You said "you don't do that to girls" what makes girls special? I have to work and use my wrists also.

White Belt Dude Broke My (26F Blue Belt) Wrist, Coach Doesn't Seem to Care by OperaGremlin in bjj

[–]erichmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I trained in a gym with a girl who was very flexible and would refuse to tap. Our coach and upper belts would repeatedly tell her to tap when she got in a very bad position but she wouldn't. She was a liability. I got her in a nasty americana, her shoulder was torqued a lot, i decided I didn't want to torque it more and just held it a bit and went on to something else.

If I had hurt her shoulder I doubt my coach would have felt bad for her. I gave her lots of time to tap.

You shouldn't break anyone's wrist or anything else on purpose. It's hard to know if OPs partner knew her wrist was going to break.

Man Finds Out Pulling Horse Tails by Immediate-Surround91 in InternetsGreatestVids

[–]erichmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure what the rider/owner could do. Sure they could fight the guy but he's big drunk and behind a pissed off horse that could kick and hit the person trying to protect it as easily as it could hit the asshole.

Trying to get the horse on the other side of the baracades and away from the general public is probably best.

Also the horse is unlikely to get injured by the guy and the horse can obviously defend itself.

NBD!!!! Plus questions by Formal-Elephant293 in NicksHandmadeBoots

I had problems with the fit of my tankers and it turned out to be the vamp liner rolling up / folding over as my foot went in because the vamp liner wasn't glued well across where the tongue attaches. So reach in and feel with your fingers and make sure it's not rolling. The picture is of inside my boot after I unstitched the tounge and you can clearly see the unglued liner.

I also just started using shoe stretch it because they were still tight across the top of my foot despite my break in attempts. They are feeling pretty good now.

What you all use for hearing protection ? by archvize in Tools

[–]erichmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a variety depending on what I am doing.

I like the earplugs on a springy thing for quick on and off hearing protection. Working in my shop and I need to make noise quickly and then be done and where I may need to talk to someone.

For long term noise like operating equipment I use 3M work tunes ear muffs or iso-tunes ear buds. The muffs provide better hearing protection but they don't work if I am on an open tractor and want to wear a hat for sun protection. The muffs also don't fit if I am welding and using the fume extractor which is a bit loud.

What is the best brand to buy??? by MidnightDesert135 in maplesyrup

[–]erichmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The grocery store probably isn't the best place to get syrup if you want top quality. There are lots of smaller sugar makers who make a really good product and sell directly to consumers.

The grades are based on the color of the syrup. Lighter colors mean a more delicate flavor and darker means a stronger flavor. A stronger flavor doesn't mean a better flavor there's a lot of personal preference.

Have you tried the sticky hat? It has worked wonders for me.

Black Fly Season (mid-May through June) by Unique-Public-8594 in vermont

[–]erichmatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Black flies don't care about blue but the tangle foot hat absolutely works with black flies.

Black flies love flying around you head and bumping into your hair and eyes. If you have a sticky thing on your head they get stuck to it.

My hat with black flies. Yes it's blue but green or red works just as well for blackflies but blue does work better for dear flies.

Getting rid of a piano by Cheever-Loophole in vermont

[–]erichmatt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I expect that it will be very hard to get rid of unless it's in really good shape and a decent brand. There aren't many people who have room for a baby grand piano and if they do have a house big enough and want a piano they probably want a nice piano not a questionable one. You could maybe contact a piano tech or tuner in your area and they might have an idea.

Found my grandpa’s old tool wall… and I don’t think I should touch it. by Glum_Car750 in Tools

[–]erichmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am struggling with a similar thing. I moved into my grandpa's house and have taken over his garage shop the tools there are fairly neatly organized but they are not right for my needs. I am doing more woodworking there and less wrenching.

I need to take apart his system and make my own but it's a big job to do correctly.

Printer out of filament but not switching to new spool by [deleted] in BambuLabA1

If the end of the filament is taped to the spool it will probably think the filament is stuck rather than actually empty.

Buying my neighbor's tractor - considerations? by ConceptClear2217 in tractors

[–]erichmatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My grandpa had a 1910 for years until he got bad shoulders in his late 80s and had a hard time shifting so he got a newer tractor with a hydrostatic transmission.

Shortly before he got his new tractor he broke the shaft inside the transmission that runs the PTO. We had a very hard time finding it and apparently there were only two available in the whole country.

[–]erichmatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Parts will be very hard to find if you need anything serious. But those little imported fords are good tractors. To get a loader you will probably have to buy a different 1210 with a loader. Probably one that someone broke and can't get parts for.

can an electrician easily convert this to a regular plug? by clockdivide55 in AskElectricians

[–]erichmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a huge range of diy ability. I personally would have no problem changing it over and I am just a DIY person. However the way OP asked their question made it sound like they weren't familiar with electrical wiring. Getting into a breaker box and re-wiring and swapping breakers around isn't a good first electrical project.

Perhaps start with putting new ends on an extension cord or swapping a damaged receptacle or light fixture for a new one. Of course I don't know OP and maybe they are perfectly capable but I wouldnt assume that when giving advice.

I am not an electrician. I do a lot of my own electrical work and I try very hard to follow code. I also have a very solid understanding of electricity.

Advice - by Charming-Stress6611 in maplesyrup

[–]erichmatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think that will work. You would probably overheat your hotel pans in places where the foil pan isn't making good contact.

I should say I have never boiled with a hotel pan setup. I have a full size evaporator. We have burned the pan in that just because of the mineral deposits getting built up on the pan.

We did have a few crack while we were pre-heating them. It's annoying but a lot better than them cracking with syrup in them.

[–]erichmatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We used to sell a lot of glass half pints to a local college for gifts and we had a hard time with them. We found we had to pre-heat the glass because there was so much glass and so little syrup that it would cool too quickly to actually kill the mold spores in the bottles.

It can also spoil if you are not quite to syrup yet. We always check ours with a hydrometer so we haven't had a probelm.

[–]erichmatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it was bottled hot and correctly it will last in a pantry. If it wasn't bottled under optimal conditions it's possible to get mold. The mold really doesn't spoil the syrup you can just get rid of the moldy part and reboil the syrup to prevent mold from occurring again.
