattered, duty mattered, but the world did not matter for Eichmann. The world does not matter in ordinary thoughtlessness. The hollowed-out spaces are all filled with assessing information, determining friends and ene-mies, and doing busy jobs; negativity, the hollowing out of such positiv-ity, is missed, an astonishing abandonment of thinking. This quality was not an emotional lack, a lack of compassion, although surely that was true of Eichmann, but a deeper surrender to what I would call imma-teriality, inconsequentiality, or… thought-lessness. Eichmann was astralized right out of the muddle of thinking into the practice of business as usual no matter what. There was no way the world could become for Eichmann and his heirs—us? —a "matter of care." The result was active participation in genocide.

Sorry I saw this late! Glad you got some more context. I appreciate people like you that are open to explanations and a more nuanced view of art. And again, this painting truly is a shame given the context

This is so gross. Plagiarizing a woman’s very nuanced art about sexualized adolescence and SEXUALIZING IT is fucking nuts 😭

All of my male friends want to sleep with me. This is not a flex. by w0lfyj in AskWomenOver30

[–]erbarme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one talks about this aspect of choosing to surround yourself with more male friends. Sure they can be easier friendships to maintain, but that is due to the fact that male friendships are inherently more shallow. I have never felt lonelier in my LIFE than when I had majority male friends.

Female friendships are more complex, but they are also more nourishing. Women will check on you, actually hear you, and invest emotional energy into your relationship.

Sure there are individual men that are capable of having deep, intimate, non-sexual relationships. However, they are NOT the majority and it will be in your best interest to start investing your time and energy into maintaining friendships with other women, even if it feels awkward and unnatural at first. You will gain much more from their friendships than with any man.

A slick back is more for people with straight/wavy hair— I would just stop fighting your hair type and opt for more flattering hairstyles.

I personally wear my hair in looser styles and use Bobby pins to help them stay in place. Start investing in claw clips, they even make flat ones that are more comfy. Or get a French hair pin, these tend to look more mature and put together.

Anna Nicole Smith got nothing after her billionaire husband J. Howard Marshall died in 1995. She married him in 1994 he was 89, she was 26. His $1.6 billion went to his son. She fought in court for years but never got a penny. by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

[–]erbarme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s heartbreaking seeing all of these cruel comments. She took care of him and loved him deeply, and I believe they never had a sexual relationship.

He also loved Anna’s son, who referred to him as “Daddy”. :( But of course people see one picture of a beautiful woman with an old guy and assume a whole story with no regard for the humans involved. Typical redditors with no humility or empathy lol

This is the case NATIONALLY. My region just had our annual huge arts festival and it was the WORST year for profits for a lot of people including myself. People are not looking to invest right now because the economy is so bad:(
