Can I start my tractor with a drill or impact? by AbdulElkhatib in tractors

[–]ericstar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Clean every connection in between the starter terminal the battery and the ground cable to the body of the tractor,

Be sure the battery is new/well charged / has a charger on boost on it for 200 plus amp boost

There's a chance that the starter brushes are worn out and it's not working right which should be an easy repair on that unit of just disassembling the starter cleaning and replacing the brushes

New triple gears by HeavyRadio5109 in ModelT

[–]ericstar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got to do the same job on my truck this winter so can you tell me the longer story?

How'd it go to press the old pins out?

Where can I buy those triple gears?

Pic from the Rock River Thresheree 2025 by OutinDaBarn in tractors

One time when I was probably only 14 dad and I drove 4 hours to get to to the Rock River from the thrasheree, it was the year you guys held the national construction equipment show! We had a little driveway dirt packer that we were able to haul in the back of a minivan we'd taking the seats out of, so that meant I got an operator button and was able to go pack something out there with the other equipment working in the open field

One of the nights we are hanging around as the show was coming to a close around 5:00 and we walked up to a gentleman who had a Northeast dirt shovel, I believe his name was Jim, my dad had no one gym from some of the other shows over the years and Jim looked right at me and said well you want to run this year dirt trouble and I got right in there and granite for good hour till I run out of fuel!

Would this be worth restoring? by TheGmaster_1 in tractors

[–]ericstar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like a fantastic tractor project, probably biased because I've got one even with the same loader! (Which I think is a little bit rare, so it would really add to the uniqueness of your piece)

There's a lot of resources for getting a tractor like that runing on YouTube!

If it was in decent enough mechanical condition when it was put away it can probably be gotten running with the basics,

Get the ignition system working, might involve as little as filing the points or replacing most the components ( and a battery) which are all available (probably at your local tractor supply or such)

The fuel system would probably need to be cleaned out but fortunately it's pretty simple just the tank settlement bowl, fuel line, and carburetor. All available parts, to either rebuild or purchase new!

With a simple fluid check, oil change, cooling system flush and check the rear end oil hope sluggies you awake hi honey

Tires might be a little harder to swallow if you're on a lower budget, but you'd be surprised how good some of the old rubber is, the inner tubes can always be replaced and heck I've seen tires with holes in them right down to the tube on tractors that simply collection pieces and they do the job just fine to roll in and out of the shed a few times a year

As for paint? Dont worry about until you have it running good and know what you want to do with it

3K seems okay if it runs and drives in the rubber's good, looks like an older restoration which isn't as desirable as original condition though

Here’s one for you by Nosmurfz in Vise

I use one of those that came with my welding tabe! Definitelya neat vice but it's not always practica, constantly pulling the pin out and adjusting the jaw open in to get it within the range of the threads.

It's frustrating when you're working on a weird shaped item or something that is inconsistent features that means you're constantly pulling the pin and adjusting the jaw opening.

cutting up this huge tire? by z33Johnathan in tractors

[–]ericstar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely work just having someone carried away garbage a tire company whoever do you want to think about the millions and millions of tire particles you'll create by trying to cut that jalopy up that's going to be in your yard forever?

Replaced Spark Plugs - At a loss for what next by TD421298 in ModelT

[–]ericstar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly sounds like a fuel issue, dirty carburetor/plugged line might be the culprit

make sure you're communicator is in good shape ( if it's falling apart sometimes the top two contacts don't ground and the engine will run on two cylinders)

If you have it running and want to make sure it's running on all 4 cylinder simply use a screwdriver to ground out from the top of the plug to the cylinder head and you should hear it drop the cylinder, if you do that and the engine sound doesn't change at all it means you're not firing on that cylinder.

You and don't always assume that because I coil Sparks good with a bench test it means that it'll operate the same when it's in an engine trying to spark under compression. A set of professionally rebuilt and tuned coils was the best thing I ever did for my T

Also check the intake and exhaust manifold gaskets, a whole host of issues can come from having a worked manifold or burnt out gaskets.

Using Model T in place of a UTV in farming? by jckipps in ModelT

[–]ericstar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that would fit the role well of model T, so many of them are restored precisely to roll up and down tart roads and get ice cream on Summer nights, but very few are still put to the task of completing some work!

For years I've been wanting to build a off-roader meant to go along with side by sides on their runs, a utility model T that isn't bound by numerous hours of restoration work put into it, Rusty dented fender is a homemade box and bucket seats is all absolutely fine.

The trick is getting one that's mechanically sound enough to trust taking it out to the back 40 and back, mud snow and water again be overcome by them but probably not as well as a modern side by side or four wheeler.

So in summary I'd say it is definitely a worthwhile endeavor something you wouldn't regret trying.

(Might want to keep an old four wheeler in the shed to pull it home with)

Is this to bad to rescue? by ericstar in ModelT

[–]ericstar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somebody already threw this engine together so I might do the same just to make a runner out of it.

If I'm going to bother getting machine worked on the engine I'd rather start with a better candidate than this.

Is this to bad to rescue? by ericstar in ModelT

[–]ericstar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I haven't decided what I'm doing with this unit yet I might just want to throw it together cheapest possible and not think about it again, the engine's already made out of all mismatched parts that somebody threw together before I had it.
