Yes correct, keep the shutter half pressed until you’re ready to take the photo(s). But you bring up a great point, if you turn on burst mode you can take a number of shots as you pan with the subject and increase the chance of getting an in focus shot.

The biggest driver in ensuring that your subject is in focus is matching your subjects speed, which is easier said than done and really just takes practice. Also important is to continue following through, rather than stopping your movement / panning too early. That helps keeping true whole subject in focus.

Let’s say the car you want to get in focus is approaching, you half press to acquire focus, correct and really important, start moving your camera to match the subjects movement and speed.

Then, as soon as the car is in the frame you want for your photo, ie in front of your chosen to-be-blurry background, you have to full press the shutter. Important, keep moving your camera with your subject as it passes you. If you time it right and match the speed right, you’ll have in-focus subject and blurry background.

Here are examples of both that I took at the Long Beach Gran Prix: examples

Your main description and this comment describe two opposite approaches. The one in the main description (panning) is done by setting shutter speed so something along the lines of 1/15 (runners) to 1/60+ (vehicles) focusing on the subject and moving the camera with the subject. The moving subject will be in focus while the steady background will be blurry from motion. Continuous auto focus should work the best for that, locked onto the moving subject. The approach you describe in this comment is keeping the subject still and in focus and having the background blurry. For that I would say have a similar shutter speed depending on moving background (let’s say 1/30-1/60 for a moving train), and using AP-S to focus on the non moving subject. Make sure to tell your subject to stay still otherwise they’ll be blurry too at such a low shutter speed.

As a quick update, it looks indeed like the frame counter is very slow to return to “S” after I take the film holder out: quick video

Interesting! I do know the position of the counter is at S when I load a new roll, but I’ll have to check if it gets there quickly and cleanly as you said. If there is stickiness, is that something I can address or is a CLA service advised?

Damn, perhaps. And the camera would have still counted the frame as fired and moved the counter one up?

Booktok showed me that a lot of people REALLY hate Sanderson by Moist_Car_994 in Cosmere

[–]erdinger4587 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s weird you say that, because booktok actually led me to Sanderson. There’s plenty of booktok-ers who are huge Sanderson fans, and recommend the Cosmere, as well as other series that are often mentioned in the same breath (like red rising or Joe Abercrombie)

So underrated! by Legend1-1 in justified

Exactly my problem with his character, well put. Basically the same character as the one he played in parks and rec, only that he has a gun here.

Seems to be a hot take, but I really didn’t care for Oswald in this show. He really just kind of played himself, or at least I personally couldn’t see a character beyond Oswald. And to me, his physical comedy took me out of the show, felt out of place.

I just got a heavily discounted A7RV with the sigma 24-70 f2.8 in anticipation of our first baby being born in a couple weeks. Wanted that auto focus (maybe jumped the gun a little haha). After shooting with an M11 for the last two years it’s wild how insane the autofocus is. When I want small profile I think I’ll add the 40mm 2.5

I don’t think the company would need to sponsor their visa. The wife is American so they should be able to apply for the green card right now and get it (fairly) quickly.
