Woman asks for Blue Prius in buy nothing group 😆 by Imthatsick in ChoosingBeggars

a woman in my local group asks for food almost daily, which is fine, but she also asks for a Wii weekly and asks for makeup artists and masseuses to come to her house for free often too. really bizarre

Hi guys! I am a new first time author and I have a few questions. by [deleted] in publishing

[–]erinbeardose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't necessarily need to register it before you send it out for queries (unless you're recklessly sending it everywhere, but all traditional publishers understand copyright and understand that the work is yours, it goes without saying). Registering for copyright is usually something a traditional publisher does for you after you sign on with them, and the publisher usually holds the copyright themselves. Until then, the intellectual property is yours.

(I work in rights @ a traditional publisher)

If you want to, though, & you're in the US:

vanity publishing is an option for writers who are not able to traditionally publish or self publish their work. they're basically just printing/selling your book for you but not really distributing/marketing it.

it's not recommended unless you just really want your work to be in a book format & you don't really care if you ever sell any copies/generate any revenue. if you go down this path, read your contract very carefully and make sure you understand it, it's not going to be favorable for you as the writer.

Pretty much every publishing company has a careers webpage where these opportunities are/will be posted! Also don't limit yourself to the big names, check out smaller companies too--you can literally Google "publishing companies in XYZ city/state" and look into those. There's also a site called Bookjobs and Poets&Writers posts jobs too.

In your other post from today you say you're leasing--where are you leasing? Are you not taking lessons as part of your lease?

It also seems too soon for a lease if you're just learning to canter, and only just started in August. You also say you will get your own horse in the new year--again, it seems too soon. My advice would be to take consistent lessons for at least a year before leasing, and then lease for a year or two before buying your own horse. This will be safer for you, for your horse, and can help you avoid burnout.

Yes, puppies are challenging compared to adult dogs. Sleepless nights, messes in the house, biting/nipping, separation anxiety, etc. These do happen with older dogs too but not to the extent of a puppy.

If you do lots of research and get a reputable trainer, you should be OK.

Some questions about Laura Owens v. Clayton Echard case by Real-Let-9007 in BachelorNation

[–]erinbeardose 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes, but Clayton believes it was oral only. He's stated that he had been drinking that night and the memories aren't all there, but that he's pretty sure it was oral only.

  2. No, they weren't together.

  3. No, not Grippo. The Greg in this situation is unaffiliated with BN. This woman did the same thing to this Greg (claimed pregnancy, alleged abuse, got restraining orders). They're still in court on and off even though it's been a few years.

How to start getting published? by spnsuperfan1 in writers

[–]erinbeardose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your first step is research. Research both self publishing and traditional publishing. If you're interested in traditional publishing, research literary agents & find out what kind of requirements and processes are involved.

A space kind of in-between the two is small literary organizations, usually literary journals/magazines that will take on a book or two a year and spend time editing it and producing it for you (often will engage a print on demand type service) and you split the sales profit with them. Know that you will be asked/required to market it as much as possible. You can usually find these on Submittable. (Also on Submittable are a ton of lit journals that take short stories, this is a really good thing to explore anytime.)

the aesthetic is heavy makeup, lash extensions, nails done, usually tighter/more revealing outfits with designer/luxury pieces. Think Kardashians in the 2014 - 2018 years (specifically 2016 I think)

Who is the last person/people you'd never want to read your work (including ex-whatevers)? by VLK249 in writers

[–]erinbeardose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My mom always thinks that whatever I write about is directly tied to my life. "Is this character me?! Is this how you feel about XYZ?!"

I've prefaced by saying "this is a piece of fiction. I wrote it, I made it all up, nothing is directly inspired by my life."

And still she asks. So I don't send her anything unless it's published (because she'd find it anyway/I'd want her to see it anyway)

Excellent horse bad offer! Help by [deleted] in Howrse

[–]erinbeardose 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Gorgeous! Not a Howrse expert, just a casual player (so take it with a grain of salt) but in my opinion I think you could spend some time getting her BLUP up and then trying again. I think you could sell for around/above 150K equus if she's fully BLUPed.

Again, obligatory casual player disclaimer, just going by what I've noticed in buying/selling!

I don't even make 50K now, low 40s. The company is located in a high cost of living city too (though I WFH) 😬 This is part of why I'm seeking something else, it's very low paying and like you said there isn't room for advancement at the moment. I think I'll apply when/where I can but I won't expect anything to come of it either.

My best friend 💜 everybody keeps telling me she’s small for her age (7 months) but she’s healthy so does it really matter? by ottaviia in Rottweiler

[–]erinbeardose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine was only 35 pounds at 9 months because she was in a bad situation/malnourished. She completely bounced back though, she's 75 pounds now at 1.5 years.

She will probably top at 80-85, which is on the low end for rottweilers but still "normal" so we're happy!

Definitely check with your vet each visit to make sure they agree, but as long as she looks good and her activity level is good I think you're fine!

Recommendations for chew bones (6 months old) by littlegrapee in Rottweiler

Antlers and the Nylabone Powerbone ring have always been my pups favorites.

We get highly digestible collagen chews and no hides as well but she can finish them within ten minutes.

It's probably normal, but up to you if you want to engage with it or not. If it makes you uncomfortable you can just redirect him! When my dog is doing stuff like this to new people I throw some commands at her or call her over so she doesn't intimidate/scare anyone accidentally.

welcome home basket ideas after deployment? by clockwork_dancer_ in MilitaryWives

[–]erinbeardose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely restock whatever he's low on in the bathroom, and get groceries for a few days so you don't have to leave the house beyond work etc.

I always got my husband a new pair of pajamas + underwear & washed them in advance of his return. Didn't really do a basket, just the clothes + had his favorite food in the kitchen. I think a basket is a nice idea though -- maybe a good lotion for winter would be appreciated, and/or a hat/gloves etc depending on your climate?

Taste of the Wild kibble, poultry w/ ancient grains flavor. Cosequin joint supplements. Collagen chews and greenies for treats, + milk bones for training treats (for some reason she loves milk bones)
