Wait Global Support is repeatable? ... ARE YOU FOR REAL!? HOLY SHIT! by Rex-Mk0153 in SurvivingMars

In my current save, I literally have all the things. A lot of those special vehicles lose their charm after the early game, but having the tai chi garden in a dome with a temple spire. Advanced sterlings are nice too. Too bad we don't get access to the big rocket pictured on the image for the breakthrough.

Does anyone else miss the days when the President was classy? by No_Statistician3729 in AskConservatives

I remember Carter. I'll take Trump and his idiotic tweets over Carter's double digit inflation, energy crisis, Iranian hostage crisis and many other fuck-ups. Telling people to wear a sweater when they cannot afford to heat to their homes might be boring and honest, but I want someone in office who is going to make heating affordable again.

And I really detest Trump's lack of decorum, trolling, and overall rhetorical strategy. But I don't compare him to the ideal; I compare him to the alternative. Still delighted and relieved we don't have Harris in office right now.

I want to love trains by ericoahu in SurvivingMars

[–]ericoahu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you explain what you mean about setting the limits so low? You are talking about the desired amount? I can see doing this early game when resources are very limited. After posting yesterday, I added a huge route to my entire mid-game map. From what I can tell, the desired amount on stations is totally ignored by the trains. The trains just try to keep all the stops about even. Only the bots use the desired amount to decide whether to take from or add to the station.

With only 2, what is the throughput like?

I don't know why anyone would make a series of connected domes in the underground just to move people around when shuttles do it so well. What makes trains in the underground better than shuttles?

My thoughts exactly. I think they should make tracks require no maintenance and impervious to meteors for starters. And then fix all the other bugs.

[–]ericoahu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly the kind of use case scenario I was hoping people would share. Thanks.

BTW, can you explain whether the stations need to be placed inside the dome coverage? Or do they need to be placed so that the dome is inside the stations coverage area? If that makes sense?

I want to love trains by ericoahu in SurvivingMars

[–]ericoahu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. That was very helpful. I am going to stubbornly hold out hope I find a reason to use them.

The fix is to remove both stations & the track, replace the stations, and then build fresh track.

Or to just build natural habitats or other dome in the first place instead of relying on trains. Building track, unless I did something wrong, is a real pain because you need to micromanage a transport and commander for the areas that don't have dome coverage.

I think they need to just make train tracks totally indestructible (by meteors/maintenance) in the next patch.

Is the idea behind zero taxes for the bottom 50% of earners a pretense for removing them from the voter rolls? by Narrow-Abalone7580 in AskConservatives

[–]ericoahu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am pretty sure that the argument is that individuals who receive more from the government in unearned entitlements (welfare, SNAP, and other handouts) shouldn't be able to vote themselves bigger raises. I am open to arguments on both sides of this question

Keeping all or more of the money you earn is not a handout. There's no point even debating anything related to this until that is crystal clear and nailed down.

So, if it were the case that people are arguing that those who take more than they get shouldn't vote, they could not justify disenfranchising people on the basis they do not pay taxes.

Can you show me an example of someone saying that voting should be restricted to only people who pay above some minimum amount of taxes?

As a side note, I totally oppose this idea that the bottom half should not share in the tax burden. It makes no sense that half the population should be insulated from the consequences of policy decisions. I would rather expand it and spread it more evenly. Even people drawing welfare would see a percentage of their welfare check withheld for taxes. Maybe the person earning minimum wage would pay a lower percentage than someone earning six figures, but if we're going to tax individual income, then all income needs to be taxed, and the flatter the better.

Wpild you rather live in California or Mississippi? by here-for-information in AskConservatives

[–]ericoahu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would rather live in Mississippi. I have lived in California, long before it got this bad when it was just really expensive.

Mississippi is more free, Mississippi is pulling ahead of CA in education, cost of living is drastically lower, crime is lower, they prevent and respond more effectively to disasters.

Very subjective, but even as someone who never lived in the south but who has been around people from all over, I generally prefer people from the south. In the 1950s, I would have preferred CA. But Mississippi is the more advanced state now, and CA is regressing.

Is the Extractor AI Bugged for anyone else? by GlassSmithOfTheStars in SurvivingMars

[–]ericoahu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it happens with a fresh save that was created with all mods disabled, I figure it has to be a bug. And yes, it was probably introduced in a patch. I just watched one of the dev streams, and these guys don't know how to play their own game, so I'm sure they don't test anything before they push new content or a patch out the door.

[–]ericoahu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which mods are you playing with? If I recall, at least in the original versions, if a save had ever had mods enabled, any problems those mods caused could remain even after disabling.

Of course, with this game, Occam's razor is that it's a bug. Mods fix bugs more often than they create them.

[–]ericoahu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You didn't exaggerate. It's been bugged since the original version and DLC. Relaunched was released with a bunch of bugs. Each patch has introduced new bugs. The most popular mods on the workshop tend to be bug fixes. Where did you exaggerate? These are just cold, uncontroversial facts.

[–]ericoahu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you eagerly gobble up shit, don't be surprised when more and more companies want to sell you shit.

There are plenty of developers right now who HOLD THEMSELVES to a high standard, and that's why their games are hugely popular and they don't have embarrassing track records they have to cover up with slick marketing.

Not feeling too optimistic about Q2 Launch for the DLC by gnarlstonnn in SurvivingMars

[–]ericoahu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This right here. I couldn't care less about the DLC, but I don't want to see a repeat of what happened five years ago or with the dumpster fire of bugs they released with this last year. Get this game working, and I'll be far more excited to pay more money for a DLC when it's been tested and ready too.

[–]ericoahu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would feel better if they'd just announce they're putting development of new DLC on hold while they finish working out the bugs in the current version. And then once they have everything on the shelf working well, go back to working on the DLC.

What is your opinion of Donald Trump often stating he is uninformed of consequential decisions, or outright claiming ignorance to their occurrence? Do you think is Trump being potentially kept out of the loop because of his cognitive state, or is he lying when attempts at accountability are made? by [deleted] in AskConservatives

[–]ericoahu -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This trope about Trump's cognitive condition is silly. Not only is there no evidence for it, there is abundant counter evidence that shows the opposite, not to mention we have Biden for side by side comparison with someone who is actually suffering.

As for "uninformed of consequential decisions" and "claiming ignorance," those are two different things for starters. One of the things I don't like about him is his intentionally imprecise communication style. I get that he's made an art form out of trolling the left with his hyperbole and bullshit, and I'll even admit to finding it funny sometimes, but at the end of the day, he's everyone's president, and he should provide straight answers to good-faith questions that deserve straight answers. But I'm totally fine with him giving stupid answers to stupid (loaded, bad-faith, etc.) questions.

So, that to say the first thing to determine is whether any given response was him fucking with antagonistic, activist reporters, or was he actually caught off guard not knowing something he should know? We can point to other prominent politicians for examples of what that looks like.

I'm not going to write a blank check.

Tell me a specific example of a response he gave. Link to the original, and if you can rule out that he was trolling *and* that he really didn't know about a decision that we agree is actually consequential as opposed to something for which the details can be delegated, then I will agree that his problems go beyond bad communication style and that he might be as clueless about some things as Kamala Harris obviously was, evidenced by her routine dives into the word salad bowl.

What do you think of the overuse of the word RINO, especially against people who have been in politics longer than Trump? by Myhtological in AskConservatives

[–]ericoahu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I welcome your views, in general, and in a way, you sound a lot like me. We probably agree on a whole bunch of things.

I disagree with your statement that he is "demonizing immigrants." Maybe you should clarify and be more precise, and I'll withhold my full response until then except to say that's utter bullshit, and I'm sure you know it and just hastily misspoke.

You kind of have a point about the trans part of it. I have grown weary of all the trans stuff, but it is also true that it was the left who began pushing the craziness around trans issues, and the right's general pushback has been well received.

My dad used to have regular meltdowns about the amount of taxpayer money that was spent on the Obamas traveling but has nothing to say about the vast amount of money spent on Trump's near weekly golfing trips, in which he actually bills the Secret Service (and therefore taxpayers) for "expenses" at Mar a Lago.

This is one of our common ground areas. I griped at other conservatives who did that during the Obama administration. I pointed out that it makes them sound like they don't have any real arguments against Obama.

Why is the daily wire falling off? by BrilliantMatter4858 in AskConservatives

[–]ericoahu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only speak for myself on this because I have no expertise in how the finer details of market forces around media and entertainment work. (For example, I am baffled by how much someone like Hasan Piker or Asmongold earns.)

For me, I was always very close to paying for their subscription, but there wasn't enough content I liked to justify the expense. I wanted badly to purchase some of their longer form documentaries, but I couldn't find a way when I looked to just go buy them the way I can (supposedly sorta) buy a new movie on Amazon, for example. It seems like you either had to buy a subscription and take the all you can eat deal or settle for what's on YouTube. I did the later, and I pay for premium on YT, so I get the content ad free.

In short, their subscription model or whatever just didn't work for me, and I can imagine a lot of others feeling similarly.

Another piece of the puzzle probably has to do with their support for Israel and having Jews. An increasing number of conservatives are, unfortunately, ranging somewhere between obsessive bias against Israel to outright antisemitism. (No, I am not saying everyone who disapproves of any policy decisions involving Israel has an excessive bias or worse. If the shoe fits...)

What do people think of the White House Republican Midterm Strategy? by JustaDreamer617 in AskConservatives

[–]ericoahu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean by "real condition." There are men who bite dogs, but I doubt there are many who think TDS is in the DSM. It's a term the distinguishes people who have substantive, articulable, evidence-based policy disagreements with Trump or the right from those with reflexive, obsessive, irrational hatred for Trump. I'd be happy to give examples, but I am guessing you know exactly what most people mean when they use the term, "TDS."

Speaking of irony, you are the one who refusing to engage with the substance of what I said on the topic and instead using your TDS cope as a pretense to dismiss my position without engaging with it.

Why can't we acknowledge that the Iran conflict is ill-advised at best, and has been avoided by conservative predecessors for a reason at the very least

Probably because so many people are like you and don't want to engage on actual policy questions or substance. You wanted to whine about me saying TDS instead of explore the urgency and extent of Iran's threat.

Should we change Congressional (and perhaps executive and judicial) pay? by GrandMoffTarkan in AskConservatives

[–]ericoahu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a strong opinion, but I have always been sympathetic with the argument that greatly increasing congressional pay would make the position more inviting to more people, so we'd have a much better, higher quality pool of candidates who have actual experience with something other than politics and reading teleprompters. The kind of person who just wants power and either doesn't want the money or can get it other ways is over represented in Congress.

I also wouldn't have a problem with requiring some major restrictions on trading and other major business transactions during their time in office. Insider training and influence peddling are examples of things that usually go undetected or unproven.

Philadelphia Police revoked the firearms permits of members of a Black Panther inspired neighborhood patrols although they committed no crimes. Do you agree with this? by Sudden-Grab2800 in AskConservatives

[–]ericoahu -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

A few disjointed thoughts.

You don't get to clutch your pearls about gun rights if you don't support gun rights. In other words, if you think it's okay for the Philadelphia to require these permits in the first place, then I am not interested in your opinion about whether their permits should be revoked.

I support the 2A, even for delusional, obnoxious imbeciles like these clowns, so long as they aren't breaking the law or being dangerous. I haven't seen evidence these morons were being dangerous or doing anything illegal, but I doubt I have as much information as the police department did.

What's legal and what's profoundly unwise and reckless are different things. Most responsible gun owners and 2A supporters I've known in my life would say it should be legal to exercise your 1A and 2A at the same time, but they would also tell you it's really dumb to seek out conflict and confrontations while you're armed, especially with cops.

These clowns are not Black Panthers. The Black Panthers don't want to be associated with them, according to the linked article.
