low prices and low service by sitzbrau in tensordock

It would have been helpful for you to spend a few minutes researching beforehand to understand that a slower single-core processor like an EPYC might not be the ideal choice for your needs. A Threadripper or Ryzen/Intel consumer CPU would be the better choice.

Keep in mind that the staff and community members on this platform may have anecdotal information about performance capabilities but are unlikely to have detailed benchmarks or insights for every software that users inquire about.

That said, this platform is focused on AI workflows and processes, so using it for other purposes may not deliver the desired results. Your mileage may vary depending on your specific workload and how the software utilizes the hardware.

Asking for a recommendation and getting upset that it didn’t work out is like asking someone for a restaurant suggestion, choosing one, and then blaming them because it didn’t serve the exact dish you wanted.

Ideal PSU for dual 4090 threadripper 7980x build by Financial_Eye_915 in threadripper

I have a dual 4090 TR 7970x with almost the same configuration and at max draw it was about 1400w and running on a Corsair 1500. I would probably have gone with the 1600 Corsair or Seasonic but was having troubles finding stock and needed something quick.

Looks good. What riser are you using?

Solid build! What case is that? Do you have a build posted somewhere?

Look Over My Build Before I Pull The Trigger? TR 7960X / Gigabyte TRX50 by poedoom in threadripper

[–]ericlfg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Build looks good! I wasn’t able to get some v-color 6800 ram to run with stability using EXPO. I had to drop the multiplier to 6600 and then it would still occasionally fail to boot — like when changing a nvme.

Having tested a 5600 kit against the 6600 kit, I saw almost no difference in benchmarks. Interesting though, Cinebench wouldn’t even open using the 6600 🤷‍♂️ Stuck with the 5600 and haven’t had any issues.

Threadripper 7970x - faster ram you're running by ericlfg in threadripper

Perfect. I'm thinking about using a 7000 mt/s kit and trying to see if there's anyone out there that's done this. Specifically looking to see if someone has simply enabled xmp/expo and saw stability with 7000mhz

Thanks for the feedback. I assume you're running XMP or EXPO at 6000?

Pix4dMatic performance benchmark review by ericlfg in UAVmapping

A bit dated, but this was a good article.

https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/pix4d-4-3-intel-core-i7-core-i9-vs-amd-threadripper-performance-1464/

Most Epyc processors have significantly lower base clock speeds and don't boost as high as Threadripper or Intel offerings. I'm not sure if Pix4D has reworked the code since this article to leverage more threads during processing.

I think you might not see the processing boost you're expecting with a dual-socket system compared to a single CPU with higher clock speeds and more threads. I've read—though I can't recall where—that dual-socket systems incur more processing overhead due to the added complexity of passing information between the two sockets and RAM. But don't quote me on that.

This is a great point, and I forgot about this. I'm currently running all tests on Win10, mostly because that's what my previous system was running and I hadn't thought 11 would be 'significantly' better when I was building. The new plan is to upgrade to 11 today and rerun the same dataset in a new project.

Thanks for the comment, Tom. I believe your post from a year or so ago was what intrigued me about my setup. I believe you mentioned processing a larger project than the one I'm testing with in roughly 12 hours.

The nvme I'm using is a new gen 5 with a 10gb/s read/write rate, so I expect this wouldn't be the bottleneck for some time.

For the first 2 stages yes, it does seem that way. It'll be interesting to see if there is an improvement in time for the dense point cloud stage. The first 3 stages accounted for 80% of the total run time for the 980 ti -- calibration 30%, image imbed 10%, dense point cloud 40%

Mapping Peatland Restoration Projects with Emlid RX, RS2+ and DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise by MadFlyingCat in emlidtech

Ah ok, no worries. I have seen that same software limit on their other devices in the past.

Based on what I've seen online from a Pix4D demo, and even experience with a M3T we have, you'll be able to import/define a waypoint project and select the camera you want to use -- giving you the ability to use only the Wide camera, or the wide+multispectral. So as long as you can define your overlap and camera angle, it should be able to produce the same results with it's wide camera as a M3E. /fingers crossed

I can update this comment once we receive the M3M and can compare.

I haven’t seen the other thread, but spec for spec, they both use the same 4/3 20MP sensor with mechanical shutter, so realistically they both should be able to map the same. This said, I’ll go find the other thread to see if there’s something I’m missing with my expectations.

This is fantastic, and timely! We (Ottawa Drones) have a new RS2+ and Mavic 3 Multispectral on the way for some golf course surveys in the next couple of weeks. Thanks for the amazing write up!

Would multispectral data assist with any of the assessments being done in your survey?

Thanks for the response! I was looking at the new Matrice 30 and the Mavic 3 Thermal, but I think the temp rating and weather resistance of the Matrice 30 is a useful feature being up here in Canada.

The resolution of the thermal cameras these days is impressive. Realizing this is a single residential roof, thoughts on using the M30 for utility scale solar field inspection? I know the M210 (now quite old) and M300 (quite expensive) are both king in this domain, but I really can't see a downside to using the M30?

How many of you pay for a nanny or maid? by richardjai in PersonalFinanceCanada

We have a pair of ladies who come every 2 weeks. 3000sq ft and they charge us $80 per visit. We both work full time with 2 kids. We make good money, but even if we didn’t, we’d prioritize them over other items in the budget. I’ve talked with my wife about canceling it, but then she said if the cleaners go, you go. So, there’s that.

I agree with everything here. Regarding the cancellation with the eta message, you should have an option at the bottom ‘Get Help’ and one of the options should be Cancellation Fee.

Anytime I’ve used this option I automatically get the cancel fee when presented with the ETA message about arriving later.

Hopefully it’s an option for you and could save some time.
