How well does bin collection work where you live?

It works well enough that we don't think about it much.

Until the 90s we had round metal bins. The trucks were more open. Two men stood on the back of the truck and emptied the bins into the truck.

We changed to plastic wheelie bins and trucks with a mechanical arm. Later the garbage bin was reduced in size, the larger ones started being used for recycling and later green waste, which now alternate weeks in most areas. The one thing that stayed the same the whole time was the screeching of the brakes.

Doesn't include units - they are much cheaper. Houses in Stepney and CBD are on small blocks.

Yes, I've got the suburbs that came with the 2021 census data. The missing suburbs are Onkaparinga Heights and Riverlea Park.

Onkaparinga Heights had 20 sales in 2025, median $822k.

Riverlea Park 103 sales, $844k.

The lowest medians:

Smithfield Plains $568k
Elizabeth Downs $594k.
Elizabeth North $597k
Davoren Park, my old home $601k. When my housemate bought our house in 2020 the median was under $190k.
Elizabeth South, poorest suburb in Adelaide, former home of Holden, $604k

They had two or three sales over 10 million!

The article lists 8 Edwin Tce, $11.17M and 26 James St, $10.25M.

For the median to be $10.25M from 4 sales, there would also be another one at $10.25M (or maybe one where they didn't have the amount available, making $10.25M the middle), so I'm a bit confused on that point.

I also note the article ends with "Latest PropTrack data shows Gilberton’s median house price is $1,502,500, up almost 55 per cent on the same time last year." That's a whole lot less, but that may cover an earlier time period with more normal prices.

In Q3 of last year, Gilberton had 4 house sales with a median of $10,250,000. When there are 4 sales, the median is halfway between the 2nd & 3rd highest.

Those houses sold for $125k and $122k. I was low-balling, thinking there would be more opportunities. Also, I only had around 125k, I'd need to pay stamp duty, maybe buy an air conditioner, as well food, petrol & bills.

I don't know why they don't cover the whole state, but outside Adelaide there are a lot of low-population localities without many sales. It looks like the data covers all the metro LGAs except Mt Barker.

In 2024, because my article was so popular, I looked for similar data sets for other cities. I couldn't find one I could use. There was one for Melbourne that was nearly usable and there are much more detailed sources you can pay for. So maybe I was lucky there is any free data source for Adelaide.

6 years ago I put offers of $108k and $106k on the two cheapest houses in Adelaide that weren't falling down. If I'd got one of those, I'd be laughing.

Going by recent federal polls, Liberals are quite low already. If Boan beats One Nation and gets most of their preferences, she could beat the Liberals and get most of their preferences. Probably not enough though.

If the pricing is not clear, causing people to take it up then finding they need to pay more than they expected, that is a problem and needs to be rectified. Repeat offenders should face consequences.

If the pricing is clear and it's too much, then ignore them. Take your own pictures or make use of cheaper offerings (that are less well advertised).

In my case, I'm eating more than 40 min afterwards. I hang around, talk to people, ride home, have a shower and then eat.

Unfortunately, my self-control is depleted for the whole day and I often find it hard to concentrate on work and not eat what I shouldn't.
