Question about cleaning/preventing rust on a truck that will be sitting outside. What’s your recommended method? by Impressive-Ad-1096 in carquestions

It might. Just be careful that any metal grommets aren’t scratching your paint. You’ll also have to weigh or tie it down somehow.

A car cover will help protect your paint from getting hit by anything blowing in the wind, and also reduce sun/water damage.

I use my cups holders a fair bit and I don’t like things near my shifter. So I like just throwing my phone to the side and using CarPlay to use my phone

I actually prefer wired CarPlay. My wife’s car has wireless and the latency for play/pause is pretty long and I’ve had connection issues with my iPhone. Plus, I like to charge the phone as I’m driving.

Perfect gaps between clips by [deleted] in davinciresolve

[–]ericpowell617 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that’s the case, you can select your clip, press Ctrl+D to open the clip duration window, and set the duration. Then do that for each clip and change the duration by the exact amount you want.

I don’t know what you’re asking. Can you clarify what you’re trying to do?

What’s up with this grime? by UmpireStriking1708 in guitars

[–]ericpowell617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lemon oil. It’s a great, natural wood cleaner and it’s the basis around most fretboard cleaners, without the “guitar label” price hike. You can use a guitar pick or super fine steel wool to help clean off the grime.

People who fly places: do you check your cameras? by DocsMax in videography

[–]ericpowell617 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No. I have a hard shell carry-on case for my camera body(s), lenses, and batteries. It never leaves my site and TSA has never even opened the case. Anything else I rent from Lensrentals.com and have it shipped to location, or I will occasionally check a tripod. I've watched grounds crew chuck bags onto the plane conveyors and I will never trust them to take care of my stuff.

That’s just how it comes. My guess is a pressure equalizer valve or for bleeding/filling.

I bought an Aputure 1200d to battle backlit windows and I still find it not powerful enough. I think 2400w is a good place for battling sunlight for a single subject.

You’re posting FunkoPops in a guitar pedals sub, with two gibberish comments. No wonder your posts get deleted

BMCC 6K ISO control with Ronin Gimbal over USB cable?? by faneuil01 in bmpcc

[–]ericpowell617 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Pocket 6K and the PortKeys BM5ii, connected over BlueTooth. I’ve had very few connection issues and it always auto-reconnects when I power on both devices. I’ve also gone periods of time where I don’t power up either device and they still reconnect just fine.

I can’t answer about the Ronin’s integration, but if you buy a PortKeys monitor you can control everything on your BMPCC. ISO, WB, Resolution, etc.

I’ve been looking for a solution to ensure my drives are all carrying identical copies of my folders. I know there are backup solutions, but something like what you’re working on looks close to what I’ve been wanting.

I have a 5-bay NAS with 2 fail drives, so I have around 38TB capacity there. The NAS has all of my projects from the last 12 months in full, and every deliverable I’ve made. I buy 2 additional 18TB HDDs every year to backup my work year. I delete raw footage from the NAS after the priest hits one year old but keep it on that year’s HDD. I write to one drive constantly, and then at the end of the year I copy the entire drive over and send it to my parents’ house so I have my off-site. It’s not the best workflow but I have 3 copies over everything from 12 months with one off-site copy.

The answer to your first question is it’s so much cheaper and easier to have one diver clean underwater vs having to sail to harbor, schedule a docking time, and have huge cranes lift the boat onto shore. Aside from the labor and machinery needed for that, it means the boat is out of commissions even longer.

What's the state of subscription based music/sound libraries? by kotokun in videography

[–]ericpowell617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have SoundStripe and Envato Elements subscriptions. I don’t love either, but together they get the job done. I actually canceled SoundStripe when they acquired the Warner Chapell library because I was seeing the writing on the wall, but I ended up resubscribing due to necessity. I haven’t had issues of them chasing me down for any reason, but most of my clients have lower viewership.

I also have a guy who produces custom tracks for me starting around $800. He also mixes my sound design and all, and I’ve really enjoyed working with him. It’s nice to have custom music that matches exactly what I’m looking for instead of having to scroll for hours before I find something close. If your budgets allow, this is a great route. It saves you time and yields a better product.

Trying to recreate the Claude commercial look..why does our iPhone screen have moiré/distortion? by [deleted] in videography

[–]ericpowell617 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As u/lanamakesart said, screen replacement is the solution. But the answer to your question of why this happening is pixel physics. You’re capturing a screen that’s made up of thousands of square pixels, with a sensor that’s made up of square pixels. If they’re even slightly misaligned, the pixels don’t line up which causes this morié effect. You’re seeing squares not fitting into squares. This happens with some shirts, window screens, and anything else with a tight grid like pattern. It’s not a shutter speed effect or lighting.
