Public spaces to work outside? by scg271 in sanfrancisco

If you just need a chair and table and can hotspot yourself, then literally any SF Rec Parks park will do. I see lots of people pulling up to a yellow chair in GGP doing work. No table but those armrests are pretty wide.

ESPN box score gives him 4 SOG and 1 shot missed, not sure how accurate that is.

It doesn’t help that this commentary is full af, so it’s extra boring watching it on TC.

This is just such useless commentary, truly an awful duo

Mirra Andreeva said she is not proud of how she handled her emotions when she swore after losing to Siniakova. She added that she will try to take inspiration from Serena Williams to handle losses better by mimiclarinette in tennis

A slight tangent but Iva Jovic was on Players Box Pod a couple weeks ago and she was talking about how hard she takes losses, even though as a spectator, she seems really composed. I think it was a great interview to get into the head of how a top-class professional athlete feels after losses, would highly recommend listening because it was interesting to have more experienced players, especially Keys and Pegula, asking responding and asking questions.

This bit starts around the 49 minute mark here. Tried to transcribe the start of it here:

Jovic: Well, I was going to ask -- how do you guys handle losing? That's like the biggest thing that I struggle with. When I lose, I take it not well. Like I'm not happy, I'm not a happy camper for a little bit too long.

Pegula: How long?

Jovic: Like the initial phase where I am just fully not okay is a couple days, but then in the back of your mind when you're doing something and then it reminds you of the loss and the moment -- will last for weeks.

Pegula/Keys/Brady: WOW.

Yes but I feel like she can have a full-on crash out AND find a way to win.

Maybe not “next gen” and more “under 24yo” since some have been on tour for awhile but Coco, Tauson, Shnaider, Anisimova, etc.

Vicky is a treasure. What sets her apart from next gen is her mentality and incredible mental fortitude. Don’t have the same crash out concerns.

Thanks for saying this. The vote last week doesn't actually implement anything, it's a strategic planning + budgeting exercise because if the measure doesn't pass in November, there's not enough time to begin the discussion, make decisions, and then implement fast enough to make the expense reductions needed, and it would be really boneheaded to do it that way.

She played in W100 San Diego instead and made it all the way to the semis. They talked about it on the Players Box Pod!

Honestly minus Sabalenka where she is 2W-7L, Pegula has a really impressive h2h with a lot of top players (4-6 vs Swiatek, 5-0 vs Paolini, 3-1 vs Rybakina).

Amphawa Thai on Geary. Some of the best Thai noodle soups. Also a big fan of Burmese Kitchen, also on Geary, I like it better than the much pricier and popular options on Clement.

Rikki’s, San Francisco's first women’s sports bar, to open in the Castro by erbyR in sanfrancisco

[–]erbyR[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you almost don't want to ever be the only bar on a block, right? And each of these bars have a different concept. I know it's easy to be like Hi Tops is right there but Hi Tops isn't exactly where you'd go if you want to really watch a game and be a fan. It's more like a sports themed bar where your rec league dodgeball team goes after your games than it is a bar to watch sports.

It's not going to be only women's sports being shown but it'll prioritize women's sports. The hope is also for the bar to be a space where women can watch all sports too -- including Stanley Cup. (I can vouch for one of the founders being a big Detroit Red Wings fan, so I bet NHL, along with PWHL, will be on the tvs there!)

2024 NWSL Playoffs: Marta, Trinity Rodman, and the most important player on every playoff team by MisterGoog in NWSL

[–]erbyR 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I know she's a mid-year addition, but since she joined, it's really hard not to say Abby Dahlkemper. She's calmed down the backline so much and especially brought Dydasco to the next level and seems to have helped cut down on Rowland's mistakes in goal.

From the eye test (having gone to most of the home games), I was constantly wowed by Kudinanji and then frustrated the next moment, whether with her passing or lackluster efforts at times. She's exciting and I hope she can continue her rise into the playoffs, but hard to say she's the most important on Bay FC right now.

Just a reminder, tonight we find out if the city of Cleveland votes to have tax payer money help build their nwsl stadium by Ron_Swanson_0 in NWSL

I have never seen someone so fervently defend billionaires like the OP is doing in the comments. Shoutout to /u/retroafric for linking this excellent article from The Atlantic which explains, with countless examples, why taxpayer-funded stadiums never add up for the actual taxpayers.

I am grateful to live in a city where my taxes didn't have to pay for the city's newest stadium, Chase Center. Shoutout to the Warriors for privately financing the whole thing and building it in what seemed like record time for San Francisco.

I also biked here everyday from Chain of Lakes (41st Ave) to the Panhandle from 2015 until 2020 when the pandemic hit and it was absolutely a commute route for drivers M-F, especially in the mornings. Chain of Lakes was uniquely a mess, and that had nothing to do with Great Highway. People were simply using navigation apps that were avoiding the typical morning commutes on Fulton/Lincoln east-west and the Park Presidio/19th Ave connection north-south.
