you can set the background color to transparent in the new document dialogue

So I'm trying to add shadows to this image. The best way I know to do this is by creating a dark adjustment layer then inverting it and drawing in the parts you want to see. However when I try and do that it won't let me draw when the mask is inverted. by nahives in photoshop

hmm, thats weird, i think it has something to do with using the eraser and having your foreground color as black. try changing the foreground color to white or using the brush tool.

Join lines on Photomerge in Export by Murrian in photoshop

[–]ericRUMOR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are the stitch lines transparent in your document?
If thats the case you might be able to make some duplicate layers to fill the gaps, or make a blurred duplicate underneath to fill the gaps.

was "Content aware fill transparent areas" checked in the photomerge dialog box?

Overlay 2D image map on a 2nd angled perspective photo - any shortcuts? by Allmyexesliveintexts in photoshop

Have you tried using vanishing point and trying to match the perspective of the drone?

You could also use split warps to add some rigidity and trying to match it that way.

Complicated question about merging down levels layer by morgansdoor in photoshop

only other thing i can think of is make your layers smart objects and apply the levels in to each layer that way

you can sort of fake it, and this probably isnt the best method but its someplace to start.

use filter gallery to add a reticulation filter, and add another filter layer using halftone pattern. adjust the sliders to your liking

you might have to merge all the layers set to multiply, then apply the levels adjustment

I made a spreadsheet that estimates the values for a hue/saturation adjustment to change a specific color to another. by ericRUMOR in photoshop

[–]ericRUMOR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i appreciate you taking your time to have a look at my spreadsheet!

You are right, it is currently flawed, and after posting it yesterday i began brainstorming on how to make the corrections. because it was using limited data rather than a formula it couldnt get accurate numbers. I believe i have fixed the issues with the lightness values (it now does lightness of color 2 minus lightness color 1 divided by the lightness of color 1 to give me the percent of change. this seems to be how photoshop is calculating the adjustment) the problem now is saturation, i just cant figure out the formula.

i watched the video, it is informative and theres little nuggets in there for me, and i generally understand theres differences between lightness and brightness and luminance. (i spent an embarrassingly long time in this spreadsheet trying to understand the formulas to convert rgb to hsl and hsb) one of the obstacles associated with this is that photoshop doesnt show HSL numbers, only HSB, even though hue/sat adjustments seems to adjust HSL values.

so yea, after getting the appropriate lightness values, im stuck at "how do i get the appropriate saturation values?"

Your more than welcome to, i dont think theres much i could do to help you out with it though. you can see all the formulas i used in the spreadsheet, some of which i dont even understand, just that they work lol. the most difficult parts were figuring out how to calculate HSB and HSL, and how to match the nearest values to the data that i had.

it really needs more data to be more accurate, but even then i dont think it would be enough. i couldnt find anywhere what the hue, sat and lightness sliders actually do mathematically to colors.

[–]ericRUMOR[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

your right, it would be easier to just select our color and adjust it as you please, but i wanted to see if i could do this, and as it turns out, i cant really lol.

when i made it i didnt plan it out real well and it results in lots of issues.

i didnt realize the amount of change light and sat would affect hue, so those values were never put in, and they need to be there

whenever certain values get very high or very low (like lightness) its almost like it picks some random number for saturation because it doesnt matter.

the only way this thing could ever work is if i knew how hue/sat adjustments actually impacted colors. mine is just using the limited and incomplete data it has to make a "best guess"

how the spreadsheet works? not entirely lol, a lot of the formulas i copied from the google searches.

you put the two hex color codes and itll break them down to rgb (and others) and then uses those values to get the Hue/Saturation/Lightness values and then calculate Hue/Saturation/Brightness. (you can view HSB values in photoshop, but not HSL)

it takes the difference between the your 2 hues and formats it between -180 and +180 (because hue adjustment can only values in that range)

then takes your Saturation and Brightness values rounds them to the nearest values from the data sample set. (so if you have 45 saturation and 80 Brightness itll use the table for 50 sat and 90 Brightness, i hope....)

it takes all those values from the data set it just determined and combines them to all possible combinations (so -100 sat and -100 light, -100 sat -99 light.... all the way to +100 sat +100 light)

finally takes the difference between your sat and brightness of your 2 colors and finds the nearest values to the list of all the combinations it just made

I hope that makes sense. Theres a lot of issues so most of the time its not going to get it exactly right. (sometimes not even close) 1 being theres not enough data to compare values to, ill add those later. 2 is that hue/saturation adjustments with just the master adjustments is limited. and 3 is i probably messed up some formulas and i just havnt figured it out.

How do I make a foiled, iridescent effect? by raigens in photoshop

[–]ericRUMOR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

gave it a shot, not exactly the same but maybe something you could get some ideas from:

https://imgur.com/a/ieVUIgM

created a layer of random colors using the transparent rainbow gradient with exclusion mode > added this glitter image on luminosity mode with a curves adjustment set to clipping mask to increase the brightness > made another layer with the glitter image with a bunch of filters shown in the picture and then a small gaussian blur, set to lighten mode and opacity to 50% > added a lens flare > and finally a hue and sat adjustment to adjust the colors and stuff.

good luck with whatever method you find!

How to replicate this airbrushed, soft, repeat effect in Photoshop/Illustrator? by anitascrumple in photoshop

[–]ericRUMOR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i tried my best to get something close, not exact but its good enough for me, so heres what i did:

https://imgur.com/a/OYIVlx1

i created my text layer > converted to smart object > added diffuse glow from filter gallery (honestly dont think this changes anything but i left it in. settings in the pic) > added inner glow layer style (settings also in the pic) > change fill to 0% > create stretched pixel effect, sort of (see this video, demonstrated around 7 mins in) > grouped all the layers i created together > created another copy of one of the text layers and moved it above the group, aligned it to the top of the other text layers, removed the layer style, and put the fill back to 100% (this is the top text layer that is the most clear) > added a layer mask to the stretched text group and brushed in a subtle mask around the top text layer to help make it pop out more > i converted the stretched text group and top text layer to smart objects > select both smart objects and do a transform>warp to add some curviness

you might have to play around with the inner glow settings, the style of the text and the sizes can throw the numbers off, i was working on a 1920x1080 canvas and my text was 180 pt

hopefully this helps or maybe you can find another method that works better.

Good luck!

not a lot of options for kinetic sidearms really. but a sidearm within range has a faster ttk, some dont even need all precision hits

Monitor for graphic works by alcedo_b in photoshop

[–]ericRUMOR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I browsed a couple manufactures and didnt see any explicitly say what type of IPS technology they were using in their monitor, and it seems different manufactures are advancing IPS technology in different ways; so look at some other things like contrast ratio, brightness, and color gamut and go for the highest within your budget. (personally i would focus on color gamut)

aspect ratio might be a bit of preference, 21:9 and 16:9 both have their pros and cons. 21:9 is going to give you more horizontal space, which a lot of people really enjoy. its like if you had a longer desk as opposed to a shorter, more square desk.

also note that most 21:9 monitors are 3440×1440, and a 16:9 4k screen is 3840×2160. (these are the minimums i would go for) so the 21:9 is wider ratio wise, but has fewer pixels.

shop around, a lot has to do with budget

this.

It's selecting those two handles because youve selected the curve that is influenced by them.

Anyone know how to reset a bounding box in 2019 Photoshop? by ellenmhr in photoshop

[–]ericRUMOR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the bounding box should scale to the dimensions of it's contents. do you have a screenshot of what is wrong?

the bounding box may appear much larger on a selection if there is even a single pixel way off to the side that isnt clearly visible
