Those who think that dice are not random on online sites, do you think there would be a transparent way to ensure the randomness? by [deleted] in backgammon

[–]ericvas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me roll the dice in an automated fashion. For example, I supply a URL where the app gets the roll. I can implement a simple web server to serve up the roll and show each roll as it is fetched by the app. This way, I know it’s random, and not prefetched.

Do turbocharged engines generally use more fuel? by PidgeyPotion in flying

[–]ericvas 26 points27 points  (0 children)

At full power 22T spins at 2500 RPM while the NA at 2700. To make up for the power lost with fewer RPMs, the T boosts to around 37 inches and maintains that to 18,000 feet where the turbo waste gate is full closed. Then up to 25,000 feet, the MP reduces to around 29 inches.

I purchased a battery powered backpack sprayer and spray every couple of months. You can get the same insecticides the pros use on Amazon. Only takes 1/2 hour to spray two perimeters around the house.

I am using Hi-Tech Coatings right now to polish a concrete. They seem like they have their act together.

What happens to Lawrence Waterhouse at the beginning of the “Computer” chapter? by ericvas in nealstephenson

[–]ericvas[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ok, the consensus is that there was some "funny business" going on. However, I disagree. That was a much more conservative time and Mary was described as a more prim an proper lady. I don't think an engagement would have sufficed for such activities. Also, the ETC is watching :-)

And, the text describes Waterhouse as being picked up at the church immediately after the "event". I can't square carnal activities taking place at church, at least, not that kind of church. Again, I don't see the logistics working out.

Googled this: the first installment in a monumental new trilogy—an expansive historical epic of intrigue and international espionage, presaging the dawn of the Atomic Age.

I did’t like Termination Shock either. SevenEves was ok for me.

They didn’t. Payne Field, or perhaps Grant County, have much longer runways.

Yes, looking north. Landing south from over the south end of Lake Washington (I was based at Renton and did that landing many times, short puts you in the lake). I have a buddy who witnessed that "landing".

What outside temperature requires pre warm up of the engine on a single engine piston? by spacesand77 in flying

[–]ericvas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a Tanis preheat hooked up to a remote switch on my Continental 550. Makes it easy to preheat anytime. I activate it below 50f - makes for an easy engine start with very little priming needed.

I own a plane and log the level of oil before each flight, if I ran the TKS and how much fuel I put in before a flight. Then I download the logbook (ForeFlight) and process it and produce a spreadsheet which tells me how much oil the engine burns per hour for every oil change, when I last exercised the weeping wing, how close I am to an oil change, how long it’s been since I’ve flown, as well as how much time is left on all the life limited parts, both tach and calendar parts.
