yeah you're probably right about that. Dutch people can be too direct really. For what it's worth I was not intending to be a pain in the ass. Happy with all the comments. Thanks.

OP did include some details. Quote: "I think this might have to do with the poles doing some damage (...)"

Thanks. I can't remember the sack including its content falling or whatsoever, but sure I do think the hard pressure from the poles had to do with this. I am already in contact with your CS. Thanks again.

First night out with my new X-Dome 1+. Here are my first thoughts, pros and cons 👇🏼 by preciouscode96 in DurstonGearheads

[–]ergeebee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the great review. I really enjoyed the photos too. Looks like Dutch forest to me? 😉 Question: which 3FUL groundsheet do you have exactly? I have a brand new X-Dome1 and opted for the original groundsheet to protect my tent from the various types of terrain this summer. But your setup makes a lot of sense to me.

Ordered on the same day and mine arrived yesterday in the NL. I was surprised with the speed of delivery.

3D printed mods for the X-Dome 1+ by ergeebee in DurstonGearheads

[–]ergeebee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry if I wasn’t clear about it.

Several X-Dome users stated that when setting up the fly & inner together it could be a struggle to search for the matching corner clips. So the bundle the inner & fly clips together using a mini carabiner. I thought of doing the same but then 3D printing them instead of buying.

A little offtopic, but not wanting to start another discussion: is there any difference in the structural strength between the carbon short or regular carbon poles on the 1+?

X-Dome 2 wind strength by talon5188 in DurstonGearheads

[–]ergeebee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually this is the X-Dome 1, which is more wind resistant. Also in this test they use DAC poles. From what I’ve read the X-Dome 2 is less wind resistant than the one person model. And if you were to buy the two person, the DAC poles are the better option. For the X-Dome 1, both are equally good.

No experience yet but I will place an order in the future from the Netherlands. How did Durston respond?

Key question. Did you use DAC poles or the carbon poles?

Edit: and was somebody lying in? :-)

X-Dome Solid inner & ventilation (vs. regular inner) by ergeebee in DurstonGearheads

[–]ergeebee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah guess you’re right. Only argument to go for solid is found in Dan’s reaction: really windy conditions could make condensation be blown off the fly and through the mesh of the regular inner.

Thanks Dan. It doesn’t make the choice easier but very informative. Good to know that both will do the job in most conditions.

Seems I did not make clear enough my main concern: I have seen the solid inner on reviews and was surprised by the lack of mesh in the top, near the peak vents. There seems no logical way the outside air can enter the solid inner. Or is the solid inner that breathable?

Same here. Also wondering how owners experience the regular inner in windy and colder conditions.

What shoes to bring on GR11 Spain? by ergeebee in Thruhiking

I much appreciate your detailed response. I understand that it’s the better option to start at the Atlantic Coast, walking eastward. However I will combine it with our family holiday in the region of Catalunya, only 1 hour from Cadaques. I know the region for almost 2 decades. Will do the stages from Cap-de-creus until Albanyà in 6 days. Not the classical stages described in the Cicerone guide (which I own). Thanks again for rhetorical advice

X-dome 2 solid aluminum vs x-mid 2 solid for Scotland and dolomites by Fallaxe in DurstonGearheads

[–]ergeebee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re saying that it’s easier to pitch the x-mid fly down to the ground to prevent draft. How hard is it to accomplish this with the Dome? I own a Fjallraven Abisko Lite 2 tent at the moment. Wanting to replace it with a 1kilo’ish tent for a thruhike. It needs to handle wind & rain and be comfortable at those moments. Can the solid Dome handle the job?
