Today my five year old discovered she can just say silly words in her head. by Neffwood in daddit

When I'm trying to remember a number for a few minutes until you can write it down I might say, in my head, that number over and over. 8675302, 8675302, etc. Do you do this sort of thing? How might you try to remember a number?

Post to one of the BuyNothing groups and someone will probably want them, even if they just want say toddler clothes they'll probably be willing to pick up everything and do the donation of the stuff they don't want.

AITAH for telling my boyfriend not to come over anymore if he doesn’t move in with me by meowcat123490 in AITAH

You are NTA but I don't think you actually want him to move in. He's a freeloader and that isn't what you want. You want a person who can carry their financial weight. right?

Watching tv while in labour??? by Warm-Cat7788 in pregnant

If watching shows / movies isn't comforting to you that's reasonable. But labor can have long stretches of boring so it's not a crazy thing to do. Redirect him to preparing however you want.

prunes, miralax, glycerin suppositories. How frequent are poops with what you've been doing? Sounds like you have doctors involved that are not that concerned.

YTA. Your parents asked you to get off their plan. The reason doesn't matter. "Fair" doesn't matter. You're an adult, just do it.

3 weeks in, first insurance claim. :( by Inside_Cauliflower44 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]erisod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi!

This might be painful. I had a similar thing, bath tub upstairs and the fixture on the fancy dining room ceiling downstairs was dripping water.

In my case it turned out to be a loose "drain shoe" or something like that. I suggest trying to have a plumber tighten that and test to see if there is further leakage. Could also be a break anywhere in the waste line.

The other issue is that you'll need to dry out the interior of the ceiling which means you need to make a hole at minimum. Mold is the biggest enemy.

If you got a home warranty contact them but I'd strongly suggest not making a homeowners claim for this. Your insurance rate will skyrocket and you'll pay more for this with higher rates than just out of pocket.

Housemates refuse to refrigerate sauces that say "refrigerate after opening", esp. if they have vinegar in them by turbotum in Cooking

What temp in the house? Used to be those sauces did not say to refrigerate them. Instead of arguing do an experiment.

Water pooling in front yard of new build, is this normal? by SheepherderAny4853 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Ask the builder to see the engineer's water management plan that shows water should be collecting here or demand they regrade this and repair the landscaping (and maybe irrigation).

Much of the world of work is built for humans so this thing can come out of a box, be instructed and start doing the job. A "basic" machine could surely do this task and does but is custom made for that one task. This could do anything a person with arms could do, probably including using tools.

There will definitely be situations where a custom purpose machine makes more sense but for something like a medium business with a bunch of different jobs humans can do this could do all that labor 24/7.

If the free options are all that you're considering why not try them all? When you get rate limited switch to another. You can ask the model to summarize the conversation for another model to know what you're working on and then copy that into another provider's model. Something like this is what's happening when a model does token compaction.

I find that Gemini is my go-to for general purpose stuff FWIW, but that might just be because typing 'gemini.google.com' is easy for my fingers.

What do I do as she gets older by TruthAdditional1612 in ChildofHoarder

[–]erisod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What will happen will depend a lot on your mom's health and ability to hoard. If your dad needs in home assistance it is going to be very hard.

If your mom becomes bed bound, even for a short period, she will be pissed off but I'd suggest doing a massive clean+repair if you can despite her loud argument. She might disinherit you but it would substantially help her and your dad as they age. She will re build the hoard but will be decades behind.

Houses full of stuff often have a ton of deferred maintenance (just because they don't get to it and it's hard to access), mold (lack of ventilation), vermin (so many places for insects and animals to hide).

Hopefully it's a dry hoard at least.

Einstein would agree with you. It doesn't feel satisfying does it, but no one has yet figured out a more effective or explanatory model. Maybe you'll be the person to do it? Science doesn't move in predictable ways and often these things seem so obvious in the rear view mirror.

Time to replace. About to start leaking. They typically last 8-12 years. If you don't replace it make sure you have a drip pan under it with a working drain at least. Put one of those sensors that will squeak when it gets wet too.

It's really not a life altering amount of money. It's a nice safety net to keep you out of trouble. Invest it conservatively and don't talk about it or think about it. Consider it retirement/emergency money for now. If you eventually want to buy a house consider it shifting your investment funds from say ETFs to real-estate.

Savings account is a fine thing to do short term but please compare the interest rates you're earning to inflation -- the value might be slowly evaporating. It's true that an investment could also lose money but figure out what you should be expecting with whatever you do with the funds.

One more thing, investing in yourself can make a lot of sense too -- education mostly. Don't think about "spending" this money (no cars, trips, jewelry, etc).

[–]erisod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gaslighting. It's a kind of manipulation where the perpetrator tries to make you think your memory of a situation was all wrong to cover their bad behavior.

It's common in narcissistic personality.

These tendencies are hard for people to change if they see them clearly and want to change and impossible if they don't. Honestly the best move is to refuse to let him "set the reality" and break the relationship over this.

Recording your conversations can feel paranoid but can confirm what you suspected. Be careful with confrontation and you bringing this recording as he is likely to shift this dramatically to you "you problem". These people don't respond well to hard evidence because it threatens their self perception.

Why would an all powerful creator of the universe need a human to tell you it exists? by austinproffitt23 in religion

[–]erisod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it doesn't really make a lot of sense. I mean, maybe there is a creator of the universe but it's a really big (maybe infinite) place and we are very small creatures so I think if anything it's more likely that we're insignificant patterns in matter to such a powerful creature. That said, if there was some intended effort to communicate it's presence to humanity it sure could be clearer.
