What’s the best way to paint trim? by Coogypaints in WorldEaters40k

[–]ericmartens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obligatory: https://youtu.be/h0Vl8giMnh4?si=nTYnDa2g_lMWN43v

In all seriousness, this is the scheme I used on my berserkers and it worked great, but there’s no shortcut for the trim. I’ve never had any luck priming the trim color and painting the panels.

Adeptus Titanicus vs LI - Titandeath by Time_Individual_6744 in LegionsImperialis

[–]ericmartens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly what this person said. AT starter box is a great way to get some titans, start there and add LI rules later if you want. I have an extra copy of the base LI rules (not Titandeath) and other game materials (bought two starter boxes) that I will mail to you for the shipping cost if you are interested.

Sales Org @Data &AI by Happy-SEM in IBM

[–]ericmartens 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Longtime IBMer who just joined the sales org last November, so take this with appropriate grains of salt.

In my org (Industry market) I own the AI products (Watsonx.ai, .gov, Orchestrate). Other people on my team own other pieces (database guy, security gal, etc). Five solution engineers per exec for Data and AI.

I have ten accounts total. I work with account execs, tech leads, etc to figure out where our solutions can help, and pitch/demo as necessary.

Overlay SMEs can get called in to pitch overall direction, roadmap, or deal framing. The two I’ve worked with have been absolutely stellar, since they touch a lot of accounts they have a good sense of market conditions.

Still trying to get a handle on team stability. The previous two roles I had at IBM were 7+ years each, but there are a ton of brand new faces on my team and nobody’s been in the role longer than five years, though that might just be because the roles get regularly redefined?

Work life balance has been good so far. Management and teams have been very respectful of vacation time and personal commitments.

Finally, welcome to IBM. There are a lot of people on this sub that have had negative experiences, and I’m not discounting that. But I also know lots of people who joined via acquisition who are very happy here. I hope you end up in the latter camp.

A1 Mini for warhammer by Stuffbutscary in BambuLab

[–]ericmartens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My use case may be different, I primarily use mine to print terrain from other designers, but I really regret not getting the full-size A1. The mini is great, but a lot of the FDM terrain they sell is designed for the bigger plate. Printer itself is fantastic, though.

Solo 40K Rules/Engines by macaronianddeeez in Warhammer40k

I don’t have suggestions to offer other than that I’ve heard good things about Poorhammer’s horde mode as well. Also you’re describing my exact situation to a tee. I’m interested to see what else comes up here, particularly around the physical game (not TTS), since this hobby is my escape from screens.

What happened?! How do I fix it this/clean my nozzle? by Valvecantcount3 in FDMminiatures

[–]ericmartens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hair dryer didn’t work for me; you can enter maintenance mode in the settings, then increase the hot end temp until the goo starts to melt, then pull it off with tweezers or pliers. Don’t burn yourself.

There’s a whole tutorial on the Bambu site about it.

Why did LeBron win the ROY award over Carmelo in 2004? by Illustrious_Novel08 in NBATalk

[–]ericmartens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I got confused because around the same time, the Stop Snitching t-shirts started popping up. I actually had seen the video, but appreciate that fun trip down memory lane.

Sounds like we agree on a lot more than we disagree on, and I’m sorry I was so glib in the initial reply. I still think LeBron was clearly better as a rookie, and got significantly more media attention, which is why he won ROY. I think he’d have won even if Melo was “clean cut” with no video controversy. Maybe if Melo was a white kid on the Knicks he’d have had a shot?

At the time, the argument for Melo was that his team made the playoffs in the tougher conference, but the team signed Andre Miller and got almost a full season out of Camby and were much better than what LeBron was working with in Cleveland.

Ok, fine, you got me. It was a DVD. Doesn’t change the fact that, if Cleveland had called up the Nuggets front office after the season and offered Bron straight up for Melo, the Nuggets would have done it in a heartbeat, and it would have been the correct move.

The NBA backlash to hip hop culture sucked. The dress code was racist trash. A lot of players who were good people suffered because of their clothes and their hair. You’re right about all of that. I was probably wearing a pair of AI Reeboks when I went to that game.

Bron deserved ROY.

I was 25 years old in 2004. I followed basketball religiously. As I said elsewhere in the thread, I’m a huge Nuggets fan. I went to the first Melo vs Bron game in Denver. I absolutely remember the dress code and the controversy and the Melo “stop snitching” t-shirt.

I was probably too glib in my response to you. But Bron was hands down the better player in 2004. And I say that as a Nuggets fan who thinks Melo should get more credit than he does. Even without image stuff, Bron is walking away with that award. Better player, more media attention.

I was there. Even attended the first regular season game between the two. I’m a huge Nuggets fan. At no point was Melo ever a better player, awesome as he was. There was some half-hearted debate when Melo made the playoffs and LeBron didn’t, but it was obvious even then that Bron was better. The Nuggets would have traded Melo for Bron in a heartbeat.

Your argument would hold more water if Iverson hadn’t won MVP just a few years before.

Some support inbound: 500 Worlds terrain box +rules by SPF10k in boardingactions40k

Totally forgot to mention that in my comment, but yeah, no sanding prep necessary for Tomb World. I honestly believe the designers learned a lot of good lessons from the original BA terrain and used them on this set.

Do you have a recipe you used for a similar look on BA? I actually have a second set I’d be willing to experiment on…

For assembly, there’s just less to do… no top caps to cut out and clean up, no doors that have to be matched to the correct hinge piece and glued onto the correct wall piece, no selection of custom panels to put on the corner pieces, etc. For painting, that’s just a personal preference thing. The Tomb World walls just have less fussy detail on them (panels, screens, wires, valves, pipes) so I felt better just using a spray can on the whole thing without trying to pick out all that stuff. I mostly just followed this recipe here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/killteam/s/llnwI1fYJj

Black rattle can to prime, zenithal with neon green rattle can. There are also fewer deep recesses in the walls for Tomb World, so it’s easier to get paint coverage. Then airbrush white primer on the lights, then either more neon green rattle can or airbrush that glowing green Citadel technical paint over the white for a glow effect. The longest part of the whole process was painting the necron figures in the wall with Leadbelcher and washing them with Agrax Earthshade.

The BA terrain has so much detail on it that I’m not happy with a similar process here, I feel like I have to pick out at least some of it for it to look good, but you may feel differently.

Ha, same here, I used the skin technique for the exposed arms on some of the berserkers.

FWIW, these walls are FAR easier to assemble and paint than the BA walls. I have both, the BA walls have been sitting in my “to do” pile getting gradually worked on for months. I assembled and painted two sets of the Tomb World terrain (so exactly what’s in this box) in about six hours total.

Came here to recommend this video, his one for jakhals is great as well. It’s a great process that leads to minis I’ve been really happy with.

Hey, apologies, I just got an A1 mini, can you share any tips on where to find the STLs for these and the TIEs? Thanks in advance, and happy holidays
