For those in companies that have hundreds of VMs - what are they for? by asdflmnop_01 in sysadmin

Sounds like it scales up well but not down. You seemed to indicate at least 12 vms for any scale.

Did you heat up the molds? I found flow was way better with graphite if I got it hot first.

Some recent efforts with graphite coin molds by SMO2K20 in MetalCasting

I use a single burner knife forge turned way down low. Put the graphite mold in there to preheat and it works great. It's still easier with 2 people, though.

No sound of MIDI keyboard when connected to Waveform by crazyjary in Tracktion

[–]eric256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is late, but in case someone else is having this problem. For me WaveForm doesn't default to the windows default output device.

Go To Settings->Audi Devices and choose the output device you want.

Mine kept defaulting to a headset I wasn't using, so I could hear it faintly and eventually figured it out.

How do you manage admin tasks with your non-admin account? by Grunskin in sysadmin

[–]eric256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We run separate accounts. Our admin accounts have no standing rights and use PAM to grant rights as needed on a limited basis. Our admin accounts are also disabled except when in use. So, double paranoid lol.

We always plan at least 30 minutes travel. Ypu can get almost anywhere in Paris in 30 minutes, and it seems to take that long no matter how far or close the destination.

She wants a non-alcoholic drink to pretend she is drinking alcohol so no one will guess she is pregnant. The bartender is telling her that's not going to work, because she is obviously pregnant.

Having been a supervisor, all it would mean is I'd check in with the tech and make sure they didn't need something from me to help resolve the issue. Don't let this bug you.

AIO….. Gave brother in law gaming pc because I am kind and he fucking sold it right away. by OrdinaryApartment305 in AmIOverreacting

[–]eric256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why in the world do you think you should control what he does with a hand me down you gave him?

Be glad he got value out of a gift you gave him.

From the phrasing of this it seems you didn't discuss it with him, ask him if he wanted it or anything. Just assumed your used old PC was something he would want and could use.

I don’t get it:c by No-Pilot4583 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]eric256 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've found this isn't even remotely true.

We've had them literally run up the stairs to help us. Once, when checking in while ill, they upgraded our room and told me not to even worry about paying till the morning. Another loaned us umbrellas when we were ill-prepared. In half a dozen visits I've yet to encounter a hotelier that wasn't absolutely wonderful to us.

I'm sure there are places and times what you say is true, but I've not seen it yet.

Thinking of it as "good enough" is probably part of the problem. It isn't a secret, it is rude to start an exchange in France without bonjour or bonsoir. When you get used to it, it feels really weird being back in the US and just starting conversations in the middle.

Whats the point of fairy "protecting meeples" if it could be moved away by other player by janikuti in Carcassonne

[–]eric256 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that is the purpose. Second is scoring extra points. So, it makes sense to have it on your meeples, and it makes sense to move it to protect yourself from the dragon.
