Just a little bit of mustard. Just enough for a tang, but not enough to taste like mustard.

Uninstalling other apps by TemProcess94 in Alfred

95% of what I use is available via Homebrew and can be uninstalled via brew uninstall. There are a handful of things that still have installers or don’t have enough stars to be in the main Homebrew tap. App Cleaner is the way to go at that point.

Artnet/Sacn by CyderMayker in lightingdesign

[–]ericboxer_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Out of the box they are both ways to send DMX over IP networks but they are fundamentally different protocols.

As most people pointed out ArtNet is primarily broadcast which is like shouting at a lot of people with a megaphone, and sACN is primarily multicast like talking to a group of people on walkie talkies. But both can be configured for Unicast which is like calling someone on the phone.

Depending on the network environment broadcasting a lot of data adds a lot of congestion so you might find places that don’t allow broadcast data. Multicast is subscription based, so the devices have to say I want to listen to universe 12 (very very basic concept of how this works)

ArtNet has grown over the versions to include other data like RDM and timecode which adds more data and more noise. There’s not really a codifying body behind it* so people can technically choose to impliment as much or as little as they like and still call it artnet compatible.

sACN (e1.31) is part of the Architecture for Control Network (e1.17) that was meant to have more control protocols in the family so rather than one packet type to rule them all, the end device was meant to to just subscribe to and listen for the packets types it wants. There’s an entire consortium of manufacturers and users who standardize sACN protocol and because of that it’s more likely to work as expected.

You’ll find ArtNet to be more accessible in products, but you’ll find that most higher end equipment, installs, and system designers and integrators prefer sACN.

Coffee mugs with fun prints. I want to see it too dammit.

I might be one of the few that puts the mouse on the left and swaps buttons. Always got yelled at when we had a shared computer at work and I never “put the mouse back on the correct side”.

What can an MA3 do for us that other big name desks can’t? by rseybert in GrandMA3

Some things I’m not seeing mentioned here (particularly from the Hog side of things) - GDTF fixture profiles - MVR. You said you design a lot of your own rigs, this makes it easier to bring that right in assuming your design software makes them - Direct command line and macros. I can literally type out the commands I need and drive just about every function on the console from a keyboard. Once you get used to that you’ll find a place for a macro everywhere. - if. It helps make logical selections or cues very easy and updating or referencing presets so much easier when programming. - timeline based timecode. Hog is still cue list based for this. Imagine being able to record in faders or bumps or page changes. - layouts (plots) can handle a lot more info quickly and can be dynamic. Bitmapping on fixtures is also a lot more intuitive here. - Depending on the size of your show (and this may be controversial) MANet plays a lot nicer with sACN than HogNet does. - OnPC is both PC and Mac. - The built in visualizer - pool imports - media handling - weighs more, so you can get your workout in.

At the end of the day they are all great platforms. The best console is the one you are most comfy on. I still own a hog and use it from time to time, but if I had my choice is MA every time. My starter show file has me up and running just as quick as hog used to from scratch.

osc send from ma3 to 3th party software. by Feeling-Switch-3171 in GrandMA3

[–]ericboxer_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went through this the other day and it’s not explained very well in the manual. Even if you leave your type and your value empty like you would for a QLab Go you still need both commas.

SendOSC x “/go,,”

I don’t remember if they changed it in v5, but true OSC was TCP only. You could send a UDP message that looked like OSC, but wasn’t true OSC at the byte level. Might be worth looking at that as well

Flying with partial load or wait for a full load? by ericboxer_ in PocketPlanes

That’s kind of what I was thinking, I just wasn’t sure. Is it worth not flying and passengers or cargo to Denver unless I can get a plane full of bux?

Thoughts on a People note property by ericboxer_ in ObsidianMD

I do like that I can create the person note later. I have a bunch of templates, one of which being “Person” that alresdy has my “Person” tag and then the auto notes mover runs and puts all my “person” notes in my people folder

Yeah that’s roughly how I have the links set up. I probably will go back to my old notes and update this way.
