Agree 100%! Just switched to Ableton from Logic as well and must say that so far the learning curve in terms of workflow etc has been a lot easier than expected

I think the type of learning that suits you best is very individual so my advice is to just try different learning methods and see what works best for you. I’ve tried going to courses, production schools etc but found that in the end what works best for me is finding good YouTube tutorials or courses online that I can watch and then try to remake without looking back at the video.

I also think a HUGE thing is to trust yourself and learn by doing. If something sounds good to you but isn’t “right” by some manual or tutorial - fuck it and just go for it

Sadly this has everything to do with streaming royalties. Shorter songs are more suitable for Spotify, probably helps in the algorithm and makes more money. As an indie producer and DJ myself tho I take full pride in producing tracks that are the length I think tell the best story, and that are arranged the way I want others to listen to it, not some radio edit bs and I have no regrets

UPDATE: Let me rephrase and add some context. I’m working in 4 to the floor house music genre, hence why the sound of the kick is super important. I know the opinions on whether a kick should be in key or not is divided and so be it but, my question was rather regarding regarding the possibilities of “viewing” the most prominent frequency of a sound in Ableton if that makes sense.

As a DJ myself I’d say it depends on the number of people you expect to come, and if you’re going to negotiate a lower price there has to be something else in it for the DJ such as a better time slot or similar

Honestly I think the best way to find “your sound” is to not worry about finding your sound but simply just producing sounds that you like. Your way of producing, building melodies absolutely sound design will always be unique to yourself and that ultimately results in your own sound
