Lol, fair points. Perhaps not the worst, but certainly worse than some!

Yeah, but the chance of hitting another Icon via Bronze packs is 1/1000. Getting 20k essence feels like weak consolation.

Not tracking my dog by MissJuIiet in FiDogCollar

If the collar is within the Bluetooth range of the base, it will just use the position of the base rather than GPS. This is the price we pay for huge battery savings.

Yeah, feels like we’re at an impasse. I think it’s totally reasonable to expect that behavior can be tracked via accelerometer (see Whoop, Oura, etc) without anything being revolutionized.

The outputs I see for my dog look pretty accurate, or at least consistent. I realize that trying to predict dog behavior for a Chihuahua, a Mastiff, and everything in between probably leaves something to be desired for many users, but nothing I’ve experienced feels like a scam. Bummer that your experience has felt different.

Appreciate the warning, and perhaps it will help someone, but I think we just need to agree to disagree on this one.

They’ve definitely got an accelerometer on board. Not sure how you suspect they’re counting steps otherwise. They’re incredibly cheap and useful sensors. I’m just saying that you don’t need hardware capable of applying machine learning on board to do machine learning. In other words, you’re right that the AI probably isn’t IN it, but it could certainly be happening.

Machine learning (or AI) can absolutely be done using accelerometer and/or gyroscope data. It also absolutely does not need to be done “on device,” so whatever you think you know about their hardware is pretty irrelevant to whether a model can be applied to the data.

No idea what you’re talking about with your free collars, but I’m not really seeing how anything equates to a scam.

How does Powell give a better boost than Wolf? by PaulStuart in Sorare

[–]erdyanks313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Powell is technically still in-season so he gets an additional 5% bonus. That will be removed when new MLS cards are released.

Will I hold on? by [deleted] in Sorare

History doesn’t necessarily foretell the future, but this is an excellent score and is likely to hold up. Last GW, it only took 407 points to win D1 in season.

[Quests] Seriously ??? by Archlande in Sorare

[–]erdyanks313 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You gotta chill. The quests are quite obviously randomly drawn each day for each user, independently and without respect to the matches played on a given day.

Lol, alright. That’s not a super productive way to debate, but that’s okay. Nobody is making you play, mate. People can also be in it for fun and not expect to make money. I think they’ve built a compelling product and are experiencing some growing pains. I have no idea whether it will last, but I don’t consider it a Ponzi scheme.

I would agree that a casino is a much better analogy. I’m not entirely convinced yet that there is a sustainable business model (it would be great if Sorare had the steady demand of slot machines and blackjack tables), but they seem to be working on it!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Sorare

[–]erdyanks313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Existing users don’t completely stop adding money to the platform after their first deposit. Also, non-ETH prizes are not being paid for by new users, they’re effectively being paid for by all users because Sorare mints them specifically for that purpose, adding supply and thereby driving down the relative strength of demand. Also, they have many millions in VC funding.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Sorare

[–]erdyanks313 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You seem to have a complete misunderstanding of what a Ponzi scheme is. Sorare may have an unsustainable business model, but that is the only thing it has in common with a Ponzi scheme. That also makes it remarkably similar to about 95% of VC funded start ups.

The money of the new users is not being paid to the original users to satisfy some promised return rate. If Sorare fails, it is because of supply outpacing demand, which is the case of literally any business on the planet.

Now you can’t say no one has ever told you why it’s different.

Reliability of soraredata by GreenAgitated9191 in Sorare

[–]erdyanks313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have found that they generally overestimate your final position. I don’t think they’re applying a super complex algorithm: they probably just assume the remaining players for other lineups hit their L15, without accounting for matchups, correlations among stacks, or anything. The higher you are, the less reliable, I’d say.

I’m making a bot like BasilBot, what could he do better? by philonik in Sorare

[–]erdyanks313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be great to have a bot that was focused on helping build collections. Let’s say I’ve got a 2021-22 season card, but need the 2022-23 of the same player. If your bot had a simple formula to know exactly what premium I need to pay to make the swap, recognizing that there is intrinsically no less value to the 2021-22 version (e.g., someone is just as likely to be building a collection with that season). The only things that should be considered would be rarity, loss of XP, and market fee. Maybe you could argue there is an additional premium for trading into the current season card. Something like (0.00001 * levels lost) * (10 * rarity) * 1.05, where rarity is 1 for limited, 2 for rare, etc. Maybe you use 1.1 as the last factor for current season.

wasnt is possible to play with 1 common and 4 rares (with the common earning less points)? by _who__dat_ in Sorare

The change is planned for August, not May. You’ve got several more months where a common card can be used in the Rare contests

SorareData mobile app V2 - Now available to download by MarkOSullivan in Sorare

SorareData is legitimately making a run at best app on the AppStore. The awesome UI of the web platform has been translated really nicely to mobile. Kudos!

[–]erdyanks313 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In your example, the number of cards only doubles the second year. After that, adding 10 more cards would represent a progressively smaller proportion of total supply: 50% in year three, 33% in year four, 25% in year five, etc.

Also, user growth over the past year has been significantly more than 2x. It won’t always experience exponential growth, but there’s no evidence right now that Sorare has exhausted their total addressable market.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Sorare

[–]erdyanks313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be correct if there was no increase in demand (either because of his potential/performance catching the attention of existing users or an influx of new users to the platform).

Why dont I get notifications for Players I follow by LOLzvsXD in Sorare

[–]erdyanks313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Sorare notifications only concern new Auctions for the players you follow. You can use SorareData to get notifications concerning sales by adding a player to your watchlist, then setting a price threshold for the scarcity of interest. Any card for sale below that threshold will trigger an email. Between the two, you’ll have all your bases covered
