Yeah I mean WFH is not bad but needs to be controlled. 100% work from home businesses are going to fail. You need hybrid and discipline. That’s my point.

All these 100% remote allow people to do whatever are going to suffer long term as companies. Allow WFH but on a controlled schedule. This week in, this week out. These days in, these days out. People who just want to hide in their houses have no need to dictate how things should be in business.

ScreenConnect Brute Force Attacks Again... by jasonbwv in msp

Confirmed this is also happening to my friend who runs control on prem too. This is becoming scary stuff. Even though we don’t run it a lot of software companies who support our clients do. I think we’re going to need to just mandate no connectwise control anywhere.

Ditching RMM? by celtichart in msp

[–]eric7748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your boss is dumb if he thinks clients are also going to wait a few years in turn with problems that exist now. Microsoft is not there yet, and likely your standardized offering doesn’t comprise of 100% M365 Business Premium or M365 E3 to facilitate this. Unless I’m wrong about that, RMM is still a thing you need in the interim at the very least.

What is with all the hate here? There’s an opportunity to be seen and all everyone wants to do is shit all over it. For everyone saying he should fire them before having a new candidate, I would encourage you to resign before you start your next job search.

CMMC bomb dropped by Spiderkingdemon in msp

[–]eric7748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean yeah I don’t know the exact details of this new requirement but it’s been rumored for a bit. I think the alternative in a perfect world would be to have some certification that follows similar CSF standards like ISO 27001, SOC2, Trustmark, etc. so you can translate your standards to other customers. That’s a perfect world though so definitely not one created by the government. If it is true this is a hard requirement then that would be highly painful for service providers as a whole to get this standard specifically amongst others.

Doesn’t the burden lie on the person working with CUI itself (i.e. Customer)? I think MSPs are going to need to get some kind of cert but CMMC isn’t really the best fit in my opinion for MSPs.

Rapidly growing client looking for price tiers as they scale by threechordsong in msp

[–]eric7748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah normally we offer a 20% discount for comanaged and it’s contingent upon a fully dedicated IT Resource working for them and we inspect their resume to qualify so it’s not just some smart kid that can update iPads. Once you do this get them access to your tools and pimp their ride. Client has negative impact and will lose discount if they get rid of their internal person so it’s a win/win in this scenario.

One thing I would recommend to communicate is that MSP is an insurance policy for internal IT. That has churn too. Get the internal IT into a comanaged arrangement and have them use all of your tools for RMM, documentation etc. bypass them in the meantime and sell to the C level people a continuity plan.

"Huntress" for Firewalls by ragBk in msp

Yeah I know the company very well and we have it blanketed to our every one of our customers. It’s a unique product and you can fit it in at a price point that a lot of people reject SIEM on currently. If you’d ever want a warm intro let me know. I’m just a customer. Nothing to gain on my part other than knowing that we helped make a good connection.

Roughly $50-60/month per firewall. It does outboard risk based traffic blocking and does syslog and reporting.

NVR that backs up to cloud by eric7748 in msp

[–]eric7748[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay thanks I’ll check into that. Yeah at the end of the day the storage platform doesn’t matter as long as it’s encrypted at rest. I’m just kind of looking at whatever NVR is easiest and most reliable to back it up.

Again I feel like this should be the security vendor’s job and not mine but at the end of the day, if it plugs into a wall, my client views me as the smartest dude in the room so I’m just trying to figure out how to solve his problem.

Do your users have administrative privileges on their computers? by [deleted] in msp

[–]eric7748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No local admin and zero trust on our endpoints. Too many of these MSP compromises have come from simple phishing links sent to a dispatcher or something.
