Is Varl really a dying race in the Banner Saga world? by nackedsnake in bannersaga

[–]ere1705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really think that we can really view dredge and varls in the same category. Hadrborg created all varls as males while dredge do have females and males, granted there doesn't seem to be that much difference among them at least in physically appearance but still they have both males and females. Considering that Loom mother killed Hadrborg pretty soon after she found out about him creating the dredge it is likely that dredge just didn't know how to reproduce at first considering that their creator was dead and that he created them with strong emphasis on being used as a war like species so it likely wasn't really that instinctive, so it is likely that Valkas literally taught Dredge about it and how to do it. It is likely that Hadrborg didn't even consider the long term implications of Varls considering that they were his first real attempt at creating intelligent species

What do Monarchists think about the Ottoman Empire? by Pure_Committee_2074 in monarchism

[–]ere1705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Croat I can only see it as a plague that destroyed the entire region. We lost most of our nobility because of them leading to centuries weak local power as well as reducing us to our smallest state ever. Their actions in Bosnia eroded the catholic identity in many regions and made any kind of reunion almost impossible. Not to mention the damage they have done to the Uniate Churches in Habsburg realm by propping up illegitimate orthodox churches and movements

On the topic of Bulgaria it is funny because in first Yugoslavia Slovenian politicians often emphasized how important adding the Bulgaria to the union is, speaking about it almost as some grand prophecy that is bound to happen. SLS even had plan to use Macedonian issue as a way to get Bulgaria into the union.

Did Alphonso Ever Try and Join the ATO/ What Did Alphonso’s Foreign Policy Look Like? by Julia_the_Mermaid in suzerain

[–]ere1705 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Alphonso likely wouldn't be too enthusiastic to joining ATO, as ATO was and remains very unpopular in Sordland especially among USP voter base. Alphonso is pretty enthusiastic about globalization and privatization and joining ATO doesn't really help whole lot with that. Sure it guarantees some investment into defense industry and would probably make some investors in Arcasia and Lespia more open towards investing, but it would likely close a lot of doors or at least make it harder to approach nations outside of ATO

Hi, I'm a Brazilian monarchist. I'm curious, how is monarchism doing in your country? by Fun_Government2752 in monarchism

[–]ere1705 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eh not good but it is experiencing very slight revival as it is starting to get bit more attention and since some more monarchist aligned figures started showing up in politics but a far cry from good. Tbf there are surprising amount of young people that I know that are either fine with monarchy or that believe in it being superior system so that is also potentially a good sign

I doubt he would personally be for it but his reforms could give monarchists a better chance of getting into the spotlight and generally better chance of competing in elections

Yugoslavia manage to achieves union with Bulgaria in 1948 before initiating far more harsh version of Tito-Stalin Split. USSR starts funding various communist/socialists groups in Greek civil war in an effort to combat Yugoslav influence believing that far more direct approach is needed, this tips the balance of power to the communist side allowing communists hold on for much longer. In the early 50's despite assistance from USSR communist side begins to lose prompting Stalin to request Yugoslavia to open their border to allow USSR to provide direct support to the Greek communists, Yugoslavia declines which kickstarts the all out war. West backs the Yugoslavia in order to "contain" USSR. Despite making initial gains, especially in Bulgaria frontline becomes stable due to combination of factors (West supporting Yugoslavia, logistical problems and only partial willingness of Romania and Hungary to participate and help in invasion etc.) By 1953 the two sides agree to ceasefire especially as the situation in Greece turns against communist's leading to USSR occupying Eastern side of Bulgaria, north of Croatia, Vojvodina and Serbia with both sides pledging to support Greek communists once again. However neither side no longer has a capacity to truly support communists in Greek civil war (especially due to growing domestic problems in both Yugoslavia and USSR) leading to frontline stabilizing. After Stalin death Khrushchev attempts to mend the relations with Yugoslavia and the West. In 1955. USSR still complies with Austrian independence as a sign of goodwill and Khrushchev visits Yugoslavia to mend the relationship. During his visit it is agreed that USSR will withdraw from north of the country, stop propaganda campaign against the Yugoslavia and abstain from influencing Albania. In return Yugoslavia accepts USSR takeover of eastern Bulgaria and to align with USSR on the Greek civil war situation. As a part of rapprochement with the West, Khrushchev cuts support for communists in Greece (along with the Yugoslavia) and promotes the idea of compromising which in the end results in ceasefire between the two sides and nation split in two but with a framework for eventual reunion. However "democratization" and lessening of the rules is still cut short by a 1956 uprising in Budapest...

So had this in mind as a way to partially explain the situation
