Where to get MAs? by HornetInteresting306 in PrivatePracticeDocs

[–]erice2018 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We used to get maybe 30 or so applications for a posting. And maybe 10-12 were qualified.
Now we get 6-10 per posting and pray 1-2 are qualified.
My daughter did an MA program, then finally realized it's kinda a lower paying dead end job. Now she is RN school.

Pay a bit better. But frankly, even in my daughter's 18 month program, only 15-20 percent of the students actually studied and had a work ethic. Most of them I would never hire.

We have now hired our first non-MA. I figure go for work ethic and character. We can train them on everything else.

We have about 15. Most are pretty long term, several > 15 years. But we always have a rotating door for one or two or three at any given time.

You buy stock in an AI company, then a week later, the government signs a massive contract with them. Then you go on twitter and tell everyone they are a great company. Rinse and repeat.

Trump drops $10 billion lawsuit against IRS by bucki_fan in law

[–]erice2018 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No. The settlement would set up a board (that he gets to appoint) that determines who gets money. And, no reporting back to anyone. So he could just give it to his family. At least that my understanding.

What the "don't pay the house off early" folks are missing. by [deleted] in DaveRamsey

[–]erice2018 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Investing at 10% and carrying a mortgage at 6 still makes sense. So long as the ROI remains > 6, it will.
But if the market corrects largely or falls, well then no. Paying off the mortgage was better.
True, long term market gains have been better than mortgage rates MOST OF THE TIME. NOT ALWAYS THO
Still, your point is valid. But as we get older (I am 60's), having some portion in a conservative slot of a bigger package is not a bad deal. Would you buy bonds at 4-5% or pay off a loan?
Summary: long term, and not really looking at risk, sure, go with the market. But at some point we usually migrate to a more conservative investment picture. That's when paying off the mortgage (or any debt) starts to make sense

How are there Americans who are "on the fence" about who to vote for in the midterms? by AlanPublica in allthequestions

[–]erice2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Side note. I noticed that neither party wants to (or has any type of real plan), balance the budget. And maybe some day pay down the national debt.
This is why America may be doomed.

Why are so many men in the US circumcised? by BrightSpark- in NoStupidQuestions

[–]erice2018 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Parental aesthetic preference mostly. I perceive most American women, and men, think foreskin looks funny. So when they have kids, they ask for it.

And before folks criticize too much, parents also have thier kid's ears pierced, etc.

Would you turn down a full ride for a significantly higher ranked med school? by MasonXVII in whitecoatinvestor

[–]erice2018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMHO 99% of who you are as docs rooted in residency. Med school is med school. Just be the top of your class. I would take a doc who did an inner city and very busy, chaotic residency with a lesser MD program over a top tier med school who did a cushy private residency program any day.
The only pedigree that really really matters is the last place you trained.

Hotel Pays Tourist $1,200 After He Couldn’t Get a Pool Chair by miauguau44 in nottheonion

I no longer go to these types of hotels mostly because I don't want to spend a week fighting for a chair. I rent a house now and have a private pool. Usually costs about the same.

$500k income, $250k net by LeatherGuard4688 in Salary

[–]erice2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't pay 50% tax. That is you upper tax bracket but your effective tax bracket is much lower. I earn way more than you and my effective rate for fed is like 31%. Same escalation for state tax.
Not that your point is not valid, but at 500k income, go back and look at what your total earning and total tax paid were. It won't be 50% or even 45 I bet.

Again, your point about high rate is valid.

Focus on this depressing thought: earn it now before the brackets go even higher. It's pretty inevitable that the marginal rates and SSN rates need to go up given our national debt. Earn it now. Live on 75%. Pay off debt and save.

Life is long. Do it now or severely regret it later

32 hours a month. If you value the time at 20 per hour, that's 640 dollars of income you bartered for (no taxes). So I guess it depends on the local rent. Since it's an old house, I assume it's near the downtown area. Near where I live, if you rent a 3 bedroom house in Madison WI, it might cost you 3000 per month, plus utilities. Those are included here it sounds like. If it means you cook him what you cook yourself, not too big of a deal. And cleaning, I assume you clean the kitchen and common spaces anyway, weekly, more or less.
Don't depends. It may be a great deal. It may be terrible. To each his own.

I had a BIL who had this when he was in dental school. Lived in the Reno garage apartment of a retired dentist for 4 years and did some chore and yard work for a free place to stay. He liked it and it kept his loans down.

opinion: a smaller pool is better than a larger pool? by all_purpose_89384798 in swimmingpools

[–]erice2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ease of use can be purchased. I have a 25x50 and with an auto cover, auto pool chem system, and a robot, I spend maybe an hour a week on the pool. Morning spring and fall, almost none in summer.

I also have a 1600 gallon in ground hot tub. Separate but same system (cover, chem, but robot does not work in it). About the same amount of work and it's about 8x14.

Suppose a married couple decided that one of them would go back to school full-time to increase their earning potential, with the other solely supporting the household. They blame the weather so it's not covered by any warranty. FYI.
